Kennesaw State to build new sports complex
https://twitter.com/mccrearyradio/status...2292092929

According to Kennesaw State broadcaster "My limited understanding is the current location of the old Brandsmart all the way to Chastain Road has been purchased and there is planning for a sports complex with baseball, softball, and football stadium to be built with bars and restaurants surrounding them."

If true, this could massively speed up their transition as a Conference USA add.

If the 30K stadium is a go, KSU will be FBS soon.

Land is expensive and hard to come by near the KSU campus.

Even KSU agrees with me saying their current soccer/FB field is not good enough. I was saying this months ago when that KSU poster was pimping his school real hard.

Kennesaw would quickly be number 3 in GA. Location is just a better fit than GSU or GaSo. GT has downtown ATL and Ga So is too far from the main population of GA. Plus NW ATL is growing like weeds resistant to roundup.

Hope we're gone before the Owls roost in C-USA.

Well we are devoid of owls as of 2023 so maybe it's KSU to the rescue.

They may need to join the AAC instead in order to be part of the parliament they have going on over there.

KSU may be a candidate for AAC if ATL market is desired.

Who knows the changes could be less than anyone would imagine.

As a GS fan, I'd love to see Kennesaw replace GaState in the Sunbelt (State can go flounder in the AAC). Kennesaw would 100% have better fan support than GaState.

Maybe? There are a lot of factors to consider. No doubt their location is outstanding. They did the commuter thing like GaState for a long time. Unlike GaState, they have a more traditional campus that they could expand upon to get away from some of that commuter stuff (but not all). Combine that with the fact that their football team is also fairly new, their alumni have no allegiance to their sports teams at all. GaState has a similar issue.

I honestly would take ATL out of the equation. ATL does not care much for of any of the local college teams. GT will get the casual walk up attendance, but they're also affiliated with the ACC. Remove that and its a scary sight. Even in these dark times, GS still gets pretty good attendance from travellers from ATL area every home game. I know that sounds contrary to the other stuff I previously said, but the nuance is in the why. Long time tradition and team loyalty drives that crowd. Kennesaw will gain this for sure. GaState not so sure. They're still counting tickets sold for attendance (not that the ncaa enforces that rule)

RE: Kennesaw State to build new sports complex
ATL has how ever many millions of people and quite a few would enjoy college football. Several going to GaSo games is no surprise to me as we have many ourselves.

If KSU becomes a member of any FBS conference the members will all have alumni in ATL to help some with attendance. Just think the location not downtown would increase the chances for youth teams/groups to attendance for those not willing to manage them in the downtown area.

GSU was too late to the game for a downtown college with a limited traditional environment (heck GT struggles). Basketball will be their best sport over time. Their other positive will be if the current trend of living downtown continues to grow but not sure those are college football fans.

RE: Kennesaw State to build new sports complex
As someone that has lived the majority of my life within ~10 miles of KSU, I do not buy them as a FBS candidate.

Adding to that, building a 30k seat stadium for the purpose of moving to FBS in a time when G5 football is growing increasingly irrelevant and the seemingly inevitable split will only greatly exacerbate that seems like setting money on fire.

But if they build it, they make as much or more sense for CUSA as anyone, even if I think it's foolhearted.

I just moved from Kennesaw a few years ago (moved a little ways up I-575). If we're talking football, I'd take Kennesaw St over GaState just because they will always have an easier time attracting the traditional college student. One of my coworkers has a kid who just graduated high school and is about to attend GaState. I asked her if he was going to move downtown into the dorms and she was like "Oh God no! The city is just too much for him. He wouldn't survive". This is the general sentiment of suburban Atlanta. GaState will always have a high number of students with 1 foot in, 1 foot out in regards to the school. As a result they work to get the degree without ever having the desire to show support to athletics. Until they fix that issue, their struggles will continue.

Definitely agree that the G5 is becoming a little watered down (kind of like FCS).

I wouldn't take your anecdotal experience as representative of all or even most students.

According to US News 15% of Georgia State students live on campus while just 12% of KSU students live on campus. And I don't believe the two schools are really that different regarding the "1 foot in, 1 foot out" mentality you mentioned. Granted when I graduated High School(7 miles from KSU and 24 miles from GS) 20 years ago, neither school had football, but neither school was somewhere people went if they were really looking for the "traditional college experience".

I wouldn't trust those numbers at all. There is a difference between living on campus, living off campus, and living at home. On campus, as those numbers suggest, show that only 12-15% of students live in a dorm. I'm in college currently, I spent only 1 semester in the dorms, the past 3 years I've spent living in my university town but off campus, not at home. The difference, and Sam even has quite a few like this, is living at home, students will still live with mom or dad down in Houston and drive up, or for KSU, they live in Marietta, Woodstock, maybe out in Rome, or other places in/around Atlanta and drive in for class. Those survey/poll results only asked if you live on campus, not if you live off-campus but in town not at home out of town.

I'm very familiar with the concept friend, no need to go to such a thorough explanation. It wasn't much different when I attended Middle. I spent one semester in the dorms and rented off campus the rest of my time in Murfreesboro. I certainly wasn't commuting from my folks house in Marietta...

Really the big difference at KSU now versus when I graduated high school 20 years ago is that KSU has so many dorms to offer. My freshman year was the first year Kennesaw had dorms period.

At any rate, what you're talking about applies just as much about GS as it does KSU and I'm not really sure what relevance it has to the conversation regarding a "traditional college experience" and the anecdotal experience of someone's friend's kid not feeling ready to move into the city when enrolling at GS.

feel bad for those students. I have family in Rome and Woodstock, and while i wouldn't want to live in either as a college student, Rome is definitely last.

Ironically Rome has more traditional colleges in it than both Kennesaw and GaState.

Those survey/poll results only asked if you live on campus, not if you live off-campus but in town not at home out of town.

feel bad for those students. I have family in Rome and Woodstock, and while i wouldn't want to live in either as a college student, Rome is definitely last.

Ironically Rome has more traditional colleges in it than both Kennesaw and GaState.

Sure, but we're speaking strictly about division one athletic sponsoring schools.

There are more deer than people on Berry's campus.
