I guess you should never say NEVER, but.... I don't see the PAC ever inviting BYU. West coast vibe doesn't really jive with morman teachings.

Actually the current PAC schools have a similar disdain for the CA state public schools like SDSU & Fresno St & MWC schools in general because of their academy standing. Put another way, the current PAC schools are enormously wealthy schools of very high academic standing who tolerate athletics (& athletics have to pay their own way). At least historically they (PAC) have had no interest in association with schools of lesser standing. IMO, that philosophy will ultimately carry the day & the PAC will remain at 10 schools if they can't attract any current B12 schools (& hope for an eventual B1G invite). And it's very likely no current B-12 schools would leave for the PAC & miss their big payday when UT/OU leave. But never say never.....

RE: PAC 10
No one in a P5 conference is joining that flaming wreck the Pac-12. No Big 12 school wants any part of that when it is in position to be the #3 conference both athletically as well as financially and possibly academically. They are worse off than the Big 12 was past year without nearly the options. Also, schools aren't going to care about politics like Democrat or Republican, only wacked out and deranged fans feel that way.

Yes. There's no Oregon or Stanford caliber team in the Big 12. I would say the Big 10 would have did more damage to the PAC 12 if they would have taken Oregon and Stanford. USC and UCLA has a nice market though. USC hasn't been USC since Pete Carroll went to the Seahawks. UCLA is what UCLA is. Glad we smacked em up when we played.

RE: PAC 10
The Big10 has said its holding at 16.

The SEC has said its holding at 16.

It appears that the 12 grab for the corner schools failed.

If all three of those are true and hold - then the PAC is solidly higher in the pecking order than the 12 and now has options with better markets over all and collectively more prestigious schools.

SDSU would seem to be a natural add for the PAC and if they hold their nose and take BYU from the 12 they still have a very nice conference.

Other schools might include: Kansas, Oklahoma St, SMU and/or Houston. Maybe they go for security and add four: SDSU, BYU, Oklahoma St and Kansas.

Always hard for normal people to figure out what Californians might do.

RE: PAC 10
No B12 team is moving to the PAC until the $80M exit fee is significantly lowered, which I think happens with the B12’s new TV deal in a couple years. If a B12 team wants to move to PAC they will likely have to wait. My gut feeling is if someone would pay Kansas’ $80M exit fee for them, they would announce joining the PAC today with them beginning play the same year OUT does in SEC.

I think both PAC & B12 sign shorter TV deals this time (5-6 years) for roughly the same $ as each other…..although I am sure some of our former brothers who have recently joined the B12 will be here quickly to inform us their contract will dwarf the PAC & ACC & they will be the centerpiece to a 3rd P3 conference & poach the remaining best teams from PAC & ACC.

Academically or athletically? Athletically, Stanford is ****. 3-9 against a bad conference. Overall, the PAC has been week except for Oregon and they aren’t world beaters.

Yeah, feel like if I could choose to join either conference as they sit now, assuming geographics/philosophies/GOR buyouts/etc., wasn't part of equation, I and I think most others would choose PAC.

When UT and OU left the Big XII lost all its bargaining power.

They have very little to offer other P5 schools.

They only have access to just 2 top 20 TV markets and don't control either of them.

The Texas TV market has been the Big XII only bargaining tool and that has been taken over by the SEC.

Other than P5 status they have nothing to offer.

Even the AAC has a larger TV market.

The new AAC has 2 teams in the Dallas/FtWorth metroplex, one in Houston, one in Philadelphia, one in DC metroplex, one in Miami metroplex and one in Tampa/StPete.

That's 6 of the top 20 TV markets in the US.

No Utah caliber team in Big XII.

Jeez dude, you’re not getting it. The PAC is severely weakened now, losing their 2 biggest draws (the same as the B12). However, the next 2 best programs (Oregon and Washington) are begging to get out. Neither of these 2 programs are that valuable to the B1G now, but with Nike on your side, it’s possible. If Oregon and Washington leave, the PAC will be a group of low draw schools.

The B12 is pretty unified now. Not by desire, but really no one else wants these programs. Their TV contract will be significantly better than a very unstable PAC. Let’s see how the numbers pan out.

Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and ASU has reached out to the B12. No way they would have been remotely interested a month ago, but times have changed. They know the two biggest draws will leave in a heartbeat and they don’t want to get stuck with the rest of that group. It’s each man for himself.

But by your measure, the AAC should get a better TV contract than the B12. That’s laughable. Our TV contact will be awful now. We lost 3 of our best programs and filled them with garbage heap trash. We desperately need to get out of this conference as it stands. It’s just terrible.

I think the PAC 10 could stand pat and still be relevant. Oregon and Utah are strong programs and Washington will bounce back soon. They could add a school or two if needed. The two LA schools leaving is a blow but I think they can survive it.

Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and ASU were being proactive when rumors were flying that Oregon and UW were the next targets of of the B10. Now that everyone is standing pat, for the moment, these schools realize that the new look PAC is better than the new look B12. The remaining collective PAC 10 schools are heads and shoulders above the remaining collective B12 schools when it comes to brand and media value.

The only people laughing about academics are people who read social media and then pretend that they know about the academic side of things. Cincinnati is one of the top research universities in the country and it would place them mid-tier in the AAU and it is one of the upper tier in health and medical and Cincinnati has been listed as a legitimate AAU candidate. Houston the same thing. Obviously you have Iowa State (former AAU but still elite academics) and Kansas but if the Big 12 expands and adds the Four Corners they would add 3 AAU schools and Arizona State is similar to Cincinnati in that they are a legitimate AAU candidate. So that's 4 AAU schools, 1 former AAU school and 3 legitimate AAU candidates. That's not even counting thr private schools and R1 universities. So yes, the Big 12 could be a Top 3 academic conference.
