Then just go with an 8 game schedule with 3 annual opponents, and rotate through the remaining 8 in a way where, in a 2 year cycle, you also play a home-home with 2 schools and play the remaining 6 once. In basketball have 3 permanent home-home opponents, then play 6 of the remaining 8 twice and the other 2 schools once in a given year for a 20 game slate.

FB: UMass, Temple, Navy, ECU, Charlotte, UAB, FAU, Tulane, Rice, UTSA, UNT, Tulsa.
BB: UMass, Temple, ECU, Charlotte, UAB, FAU, Tulane, Rice, UTSA, UNT, Tulsa, Wichita State.

In that scenario the AAC loses 2 eastern schools and one right in the center. Plus it's really ugly from a FB quality standpoint. I'd hope ECU is on the phone with the SBC.

If they were to join the SBC, the American would probably respond by adding MTSU or WKU, either of which would be a larger market, and do fine from the exchange.

However, ESPN has made clear their preference for the AAC to have 14 members, so it's unlikely that their membership would drop from 14 to 12. Thus, if they were to lose Memphis, SMU, USF, and ECU (to the SBC), and to add UMass, the American would probably add 3 more schools such as MTSU, WKU, and Air Force, CSU, FIU, or LaTech

FB: WKU, UTSA, UNT, UAB, Tulsa, Tulane, Temple, Rice, Navy, MTSU, Massachusetts, FAU, Charlotte, and Air Force, CSU, FIU, or LaTech.

MBB: WKU, Wichita State, UTSA, UNT, UAB, Tulsa, Tulane, Temple, Rice, MTSU, Massachusetts, FAU, Charlotte, and Air Force, CSU, FIU, or LaTech.

The Sun Belt is so far behind the AAC in recruiting (and they always will be) that ECU would instantly be the recruiting champion if that ever happened.

In fact, the new CUSA out recruits the Sun Belt.

From the CUSA Board:

The ECU President would be fired if they ever left the AAC for the Sun Belt..

There are 7 R1 Universities in the AAC (UAB, Memphis, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Temple, Tulane).

Here are the US News Rankings standings.

Rice — 17th

Tulane — 42nd

SMU — 68th

Temple — 103rd

South Florida — 103rd

Tulsa — 136th

UAB — 148th

East Carolina — 213th

Charlotte — 227th

Memphis — 249th

Florida Atlantic — 277th

North Texas — 277th

UTSA — 299th

Navy — N/A

Wichita State — 299th (non-football member)

Do you want to guess what the Sunbelt's is?

Not at all.

In fact, I'm rooting for the Sun Belt to climb the US News rankings and challenge the AAC for dominance.

It's important to note that basically all the reasonable and fair-minded Sun Belt fans who post on this board (i.e., the bulk of the forum's SBC-centric posters) have respectfully acknowledged that the future AAC will be more academically stout than the future SBC. I respect them for their doing so. Let's move on.

Same here. The only reason issues like academics were brought up was because some SBC fans were comparing the conferences and suggesting the SBC might be stronger in football, which they might be. The AAC fans responded by emphasizing things like men's basketball and academics.

Time will tell. It'll be interesting to see how things play out between the two football conferences.

Exactly.

There was a poster that suggested ECU join the Sunbelt.

It is an important counterpoint that University Presidents make those decisions, and if ECU joined the Sunbelt they'd be the TOP (the #1) Academic school in the Sunbelt by a wide margin with a #213 ranking in the U.S. News and World Report.

Well... gee... I'm not sure the President at ECU wants that distinction of being the biggest Academic Powerhouse in the Sun Belt conference with a 213th ranking.

Presidents usually like marrying up.

That said, kudos to the Sun Belt fans who have recognized that.

Exactly.

...kudos to the Sun Belt fans...

The back and forth discussion may have stimulated a rivalry between the conferences. If so, hopefully, it will be a friendly rivalry.

Colorado State is moving up in the poll and is in a battle with Louisiana Tech for 4th place, which isn't far behind WKU.

Question: Would the AAC be more inclined to add schools with large markets (e.g., FIU), or would they shift their strategy to go with schools with greater viewership potential due to higher quality teams (e.g., WKU)?

No need to go ad hominem, dude, unless you're aiming to get banned.03-idea

Reminder: PLEASE READ: Rules for staying on-topic on this board

The point of the above post was to shift the topic away from academics, as others above had suggested, and back onto athletics.

This has been one of the most energize threads on this board recently, and it remains an interesting topic of discussion.

.

Question to Georgia State fans - what is it that most interests you about the topic of future AAC replacement members?

I’m sorry counselor but as has already been established on this thread, the idea that schools that passed on the AAC with those schools would be willing after they’ve left is laughable so “LOL” is on topic and by definition no an ad hominem attack.

It’s funny to me though that someone that joined the site less than a year ago and has a very familiar posting style is repeatedly on here posting about board rules. You seem very familiar with them, you haven’t been banned in the past by chance under another name? No business of mine, I’m happy to let the mods do their jobs. Just a bit overbearing.
