RE: Josh Minott BOH!!!!
I don't think he's saying he can't. It's that he won't. That was the original report. In other news, he's not transferring. The dude will get drafted somewhere and sign with a team. Good for him.

other than entering the transfer portal on 4/29 after initially declaring on 3/24 he had no intention of returning to Memphis… what else do you need?

You can withdraw from the portal and return to the same school as many have done. There is ZERO factual about what you said. You just pulled it out of something without having a clue.
He declared for the draft but maintained his eligibility, in the same interview he declared he was not returning to Memphis; & one month later, he entered the transfer portal. He was the first Tiger to announce his departure & his family was rather vocal on his role. Sure, he can come back… but he’s never given the slightest indication he’s considering it.
I realize you’re arguing for the sake of argument but sometimes its best to simply let it go.

People keep saying that, and the ESPN report implied that...But I have yet to see a statement where he said he was not coming back to Memphis specifically. It has appeared to me to be more of the regular Chicken Littles, present company not excluded.

And still - no one has come up with a way Penny could have kept Josh in Memphis.
Play him more? At the expense of Duren and/or Deandre? Lose more games and he still goes to the NBA.
Have breakfast with him every morning? He still goes to the NBA.

You said he couldn't because he entered the portal, when clearly he can if he wants to. Your argument is complete nonsense, but keep doubling down.
If you have a link to your nonsense about him not being able to return because he is in the portal, please post it. Try and make it different from the nonsensical link you posted about him being in the portal...which has nothing to do with him not being able to return.

So he played 14.6 minutes per game and thinks he is ready for the NBA, but supposedly, IF he would have played 20-25 minutes he would be returning to Memphis. This is apparently because Penny, who is one of the most recognizable former athletes in the world, with global reach, who has a shoe that is still a top seller, lacks "seasoning" according to ponytail guy.
Then you have the other genius who is so completely clueless that he has no idea that you can withdraw from the portal at any time and return to your school, as tons of players already have.

I don't know Stammers - this may be splitting hairs, but in the article from on3.com that was posted, it states the following:
"However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore."
So, technically yes, a player can return to his previous school, but he would have to walk on if there was no scholarship available for him, or if the school had no interest in using a scholly for him. JMHO

Minott is either staying in the draft or playing college ball at another school. He is not coming back to Memphis.

I dont even know how this turned into some kind of argument...
Minott will never play as a Memphis Tiger again. He is either going pro (most likely) or he will be transferring.

Quote:However, entering the portal does not imply that the athlete will be leaving their current institution. It simply means they are exploring their options to transfer. An athlete can easily remove their name from the portal as Jones did prior to the start of the 2019 season.
It's not splitting hairs. Genius is saying he can't.

RE: Josh Minott BOH!!!!
What we know...
Josh's #1 goal is to play in the NBA.
Josh is invited to the combine and seems to be firmly in the draft.
Josh is also still in the transfer portal.
What we expect...
Josh will be in the NBA/G league next year.
Josh will not return to Memphis or to any other school.
What some here are presenting...
There is no way Josh returns to Memphis.
It's like I tell youngsters in my profession, when they say "there is 0% chance of that happening". There is almost always a chance of something, and words matter. So don't look like a goof and say 0% unless it is REALLY 100% factual.

As much as I would have liked to see him have more minutes, I don't see how. He was a 4 and we had Williams there. He was terrible at shooting the 3 (14%) so he would have had to take minutes from Duren or Williams.

What he did last year was earn more pt this year. He threw that away. His choice. If he goes in the first round he made the right choice. If he goes back to college he will find a place with more playing time: maybe.

yep, I agree completely with this.
Williams is/was the better college player. Minott may have an NBA career, or a better pro career, than Williams, but last season, Williams was the better college player.
There was unfortunately little upside for Minott getting more minutes last season and he is in the same boat this season. As long as Williams is coming back (and all indications are that he is), Williams will still be the better college player.
I dont think Penny mishandled Minott at all. There was a log jam at the 3-4 last season. Minott has no outside game to really get much at the 3.

There were minutes, but they were given to Dandridge. I realize he was a “5” & Minott a “4”, but shifting Williams over & giving Minott 4-5 more minutes likely would have been enough to hold onto him.
Malcolm was rewarded too often last year for simply going through the motions & bringing zero energy to the floor.

So you think if Minott was given 5 more minutes a game he would decide the NBA was not the place to be and stay in college?
I mean, he appears to be a solid 2nd round pick as is, another 5 minutes a game would convince him to give up his NBA aspirations?
That is the reason I am fully on board with him not taking more of Williams minutes, or having Williams play in a position he would not excel at. More minutes would still end with Minott leaving and I think Williams at the 4 was more valuable to us than 5 extra minutes for Minott.
