Probably months away from Phillips asking Wake, Syracuse and BC to take a sizable haircut so he can shift some of those media dollars to the ACC's more "coveted" members.

Desperate measures for desperate times indeed

RE: ACC eliminating divisions 2023
My thoughts:

BC - Syracuse, Pitt, Miami
Clemson - FSU, GT, NC State
Duke - UNC, Wake, GT
FSU - Miami, Clemson, GT
GT - Clemson, FSU, Duke
Louisville - Pitt, VT, Wake
Miami - VT, FSU, BC
UNC - UVA, Duke, NC State
NC State - UNC, Wake, Clemson
Pitt - BC, Syracuse, Louisville
Syracuse - BC, Pitt, UVA
UVA - VT, UNC, Syracuse
VT - UVA, Miami, Louisville
Wake - Duke, NC State, Louisville

My main quibble with the potential opponents listed by Andy Staples is that I believe that Miami-VT needs to be protected and then the changes cascade from there.

Yours are definitely better! I hope FSU votes against any of these changes unless it rids us of annual games against both BC & Syracuse, at a minimum.

RE: ACC eliminating divisions 2023
Andy Staples’ list is honestly poorly put together. Having FSU play Syracuse and GT play Louisville when FSU/GT could be playing each other is nuts, for example.

His list of Pitt: Louisville, Miami and Syracuse is close.

Change Louisville to VT

Change Louisville to VT

Both VT and Miami have others they’d consider their top-3. Pitt likely ends up with Louisville by default.

RE: ACC eliminating divisions 2023
This is how I thought the league should be set up after ND, Syracuse, Pitt and Louisville joined.

I'm OK with almost any "permanent 3" pairing. For any of the teams.

To me, what will be critically important is the relative yearly FB schedule strength achieved on each team's schedule by the 5-team rotation.

Yes - that's how I saw it. I don't think Pitt would end up with either Miami or VT as annual rivals under this setup because Miami/VT have a lot of other higher priority rivals. BC and Syracuse seem to be givens to play Pitt annually and then Louisville would be the default third team.

The best set-up that I have seen…

FSU - Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech
Clemson - Georgia Tech, FSU and NC State
Miami - FSU, Virginia Tech and Pitt
Virginia Tech - UVa, Miami and Louisville
Georgia Tech - Clemson, Duke and FSU
Louisville - Pitt, Syracuse and Virginia Tech
NC State - Wake, UNC and Clemson
Pitt - Louisville, Syracuse and Miami
UNC - Duke, NC State and UVa
Syracuse - Boston College, Pitt and Louisville
Boston College - Syracuse, Wake and UVa
UVa - Virginia Tech, UNC and Boston College
Duke - UNC, Georgia Tech and Wake
Wake - NC State, Boston College and Duke

The Big Sky which gives each non-California school two permanent opponents (allegedly) let each school submit a name.

If the ACC wanted to make some money they could let boosters/season ticket holders choose the opponent (one dollar one vote).

If they went with one permanent rival and a 9-game schedule they could play every other school 2 out of three seasons.

This could be:

Miami-FSU
GT-Clemson
NC State-Wake
UNC-Duke
UVA-VT
Louisville-Pitt
Syracuse-BC

I'd imagine FSU wouldn't be happy getting stuck w/ Syracuse or any other Northern team. I understand you can't make everybody happy but you'd best make sure you re biggest football brands / flight risks are.

I agree with that here. FSU's priorities are very different than Miami's priorities (who would actually want at least one Northeastern rival) despite being in the same state.

Great move. Their divisions were always kind of dumb.

The proposed rivals are trash. The opjective should be to preserve rivalries and make the biggest games annuals. Having worked on this alot this is the permanant rivals and offseason schedule that accomplishes this.
ACC Permanent Rival Schedule

The ACC permanent rivals would look like this with composition below:

Team Opponent 1 Opponent 2 Opponent 3
Boston College: Pittsburgh Virginia Syracuse
Clemson: Georgia Tech Florida State NC State
Duke North Carolina Miami Wake Forest
Florida State Miami Georgia Tech Clemson
Georgia Tech Clemson Florida State Virginia Tech
Louisville Wake Forest Pittsburgh Syracuse
Miami Florida State Duke Virginia Tech
North Carolina Duke NC State Virginia
NC State Wake Forest North Carolina Clemson
Pittsburgh Boston College Louisville Syracuse
Syracuse Pittsburgh Louisville Boston College
Virginia North Carolina Boston College Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech Georgia Tech Miami Virginia
Wake Forest Louisville Duke NC State

Wake and UNC care enough about their rivalry to schedule themselves OOC. It would be nice if that could be recognized by whoever puts this together.

Andy Staples’ proposal is 100% trash. Agreed.

A quick fix on yours is BC playing UVA while Miami plays Duke. You can flip that so Miami plays BC and UVA plays Duke.
