Ah Gotcha. Most of the CA articles read like useless gibberish.
First day of Fall practice ended too late for the Commercial Appeal sports writers to get their copy to the printer in Jackson. Ergo no articles on Tiger football today. I really think I am paying too much for the on line subscription.
Media is only allowed out there for the first 2-3 periods to record. Not sure if they watch from inside but didn’t see them after period 3.

#2 Make a prediction about being ranked #80 in the country in a thread about how recruiting is going historically great. Right off the bat, hijack the thread with your usual stupidities
#6 Complain about last year again, in a thread about how recruiting is going historically well the last 3 years.
#9 The ubiquitous Ruin mention...in a thread about how recruiting is going historically well.
#27 Complain about the thread being hijacked, but you still haven't said a word about recruiting in any of your nonsensical posts
Spend the rest of the thread on the usual incoherent stupidities about how the thread is hijacked, except for a couple of other psychos, the entire board is against you, Ruin this, Ruin that, and for bonus points, you take a comment that you aren't bright enough to understand, and decide to add your usual political stupidities to it...
In a thread about how recruiting is at a historical high.
Hard to argue with the above facts, JSW. I would love it if you would just show good faith and not refer to our coach in your usual manner. Can you bring yourself to do that? Also, do a little research on some of our commits and see if you can find anything good to say about any of them. Can’t wait to see your response.

Bert you are one of the best and most informative contributors on this message board. I would love to hear your thoughts about how fall camp is going so far. Have you noticed any players standing out? How does Henigan look? I appreciate all of your contributions to this community and your enthusiasm for Tiger football!
I want to share this message that Kirk Herbstreit retweeted this morning:

Appreciate it. It was one practice and a several of the young cats were introduced to "summers and college football in the south". All the QB's threw nice balls. Asa Martin was running extremely hard. But it's the first practice so things will change every practice.

Because of where I vacationed for 15 years in early 2000s, I saw Kirk and his family periodically. From what little I know of him, Kirk's a solid guy. Nice to everyone. Spent all of his time facilitating experiences for their littles. After meeting him and speaking with him some, I'm a fan.

Calkins and other media are always whining about access, so I'm guessing they have to leave the facilities.

The jury is still out on Silver but the parallels with Pastner are scary so far
Each took over their programs after all-time highs.
Each can recruit really well partly base off momentum from previous program success.
Pastner could never quite get over the hump and quite frankly became a weirder and weirder Far Side character as the years passed and the pressure got to him.
Silver is approaching that same career crossroad this year....
In only 2 seasons you're comparing him to one the most underachieving coaches in Memphis Basketball history. Football and basketball are two different animals. 1st year was a transition year. 2nd year was breaking in a freshman quarterback with alot of new faces. This all during a pandemic. You don't see the results of a coach until his first recruiting class are juniors and seniors. Same thing with Justin Fuente and Mike Norvell.
Exactly!! And the players we have are all in. They want to be here and many could go elsewhere.
Thanks for your posts Bert - much appreciated.
This year RS will either prove the positive and optimistic fans right or alternatively provide more grist for the mill for the negative pessimistic group. Win 8 or more and the negative group will fade into the background until something goes wrong: Win 6 or fewer and the more optimistic fans will perhaps begin to admit they were wrong.
The only sure bet is that negative people will continue to be negative and positive people will continue to be positive and the board will remain a disheartening and divided battleground.
I am in the optimistic group hopeful that RS will succeed, the Tigers will roar and the season will be fun.
God Bless Tigers Everywhere!

I can walk into any cemetery and many graves only tell name, date of birth, and date of death. For those who lived with and around that person, the history is far more detailed, colorful, and unique.

Yes, we went 8-3, the only regular season win against a team over .500 came when we had our miraculous comeback against UCF. All other wins, outside of our stellar bowl performance against conference mate FAU, came against teams with losing records. If that's not reason to celebrate, and pat Ruin on his back, I don't know what is!
Not to mention, according to SP+, we were the 5th luckiest team in the country that year. Remember his other miraculous comeback against the mighty USF Bulls? The game where we had to score 2 TD's in the last 2 minutes to win by a point? Probably not.
Thank you. You saw what I saw. Then I predicted 6 wins and was called every name in the book by the "defenders of the faith" here. What did we have, 6 wins. i even made a bet that i would change my icon to eeyore if i was wrong.
Im predicting 4 this year. I sincerely hope I get to eat a big plate of crow.
the O line was decimated. Think that played a part in 6-6? Brandon Thomas at one point was the leading rusher in FBS, and he got injured. (Major concussion? wasn't the same player after that.)
We couldn't run the ball like we wanted to.
Seth got injured and didn't start all of his games, think he couldn't have helped?
Hawaii pulled out of the bowl game because of Covid 19. As a team, they were demoralized. Every player on that team absolutely despised former head coach and Mike Norvell mentor Todd Graham They would have folded up and died in that bowl game...Memphis could have gone out on a 7-6 high note.
Think that didn't also impact the 6-6 season?
There was a lot we couldn't control last year. Try to remember that.

According to you, Silverfield is the 2nd best coach we have had in the last 48 years. Do you really believe that?

RE: Best Recruiting Class In School History 3 Years In a Row?
Regarding the recruiting class (which is the purpose of this thread),
The measurements of the OL commits seem promising even if the ratings are not. Same goes for DB.
Choosing to focus on HS commits (16) primarily is curious, especially many are lower rated than the past couple of years. I am willing to listen to the theory that recruiting analysis has been stretched with the addition of the transfer portal (and the pandemic) so it is possible that the staff are seeing talent in their summer camps that is being missed or under-rated by the sites. Still, it does raise questions about talent evaluation as Silverfield's 1st foray into the transfer portal was a big swing and miss.
In the past, I wrote about the attrition of Norvell's classes and you can see it with the roster as only 34 players are juniors, seniors, or beyond. And at least 1/3 of them came in last two years. The queue is set-up to really be rocking and rolling the next couple of years if guys like Pounders, Jackson, White, Jones, Coffey, Drake, Taylor, Hamilton can develop into major impact players.

The problem with all recruiting rankings is with the transfer portal if they don’t play right away they want to transfer out. I feel for the coaches now. You develop these players and then when it’s time for them to play they are somewhere else.

The problem with all recruiting rankings is that they are just opinions which don't mean much.
Consider it was the opinion of the San Francisco 49ers that Giovanni Carmazzi was a better option to draft than Tom Brady.
Opinion.

Who was it they played over Brady at Michigan? Brian Griese and Drew Bledsoe ?

Relative not meaningless. You miss on players with rankings in both directions due to many variables but a top ten ranking has value vs 100 ranking. You are talking exceptions rather than generally rankings are good indicators of the direction of the program. Give the staff their due credit.

Agreed - looking at recruiting, RS is looking to build a similar type of team as Cincinnati has. Slightly different approach than MN. Focus is on the guys up front. I believe it will pay dividends. Saw flashes early last year, pre-injuries. We still have a lot of athleticism from the play makers too. And it never hurts to have a Freshman All American at QB! I really believe we’re setting up for another run over the next few years after last year’s setback. Time will tell. It’s a shame there’s knuckleheads on here who want failure and an “I told you so” above Tiger success. I’d say I can’t wait to prove them wrong, but I suppose they’ll simply find something else to gripe about.
