Don’t forget our upcoming non-conference schedule - plenty of high end opponents coming up (super excited for 23!):

23: Missouri & Boise, both at home
24: at FSU
25: Arkansas at home
26: at Arkansas and at Boise
27: TBD
28: Mississippi State at home, at Arkansas
29: at Mississippi State
30: Boise at home
31: at Boise

I’m hoping we can get another P5 home and home put in there - I personally hope for Ole Miss because of the rivalry and easy road trip. Never want to play UT since they’ve dodged us for this past decade. Which leads to my last point - it takes two to tango, and I understand we’ve been told no far more than has been made public. The home and home + 1 buy game with Arkansas makes sense, and the 1 buy game at Florida State makes sense, but we need to find another P5 willing to do a home and home with us. Easy said, hard to do.

Thank you!! The MTSU game hits a recruiting hot spot for this staff and gives players from that area a chance to see us in person. Remember, Vandy has refused to play us since 1989 and UTK refuses a neutral site game. It also lets our kids from the Nashville area get to play close to home. May not mean a lot to some of our fans, but it’s a selling point to players and families in Middle TN. It’s also less travel costs for our program. Hopefully this takes the place of an FCS school, but I’m fine w this series. Plus we owe them a couple beatings.

I’d be okay with a neutral site against UT, but only if Rick Barnes agrees to return one punt.

Vandy is 16-3 vs little middle and beat them the last 4 times they played.

But yeah, vandy has ducked us since we beat them 4 outa the last 5 in the 80's

Historically, middle has owned us.

its a weak move, you cant sugar coat this.

The other sad part is that MTSU brings less than 5K fans. Poor considering they are close. I appreciate ASU fan support & as such don't mind playing them H/H.

Do we need to play MTSU in order to sign players from only 200 miles away? There are more players in TX, LA, & GA than in middle TN… if you need to play cupcakes to recruit, then keep playing ULM & Georgia State. MTSU is literally a no-win/no-interest game.

Who would you want to play that will play us? Do you even know if we reached out to P5 teams and they turned us down or wouldn’t give us a home game.SMH

Well, since you want to get indignant....Ohio St AND Notre Dame said they'd play Home and Homes with us. RC Johnson in his infinite baffonery, told them we wanted a 2 for 1 series with Memphis getting the two home games...you can figure out the rest

I hate playing Middle, but we do need to find a way to grow our fan base. Nashville has a largely untapped market. Mostly UTay homers and UK wannabes. There is room to gain a fanbase in Nashville. Nashville has a growing market that's somewhere in the 20s nationwide, as far as tv market.

ASU brings more than 5,000? 03-lmfao

We have 28 players from Tennessee on our roster, 18 closer to Murfreesboro than Memphis, and 5 from Arkansas. Many of the players are from less than a 2 hour drive from Murfreesboro. It also (obviously) gives the high school recruits a chance to see us and their older Tiger friends in person.

If we are going to give away home and homes to lesser teams, this is obviously one of the best ones. Your reasoning makes no sense at all.

I'm not going to put MTSU in cupcake category, but the Tigers still need to add more P5 schools. We need a way to get some national attention. It's not a bad home and home but its not great either. For 2023 it is fine.

How many people in Nashville/middle Tennessee, other than alumni, would ever follow a Memphis team? I guess the Grizzlies have some statistics on that, but given the traditional snobbery/dislike towards Memphis from the Nashville area I doubt we'll find many new fans over there.

You make fair points, but should we give up without trying? Nashville is bringing in so many people that old-school Nashville is not NEAR what Nashville is today. Nashville gov officials are still the same. The population is FAR different. Think LA. They're trendy and might follow a National Championship contender in bball just down the road and a football program putting out NFL talent. Worth the effort.
