Maybe they should switch from horizontal to vertical divisions.
From an SEC thread, discovered a way where it may be possible to do most of these divisionless proposals WHILE eliminating the possibility of 3 Undefeateds.
I started with FrankTheTank's for proof-of-concept:

Clemson - FSU, GT, NC State
Duke - UNC, Wake, GT
FSU - Miami, Clemson, GT
GT - Clemson, FSU, Duke
Louisville - Pitt, VT, Wake
Miami - VT, FSU, BC
UNC - UVA, Duke, NC State
NC State - UNC, Wake, Clemson
Pitt - BC, Syracuse, Louisville
Syracuse - BC, Pitt, UVA
UVA - VT, UNC, Syracuse
VT - UVA, Miami, Louisville
Wake - Duke, NC State, Louisville
This can be restated as:
Group A || Group B
Set 1. Mia(FSU,VT),BC(Syr,Pitt) || FSU(Mia,Clem),GT(Clem,Duke)
Set 2. Syr(BC,UVA),Pitt(Lou,BC) || Clem(FSU,GT),NCSt(UNC,Wake)
Set 3. Lou(Pitt,Wake),VT(Mia,UVA) || Duke(GT,Wake),UNC(UVA,NCSt)
Set 4. UVA(Syr,VT,UNC) || Wake(NCSt,Duke,Lou)
Teams alternate between groups A and B such that they spend 2 of 4 years in the same Group as any other team (this was the new discovery for me). Teams play round-robins within that year's Group.
Teams in parentheses are permanent rivals that may/not be in the same group in a given year. In years when permanent rivals are in the same group, teams play opponents from the same Set who are always in the opposite group. Care was taken to ensure each Set's external rivals are mirrored between A and B; this was the difficult process of making sure everyone has exactly 2 cross-group opponents each year.
Naturally, with no "divisions" teams are still listed as all competing for the same 2 CCG spots, this is all just a hidden scheduling mechanism that prevents 3 teams from not playing each other and finishing at the top of the standings.
