All sorts of schmucks exist in this world. One of the biggest ones is in this thread.

I invite you to share with the group ANY copy of a campus master plan that has ever designated a site for an on campus stadium. I've followed the plans for years via this board. I assure you, it was never planned, and that was not an oversight.

The people with the money have NEVER wanted to pay for an OCS. Except for Harold Byrd that one time. I don’t get what your point is.

They are all nice places. Doesn’t change the fact that the city and county waste taxpayer money when they’re involved. Why do you think they are so aggrieved with Ford building in Haywood/ Fayette/ Tipton?

It was never in the master plan & its never been seriously considered. Rudd passed this 01-rivals sandwich onto Hardgrave & then went on his sabbatical.

And why do you think that is? Here's a hint: The University can't fund it.

If I had to guess, the majority of the of the LB renovations will be funded by tax dollars, with some private donations made.

If it was an OCS, it would be twice the cost and would likely need to be paid for by private donations, which the University can't get. Not enough big $$$ boosters around willing to do it. Not to mention the obstacles involved with acquiring land and finding parking all that.

Embrace what we're getting, not what you wish we'd get.

Wow. This was 2007.

It is noted in the article that the reason the OCS wasn't considered is that they wanted to use the Liberty Bowl as the centerpiece for a Fairgrounds redevelopment project. Here we are in 2022 and we're still waiting on an entirely different Fairgrounds redevelopment project to actually materialize.

Same old ...

It's a great question. Probably a big reason why the Houston's and Cincinnati's of the world have passed us by.

Our lack of $$$ issues will be exacerbated in this new NIL world, especially in football.

I wonder how much of that money came from their city governments and how much control their Mayors have of those facilities?

In fairness, UCF announced a $130 million expansion plan a month before the invite.

As some of us thought, they already know where a good chunk of the money is coming from. They're not flying by the seat of their pants.

The land acquisition was clearly the main hurdle for an OCS - both time wise and $$ wise.

What acquisition? Tear down a track and 4 ancient dorms and you have the land for an OCS.

Let’s compare Cincinnati as a whole and I mean everything to the city of Memphis and you will see why they got in over us. Here’s a hint the stadium was way way down the list

Any added parking can be used by the students and staff. That's a bonus.

Added food facilities could be dual use as well especially if they designed in some access tunnels for food to travel from the kitchens to the stadium.

Not to mention they could include facilities to house the marching band equipment and some practice facilities.

An ampitheather stage on one end looking out over a mall or tiered area where the various arts could stage outdoor performances for students during the semesters and for fans on game days.

It could be SO MUCH MORE than a stadium if they had any imagination and backbone.

I was surprised to see students in small groups studying or just hanging out in the Cincinnati stadium. You are walking along the campus and suddenly you are in the stadium.

It could be SO MUCH MORE than a stadium if they had any imagination and backbone.

And an extra $600 million lying around, based on all these upgrades you are proposing...
If you were offering additional facilities you might attract new sources of funding that would never be interested or available for just a stadium.
