No argument with battle. Blame bob brigham for firing coach Mac. Xavier Silas most talented to transfer in.

This is hard. So many that I liked.
Marin Maric, Jake Anderson, Abdul Nader, Cody Yelder, Mike Dinnunio. It's between Marin and Abdul as favorites to transfer. I didn't even know NIU existed when Battle was around.
All time transfer in, Xavier Silas. Loved the way he played.

Well, I was around to watch Battle and, believe me, nobody amongst that group was even close to Kenny talent wise. You can make an argument for Nader later in his career but as a Huskie - nope.

Xavier was the better scorer. Battle could not shoot but man could he defend. Was an assassin on the point on Johnny McD’s press. Best dunker since Dawkins.

Who was the player from South Florida that transferred in that lead NIU to its last NCAA tourney appearance in 1996?

Why did Dennis Douglas leave NIU for Ferris State?

Chris Coleman
I'm in awe of this season. This is way before my time at NIU. A 20-10 season!? And we made the tourney, almost knocking off the legendary Texas Tech program that was the 3rd seed!?
Maybe things were different back then, but I feel like we were undersized. TJ Lux at 6'9 was a center, Jamal Robinson at 6'4 was a forward and Chris Coleman at 6'3 was also a forward? Looks like they all put up points and picked up boards.
Can someone describe this team to me? I am guessing they were fast to cover that size. From what I've heard before, Lux is a legend.

We were not in the MAC and won the Midwest Collegiate Conference tournament which got us the bid. That Texas Tech team was put on probation after the fact, and I believe had to forfeit all their tourney win that year. TJ Lux had the flu that day, and barely played as he had major digestive issues. Coleman played like a beast that day and so did Hartke. Hartke ended up deciding to quit basketball after that year to go to medical school, and Hammel lost interesting in coaching soon after. It was a magical season though

RE: Who was best basketball player to leave NIU and transfer to NIU
NIU was a 14 seed, TT was a 3 seed. TT was favored by 14.
NIU was down the whole game, and was never close, until the last two minutes. TT missed some free throws, NIU got hot and closed to within 1 with about 2 seconds to go......Lux was very sick that day, he was bent over the whole game while playing....
The game was on national TV for the last 10 minutes or so. Back then only one channel was broadcasting and switching between games.
NIU has beaten Wisconsin TWICE in basketball. Once in the 70's, and again in the 90s at Chick Evans in one of the best games ever at the fieldhouse.
I believe parts of that game (1999?) are on youtube. That Wisconsin team coached by Dick Bennett went on to the final 4, so NIU can say they have beaten a final 4 team in basketball. For those who have not been to a game at Chick Evans, you have missed one of the great college venues in terms of fan site, and fan loudness in college basketball. Ah the "verbal abuse" section.....Listen to how loud Chick Evans got that night:

Lived on the basketball team floor with Kenny in Neptune Central my senior year. Brad was in my graduating class at Glenbard East. Both were amazing talents.

Posting for a friend (who has way more Huskie background than all of us put together):
Best transfer into NIU? How about Jim Smith? Our first NBA and ABA draft choice, NIU, IBCA, Maine West HOFer, NIU All-Century, etc. 16 points and 20 rebounds vs. 6-11 "Slammin" Sam Lacey of New Mexico State in the Chicago Stadium (1968-69). Averaged 20.1 ppg. and 14.4 rbpg. in 48 career NIU appearances.
