Time and money are very big reasons some of the bells and whistles weren't added, if ODU had a full year to spread this work out there would be money that could have been spent elsewhere, like the cupholders and potentially bathrooms (MEP is NOT cheap). SB Ballard worked around the clock if I remember correctly, 7 days a week. Typical labor standards are Saturdays are time and a half and Sundays/nights are double time. Labor is a HUGE cost that some may not consider when it comes to budgets for large scale construction. The general conditions for SB Ballard must havebeen high as well to be able to have the resources for the team and the job for a project this strenuous and with a very hard deadline, in a very short time. Material costs I beleive were already on the rise, especially steel which is a major part of the stadium construction. SB Ballard delivered on time, probably over budget (speculation, don't want to put that negativity on them if it's not the case!) and the finished product is miles better than old Foreman Field. As a fan there are things I wish they did but I am not going to fault ODU for not putting those in with everything else they got, and with all the obstacles in their way. Now, I would hope at this point that they have put some of these (permanent) amenities in their budgets for the near future, but I don't know the ins and outs of ODU's monetary priorities and oerall university budget.
And for those who don't know what these "trailer" bathrooms are, they are WAY nicer than some of you expect. They are fully furnished, with working AC and/or heat depending on the time of year, have multuple stalls, and a working sink. They also usually have a seperate men's and women's trailer. Google "trailer bathrooms" and you'll see what I'm talking about
Thank you for all that info. I always appreciate it when folks with real knowledge share and explain the realities of what the rest of us are talking about as fans.
If we're going 11-1, fans aren't going to care if they are sitting on thumbtacks and if cupholders are available. They'll be storming the gates to see the on-field product, regardless of stadium amenities.
Exactly! I will hold my own drink and wear depends!!!!!!

Cup holders are nice (I saw a few drinks get kicked over last year) but it does make the row a little narrower for the middle-row guys to shimmy through.

I hope for this reason they never come to the bench seats.

Does anyone have any update about this?
The banners were supposed to be installed years ago.

But there are already multiple banners at the stadium?

I think he's talking about the huge nice banners that went in the giant open spaces between the elevator towers on the west side. They looked really nice in the renderings.

Where can we see said renderings? Or do they still exist?

I would love to see them and agree they would upgrade the look of the stadium a lot. That said, the last I heard they do not have the money for them thanks to no season, COVID crowd downturns, now enrollment drop, etc. I don't remember the numbers but those banners (hurricane resistant etc.) are much more expensive than I thought they would be.

Enrollment drop? Hadn't heard that. And it seems like a little thing, but those banners would make a big difference in the look of the stadium. How expensive can they be? $20-$30k? Those are the little things that make a difference.
