There will be no shortage of star power on the court and in the stands for Sierra Canyon High boys’ basketball games this coming season after the latest transfer, 6-foot-8 Ashton Hardaway, the son of Memphis coach Penny Hardaway, enrolled at the Chatsworth campus, according to a school spokesperson.
Hardaway played for Duncanville (Texas) last season. He’s expected to be one of four sons of NBA players on the team, joining Bronny and Bryce James and Justin Pippen.
A club team of mostly Sierra Canyon players is leaving this week to play exhibition games in London, Paris and Rome that will be televised on ESPN networks. Hardaway, a senior, is expected to be part of the team.
Sierra Canyon is joining the Mission League this coming season. The Mission League, which also includes Harvard-Westlake and Sherman Oaks Dame, will have three of the top 10 teams in Southern California, if not the state.
He's supposedly a high talent. They have a decision to make. Come play for dad - and hear a lot of the same comments that we hear every time Jayden plays. Or go elsewhere and be his own man.
Well, it's been in the news that Penny has been trying to recruit Bronny James. Wonder if this could have been a factor in his son Ashton transferring to Sierra Canyon?

I heard Brony was not as good as you might expect.

They say much better than Jordan's kids. But not a top 25 talent.
Some are already saying Bryce James is going to be the better of the two.
As for Ashton he looks like he has the potential to get taller. He would definitely be a useful post player. He said he lost weight and is trying to build it back as muscle so he seems to show a good work ethic at least.
.
Hardaway is poised to become the fourth son of a famous NBA father on the Sierra Canyon team. Other than Bronny, LeBron James’ younger son Bryce will be a sophomore there, and Justin Pippen, the youngest son of Scottie Pippen, will be a junior.
Hardaway helped Duncanville win its third consecutive UIL (Texas) 6A state championship last season. The Rivals and ESPN four-star prospect is a long, versatile wing who can stretch the floor with his 3-point shot and can play in and out of the post.
He holds offers from USC, SMU, Memphis and Texas Tech among others — and saw his recruitment take off in the past year.
He averaged 10 points, 2.8 boards and shot 40 percent from 3 as a junior and was slated to play a pivotal role had he returned to Duncanville, which brings returns a strong core from its 2021-22 team that finished ranked second in the nation in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 rankings.
That will be in demand at Sierra Canyon, which boasts several Division I prospect in addition to James but must replace recently graduated McDonald's All-American Amari Bailey (UCLA), Ramel Lloyd (Nebraska) and Kijani Wright (USC).
The move marks a return to California, 45 miles north of where he started. He played at Bishop Montgomery in Torrance, Calif. before. transferring to Duncanville for his junior season.
He's fielded buzz since he arrived in high school. SBLive identified him among the top freshmen in southern California during his freshman season at Bishop Montgomery.
Sierra Canyon is set to play ESPN-televised games in Paris and London this month.

Ah man! I missed it. How'd he look?!
Gusrob, I watched the replay. He's a shooter on that team. He only had one bad miss. He will remind of Doneal Mack without the hops. I know Penny wish one of his children had his athleticism.
