How many people in Nashville/middle Tennessee, other than alumni, would ever follow a Memphis team? I guess the Grizzlies have some statistics on that, but given the traditional snobbery/dislike towards Memphis from the Nashville area I doubt we'll find many new fans over there.
All I know is that up until a few years ago, we never signed players from the area, and now we sign quite a few. The fans may still be snobs, but the recruits sure aren't.

Do we need to play MTSU in order to sign players from only 200 miles away? There are more players in TX, LA, & GA than in middle TN… if you need to play cupcakes to recruit, then keep playing ULM & Georgia State. MTSU is literally a no-win/no-interest game.
Who would you want to play that will play us? Do you even know if we reached out to P5 teams and they turned us down or wouldn’t give us a home game.SMH
Well, since you want to get indignant....Ohio St AND Notre Dame said they'd play Home and Homes with us. RC Johnson in his infinite baffonery, told them we wanted a 2 for 1 series with Memphis getting the two home games...you can figure out the rest
Link? That is what I thought

yep, Vandy passed on the series and doesn't want to play so MTSU it is. Should be a good series.

We’ve recruited Nashville better without playing MTSU than we did in the years we played them.

Middle beats Vandy every time they play. Vandy is BAD. Just because their SEC don't mean anything.
Vandy is 16-3 against MTSU and has won the last four games in the series.

That was because CN was getting players ( Carter and Eze) from buck fitzgerald and the NPA. Buck now sells them to TCU.

They have an OCS! So they will be going to the ACC before us. Doesn't matter that there OCS is dowdy and much less exciting than Liberty Stadium. I increases alumni involvement. If only Memphis administration could go back and be as forward thinking as MTSU.

I heard RC turned down two games with Michigan where they would play both games in Memphis for a solid split of the gate. He did the same thing with Clemson and VAtech . . . you can figure out the rest.

Vandy is 16-3 vs little middle and beat them the last 4 times they played.
But yeah, vandy has ducked us since we beat them 4 outa the last 5 in the 80's
Historically, middle has owned us.
its a weak move, you cant sugar coat this.
Doesn't need sugar-coating.
SEC teams won't come to Memphis.
We need regional OOC games.
Gives the coaches a "free" recruiting trip.
Gives the university exposure to middle TN prospective athletes and students
Never mind the 60 year olds with bias against Memphis - Nashville is booming largely on millennials who may not have that bias.
And like it or not, it's a good road trip.

Didn’t we play Mississippi State here last year? Aren’t Missouri & Arkansas also scheduled to play in Memphis over the next few years?
We do not need to focus on regional SEC like in the past, but we do need 2 quality non-conference games per year.
Playing 1 Sun Belt/CUSA team is ok, but I fall back on my father’s words of wisdom when it comes to scheduling… dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

every OOC game is supposed to be Bama, TN, Ole Miss, Ark, Miss State and all of em should be at home...if not, the sky is falling. (at least to some of our fans)

Unfortunately, it's not going to matter. More people watch Tennessee/Kentucky on the SEC Network, then they watch Memphis on ESPN+ for an 11AM kickoff. The access to watch games on the SEC Network triumphs ESPN+.
People moving into Nashville already have their sport teams. And it's tough falling in love with basketball players nowadays due to the one and done. I always never emotionally attached to Jalen Duren because I always knew he would be a Tiger for 6-8 months. In addition, if a player for the football team performs well, then they're likely to transfer to another college.
As much as I love college athletics, the passion of representing the school, and the passion of the team will start to dwindle over the next few years. That's the toughest part of the whoe new NIL and automatic transfers to me.
In addition, the people in Nashville would much rather drive 3 hours east to Knoxville and spend a weekend in the mountains, than drive 3 hours west to Memphis.
I agreed with what you're thinking, I just it's a tough thing to accomplish. Simply because the opportunities to watch Memphis Tigers athletics just doesn't compare to the SEC schools. Being in the American, obviously, doesn't help.

Exactly the opposite actually. Being the top AAC team overall for the last years has meant that we have had more than our share of weeknight games and the best opportunities. Not being relegated to FS1 or FS2 has given us a big advantage over many Big 12 teams. We get many opportunities to play on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 that Vandy, Arkansas, MSU, Kentucky, and Ole Piss never get.

DITCH THE CUPCAKES.
They lead the series 17-9-1.
They have more conference titles.
And something we don't have.An overall winning records.
4 coaches ago we were one of the worst programs in the nation.
One bad hire and we could end up right back there.
