Been a season ticket holder since DeAngelo. Tiger lane member since it opened. Haven't renewed either yet this year - Silverdale and the Big 12 snub.

Was interested when I heard rumblings of a new stadium, but I don't know about this.

I hear you…. In reality, I think this might be the best we can do. It’s not what I had hoped for, but it’s a huge renovation. 150-200M is real commitment…

I have heard we will build a new stadium and I have heard we will upgrade the Liberty Bowl.

I assume ON MY OWN that if we renovate the Liberty Bowl it means we have not gotten an invite to the Big XII. I believe if that invitation was in hand we would be building an OCS. I also believe it is possible we don't know about the Big XII yet, and that could be part of the reason no announcement has been made to date. ALL OF THIS IS SPECULATION BASED ON ZERO INSIDE INFORMATION.

and thats fine, but why lol. i dont understand why everyone believes you must have a big fancy on campus stadium to get invited. The moment you accept a big12 invite, you get money for a stadium. why does stadium have to come before the invite? and this isnt to you directly. it's to anyone who thinks its on campus stadium or bust

Name a school who HAS gotten an invite to a P5 conference that DOESN'T have an OCS.

baylor didnt. miami still doesnt. ucla technically. washington? pitt still play at heinz field? Nc state? south carolina, northwestern, oregon..

Washington & Oregon literally play a cross the street & adjacent to their main campus & both own their stadiums.

I've made the walk from Eugene campus to Autzen Stadium and it my friend, is not across the street. Its across a freaking river, literally.

This will take transformational levels of donations and fundraising. There's not gonna be $5 tickets anymore. This is what it costs to be in the big leagues.
This looks fantastic.

True but you can't put a 5 dollar product on the field either

Went from never missing a game to I believe I have been to three in the last two years. Course, COVID, screwed up one year. Did get to go to the UCF game where the MPD was walking around policing masks. State game last year was fun.

Honestly though, I guess I shouldn't have expected the city and the University to get the stadium thing right. Never have before.

RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
They clearly anticipated the blowback. Capacity will remain around 50K.

Why invest this much on a renovation instead of building a new stadium?
We believe the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium renovation is the best option for the University of
Memphis because it is a transformational yet responsible investment that achieves all our goals.
It will demonstrate our commitment to sustainable competitive and recruiting success, provide a
tremendous, upgraded fan experience and secure positive long-term economic impacts for our
University and City, all while taking advantage of the current stadium infrastructure and the
investments already underway at Liberty Park. Perhaps most importantly, it will optimize our
position in the rapidly evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics in a more manageable and
efficient timeframe. This is the most strategically achievable option for us to pursue and make a
game-changing impact at a critical time for our program.

Did you seriously consider building a new stadium?
Yes, utilizing the services of world-renowned sports architecture firm Populous, we spent the past
several months extensively analyzing both options with an open mind and considered multiple
factors, ultimately choosing renovation as the optimal path for us to pursue for the reasons
indicated.

Yet they are building a 500,000,000 dollar stadium in Nashville for a NFL team, an we can’t get anything , and the old stadium is only 25 years old,

There's no way we should expect TN to do anything "equal" to Nashville when it comes to giving Memphis money...the city or the university.
Thus it was, thus it shall ever be.

Financially speaking, this is the right move for the UofM...when you have to fight & scrap for a pittance of funds compared to the UT system, you have to make do with what you have.

Will it be enough for a P5? Who knows.

Memphis seems to be planning to call em out on that when we need help keeping the Grizz in 8 years.

RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
With Liberty Park underway, I just dont think it was realistic for us to have an on campus stadium or new stadium at another location.

Going back to the on campus stadium push from the late 2000s and the feasibility study, I believe we had too many higher ups in the city involved in the development of Tiger Lane, and University didn't want to ruffle those feathers.

And now, we are kind of in the same predicament. The University, for whatever reason, seems to be unwilling to put itself first when it comes to these decisions.

That being said, I'm very impressed by the renderings, and optimistic in how it will turn out.

Now, we just have to figure out how to pay for it. We just need 10,000 of you to write a $20,000 check. Or maybe we can find 200 million people to donate $1 each...

RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
1) this is no update or upgrade...it's a total bottom up renovation like Jacksonville did when they got the Jags.

2) the area will finally have the infrastructure it needs with hotels and restaurants.

3) it looks VERY nice. Reminds me of Oregon's stadium.

I'm very pleased.

Financially speaking, who is paying for what and how are the costs split? The city better have their funds up front after the con game they pulled on the Pyramid funding fiasco. I hope our folks aren't going to get surprised by that again....

Otherwise, it is what it is, not what I was hoping for and not the optimum, but I guess it is just more of the same with a new coat of paint and some over-hyped minimal updates.
