RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
So to sum things up, what most of us never thought would actually happen didn’t happen. Time to move along, but just to have a little fun with it….

Dear Memphis Memorial Stadium,

RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
any idea how much the naming rights will increase annually, with this amount of renovations?

I would suspect it to be a substantial increase in revenue for the city

with the University picking up the majority of the renovation costs

someone smarter than me please explain this logic?

Quote:from the naming rights press release:
In addition, the parties also agree if the City or the facility operator does major renovations to the stadium during the deal, it must keep Simmons updated on potential renovation plans and renovation status if underway.

OPINION NEUTRAL QUESTION

What is the current state of the ADA stuff at the stadium?

Is that all settled or will this stir up some crap for some of the facilities we will try to keep?

Sorry for the hijack.

There was a thread on this in the College Sports and Conference Realignment board.

That made our challenges come to mind.

Certainly need more transparency on the naming rights.
I was disappointed in the initial amount.
And who got the money?
Put another way...Which entity provides the most value to the stadium from a naming rights perspective - the city or the university?

The city gets the naming rights $ under the current deal.

I thought $1 Million per year was a lofty, but realistic goal.

In the end I thought the deal they got from Simmons was fair. There were some folks on this board who claimed it would be impossible to sell naming rights to the LB for any amount of money.

Yeah, I was pretty sure the city got all the $.
But where does the value come from? Largely, it comes from the Simmons brand mentions provided by broadcasts of Memphis Tigers games.
The city will tell you, yeah but we need it to offset operating expenses of the stadium.
There's another argument to be made there, but I'd just be rambling at that point...

Ramble on! The amount of money given away by not having our own stadium is staggering. When you run that back 100 years - it is mind blowing.

Had they started saving in 1912 we might have enough money by now. At least we have all those overly effeminate Tigers around town. They are so ferocious looking!
