Siena (MAAC):Top 65 market, great fan support, no March Madness since 2010 and seems like a chronic underachiever

College of Charleston (CAA): Top 75 market that extends the A-10 footprint; good fan support, especially for mid-major in the South; just one NCAA bid since 2000

Detroit Mercy and Oakland (Horizon): Top 10-15 market, UDM probably fits he traditional A-10 profile better, but Oakland has enjoyed a bit more success and seems to have a better fan following as well; deep in the shadows of Pistons, UM and MSU

Wouldn't classify any of the three as a "good" candidate

Literally can't think of any other school that'd be a realistic possibility (and yes that means Temple and Wichita from the AAC are no-go's)

Montevallo: located in the greater Birmingham market, Alabama's only public liberal arts university, no football team, but does have good women's and good men's soccer teams (men just barely missed the NCAA D2 tournament), awesome baseball and softball teams, men & women's lacrosse, swimming, men and women's basketball, volleyball,...

If location were no issue then Vermont would be BY FAR the best choice. Unfortunately they are stuck in the middle of nowhere. I am still rooting for them to get added regardless, regular games against Rhode Island and UMass would be great to see.

Their budget is really low even by MAAC standards. They pretty much had to win a National Championship to move up - I don’t think even a Final Four would have cut it.

Detroit would be a good choice. They actually fit the A10 profile. Northern Kentucky in no way fits the A10 profile. The MVC is monitoring NKU anyway for future expansion.

The thing is... they suck. So they aren't getting added.

A-10 isn’t going to 16 just for an even number. If they’re going to 16, it’s because either Temple became a possibility or they’re targeting Belmont or College of Charleston.

What is the A-10 profile?

You forgot:

Upper Iowa
North Dakota State
Grand Canyon
Belmont
Northern Kentucky
Bently
Stone Hill
Wagner

:)

Mercyhurst and Gannon. Corner the key Erie market.

I have trouble believing Temple would give up their 6ish Mil a year and good chance at the G5 access bowl in the AAC to go to the A10 and MAC for<$3 mil a year.

I'm sure there are a few High Schools in Idaho you forgot to mention as well.

Why would the MAC take two football affiliates who were affiliates before and left because they didn’t want to be full members. And they both suck.

Good list, but I’m not sold on Iona or Belmont. Iona because minus Pitino they’re irrelevant and have a tiny gym. Belmont because they would have been added by now; the timing would be strange. Seems they would have been invited with Loyola.

The other two make sense for a variety of reasons. I’d add Delaware to that list as well. If Holy Cross wanted to commit, they’d be an excellent addition. I just don’t see it happening.

I doubt it. ESPN would have to be sweetening the pot considerably. Maybe the markets move the needle enough, but I don't see it.
