RE: Future Football Schedules
Funny they didn’t auction off the unclaimed items in the recent scholarship auction.

Hammer: You have no idea how close this came to happening. .

I heard original list of Auction items that came out was later modified. I was told this by a prominent alumnus who had already placed a bid. The items were not auctioned when word got out of what they were doing.
Heresay, but I consider the source reliable.

Lots of smoke and mirrors within Athletic Dept.

I certainly understand the criticism of this. What did the Athletic Department say was the justification? I can’t even imagine.

Hammer: Exactly. I have discussed with several KSU coaches and they expressed your exact words. It’s motivation , goal setting and respectful of our athletes. Problem is those making decisions act impulsively with NO input from those of us that have been around 50 years plus, attending events. ,donating and interacting with our great student athletes.

When did this happen? Was this a Nielsen decision or a Richmond decision?

Hall of Fame “walls” were installed late Dec of 21. However removal of
HOF plaques , All-Americans, and Endowment Donors was begun in
early fall. Plaques were distributed to locals. Others had to pay shipping if they wanted. Endowment donor wall now exists with many omissions.
We have not returned to MAAC since and likely will never return .
This was all enacted under new AD, Long after Joel departed.

Wow. And I already thought Richmond was doing a piss poor job. Hard to explain this one. The leadership or lack thereof within is astounding. I mean you have to be some kind of stupid to make decisions this bad.

I too was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association that no longer exists. I get calls all the time from students trying to raise money (literally every 2 wks). Yet since Randale has taken over, not one call from the Athletic Dept., not a sniff of them reaching out. I literally don't know of one positive thing he has done since he relocated his office to the MACC.

Danny it’s a s**t show. That’s all I can say. Much worse than we ever expected. We have several endowments and donation streams we are in the process of moving away from Athletic Dept. Obviously we cannot move from KSU ,but we can move to areas like nursing school or fashion school. Athletics won’t get another dime from us or our estate. Worst of
all when we reached out to AD to have a meeting to discuss, all we got was
his underlings. He was too busy tweeting to have a meeting. Shameful .
We have moved on , plenty of worthwhile causes are out there glad to have our donations. KSU office of fundraising simply deplorable when it comes to Athletics. They don’t need donations as long as they play 3 big money football games annually.

RE: Future Football Schedules
According to the copy of the contract obtained by Eleven Warriors, Ohio State will pay Kent State a $1.9 million guarantee for the game in 2026.

Ohio State was previously scheduled to begin a home-and-home series with the Boston College Eagles at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 19, 2026. It appears that the game and/or series has been rescheduled again or will be canceled altogether. The series was not mentioned or listed in the recent release by Ohio State

I would be upset if I know what these were. I can't even visualize anything like what is being described. If it was in the wine-and-cheese lounge then I could care less. Maybe this new idea has some merit.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've always said Kent State should have more of a legacy to our history in football and M & W basketball.

What these items were are described in the follow-up posts.

Disrespectful of the elite student athletes as well as the boosters that give the most. Two groups that should be welcomed with open arms and kept in good graces.

Hammer. Totally agree. Our esteemed student athletes and coaches
were NEVER honored properly. Removal and now placing names on a list on the wall however further degrades their accomplishments.

In addition , Endowment donors formerly on plaques in Blue and Gold trophy room have been shamed also. Most donors don’t give for the recognition but for the good feelings of helping others but it’s all
very distasteful. A new AD on the job one year taking advise or making decisions of this magnitude while the program languishes in mediocrity is especially disturbing.

The recruiting benefits of a Hall of Fame properly honoring the greats from
the past can’t be measured. Ask any of the coaches.

I'm sure a new basketball arena would probably cost closer to 15 given construction costs. not to mention that if we want it in the same location we'd need to tear down the current MACC, plus probably Annex, and some of the Student Center. Of course we'd still have Kent State's age-old problem: more parking spaces. Revenue for a new basketball arena is going to come from somewhere other than football pay days. I guess keep playing Powerball.

It's Stroh Center

RE: Future Football Schedules
Interesting write up.

Quote: According to a press release by Fresno State, the Bulldogs are not scheduled to make a return trip to Kent State. That means the Bulldogs will be delivering a significant payout to bring the Golden Flashes to town without making a future return to play in Ohio.

Fresno State Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Frank Pucher told BarkBoard.com earlier this year, “Our number one scheduling priority is to annually play premier opponents in front of the Red Wave inside Bulldog Stadium. That’s what this program and this fan base deserve ... The reality is, we inherited significant holes in the 2020s which needed to be addressed as best we could and we face very real geographic challenges when you consider the majority of FBS programs are at least two time zones away.
First it seems we’re still getting a nice payday. Secondly, as I was reading it I thought their AD was giving us a compliment until I read on and realized once he says “the reality is” we’re the booby prize and they’re stuck ponying up the money to fill the schedule.

Still getting a nice payday and playing a winnable road OOC game while giving the kids a trip to Cali.

Quote: It will pay Kent State $1.1 million to travel to the San Joaquin Valley on Sept. 23, according to a source familiar with the game contract. But the payments will be spread over two seasons and the Bulldogs, even with the large payment to the Golden Flashes, still will be able to hit a revenue target and bank at least $1 million in guarantees. Fresno State in 2023 is receiving $1.3 million to play at Purdue and $1.1 million to play at Arizona State. It will pay Kent State $800,000 and FCS Eastern Washington $300,000 for games, and also make a $275,000 payment for a 2025 game against Southern, which will bring its famed marching band known as the Human Jukebox to the San Joaquin Valley.

The Bulldogs will net $1,025,000 in game guarantee revenue in 2023. In 2024 it will rake in $1.85 million to play at Michigan and $1.2 million to play UCLA, which it has beaten four times in a row including the past three times when taking a trip to the Rose Bowl.

It will pay Kent State $300,000 and Southern $275,000 in 2024, in addition to playing games against Sacramento State for $350,000 and New Mexico State for $650,000.

Next year might be our last year with Coach Lewis. That's a fairly favorable schedule for a double digit win season. That's assuming they don't pull off an upset of Oklahoma or Georgia this year.

Which of these? What “these” are you referring to? You responded to me and I was only discussing Fresno State. Fresno is usually pretty tough, but it’s not like we’re traveling to Bama, Clemson or Georgia coming off a national title.
