Quote:The Big 12 isn't the only conference undergoing major changes on the back of this deal. Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB, and UTSA would move to the AAC beginning July 1, 2023, as previously settled.

With UCF, Houston & Cincinnati moving from AAC to Big 12 on July 1, 2023, this allows Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB & UTSA to leave C-USA & join AAC on July 1, 2023. The 6 C-USA schools have until Wednesday to officially announce their intention to leave C-USA early.
Charlotte
Quote:"We're thrilled to be joining the American in 2023-24 and are diligently preparing for this transformational opportunity. We look forward to competing in such an outstanding league. We're also grateful to our colleagues at Conference USA and anticipate an exciting final season as members in 2022-23. "
- Mike Hill, Director of Athletics
UTSA
Quote:"Given the news about the agreement the American Athletic Conference came to with Cincinnati, Houston and UCF regarding the departure of those institutions in 2023, our intent is to join the American on July 1, 2023."
- Lisa Campos, UTSA Vice-President for Intercollegiate Athletics
UAB's Official Statement
Quote:UAB has been a proud member of Conference USA since its inception and we look forward to the next step in the evolution of UAB Athletics in The American Athletic Conference. We continue to work towards that transition. Out of respect for both conferences and their member institutions we will comment further at the appropriate time.
FAU
Quote:Florida Athletic University athletics will officially become members of the American Athletic Conference in July of 2023.
Florida Atlantic will formally notify Conference USA of its intention to leave the conference following the 2022-23 academic year.
"We are incredibly excited about our future in the American Athletic Conference," said FAU President John Kelly. "Florida Atlantic has gained national recognition for academic and athletic excellence, and membership in The American will help propel the university to the next level. We look forward to welcoming our new conference rivals and their fans to beautiful Boca Raton."
"Florida Atlantic Athletics has an extremely bright future," FAU Vice President & Director of Athletics Brian White said. "Today, we have more clarity on that future, which is exciting to everyone associated with the Owls. We look forward to our final year in Conference USA, while also continuing our diligent work in preparation to join The American."
Florida Atlantic's men's soccer and men's and women's swimming and diving teams will serve as affiliate members of The American this fall.
The exposure afforded the university through athletics will showcase the university on a national stage. The American's partnership with ESPN's family of networks includes 40 conference-controlled football games and 60 conference-controlled men's basketball games airing on ESPN linear outlets per year.
North Texas
Quote:"We are pleased with the announcement made by Commissioner Aresco and the American Athletic Conference this morning. We appreciate all the hard work behind the scenes by multiple conferences that have laid the groundwork for a smooth transition between so many institutions and look forward to the tremendous opportunity that stands in front of us."
- UNT VP and Director of Athletics, Wren Baker
Rice
Quote:"The agreement reached between the American Athletic Conference and its three departing members allows us to formally begin the process of joining the American in the near future. We remain proud members of Conference USA for the 2022-23 academic year, and anticipate releasing more information on our transition to the American in the near future."
- Joel Kargaard, Director of Athletics

I am not liking the formality and politeness of UAB's statement. I get that CUSA kept us when Watts gutted the football (and bowling and rifle) but damn, don't play us like that. Release a real statement so we don't stress or have PTSD.

We're leaving. No need to grandstand. The BOT has no hand in this one.

No, but the UAB statement was the weakest of the six...by far.

It is so mild. I'm hoping the marketing team releases a great video like they always do during the "appropriate time".

It would be kinda awkward to make a big hype statement and video about joining the AAC when we're announcing going with Memphis to the Big 12+2 at the same time

I actually thought the UAB response was the most appropriate and professional response of the six statements. Not understanding the weak rhetoric at all. Do we really need to gaslight something so simple as this?

Yes, UAB does not play it’s hand. Charlotte looks like they want to stay.

I think given our history our response was totally appropriate.

When do we officially become liable for AAC exit fees (for our move to the ACC)?
