That leaves Osten as the only actual question mark.

Nooooo! Not Zool! That is so not cool!

How are we going to replace the 3.8 pts/GM in 16 minutes of play? And how are going to replace all those missed 3 point shots?

2 more to for the cleansing to be complete- Matthias from the 1971 movie Omega Man.

He's graduated so this transfer means nothing.

VC had him as a Jr. But their years seem off so I am sure you are right.

I cannot relate to the zeal that some “fans” exhibit in knocking a college basketball player or coach. These guys work so hard 12 months a year six days a week to provide us with entertainment and excitement. To me it is sad that more people cannot just appreciate the beauty and choreography of basketball and the competitive nature of the game but rather choose to focus on the negative

You are right, I should have more zeal for Zool.

VC got all screwed up during the pandemic with extra years and whatnot.

But he played 2 years JUCO and 2 at NIU, and was listed as a senior by NIU and was highlighted during Senior Night.

From my understanding, you don't get it if you transfer. You have to use that extra year with the school you got it.

Then again, I can't figure out how Osten still has a year of eligibility so its possible either I'm wrong or the article on it I read was wrong.

Well, he has played four full years……..he has to have a year left for some reason.

Huskie47,
I thought it was but you are right, we forget these are young kids and not highly paid pros. They deserve better.

Yeah, tragic. Apparently maybe some find it a positive that Zool is moving on. Maybe some weren't "entertained and excited" by Zool's pathetic performance.

If this was true, Rocky would be out of eligibility.

Unless football and basketball are playing by different sets of rules for some reason, I do not think you are correct.

For what it's worth...

NIU Hoops has been touting the incoming class of players with videos and whatnot on social media (I really only look at instagram but I'm sure it's across the platforms).

Taku Youngblood
Armandas Plintauskas
Xavier Amos
Zarique Nutter
David Coit
Yanic Niederhäuser

Zero mentions of Martice Mitchell.

1. It's "Huskie"

2. I find it funny our guys transfer out and the best they can do is another MAC school.

And by "funny" I don't mean "funny".

That’s because they’re MAC caliber players who are trying to find a MAC team that can make march madness. Nader, Bowie, Anderson all went to Iowa St. and Maric went to DePaul.

Yup. Just came to post it myself.

Also...not to pat myself on the back here but...I kinda called this one too.

So, that opens up another slot (I think).

Too bad Jerome Palm just committed to Valparaiso. His size would have been greatly welcomed. Granted....maybe Martice Mitchell is actually going to show up (not likely).

As for guys who already have an offer on the table and Coach wants to get deeper at the post, the size really isn't there. Skylar Robinson is 6'8" and is a JUCO transfer (junior). Bryant Selabangue is also a JUCO transfer but a sophomore one and stands 6'9". I'll have to relook over what I wrote up about these guys but I don't recall being overly impressed with either of them.

Takai Emerson-Hardy, if I recall, I kinda liked but he's 6'7". Same with Victor Panov (6'7"). Actually, I really liked Panov even though he's getting zero attention other than from Burno.

There's a couple others, 6'6" Mohamed Toure who I initally wrote off because he had offers from both Army AND Navy. But he's still uncommitted. I liked him but he just doesn't help much in the post when we might need some actual muscle.

Then again, if we're looking now at HS freshmen, adding yet another big is just adding more of the same. We also don't exactly have a ton of guys in that SF mold so maybe Toure could be a guy who lands in our lap and is better than expected.

Same goes for Mamborou Mara who stands 6'7". I recall being intrigued by him and he was a later offer so I wasn't sure what to make of him.

If Burno wants to add a guard scorer, especially one to replace Powell, he has to go after Anthony Roy. That kid can score and might pair real well with Coit coming into the program.

The other two names I didn't mention were Derrick Claxton (6'6" SG) and Jason Drake (6'2" PG) barring any late offers that might come out of this.

RE: NIU Hoops Recruits for 2022-23
Non-NIU related transfer but an interesting name came across the portal. Anderson Mirambeaux transferred from Cleveland State to Miami.

Mirambeaux (6'8", 305...if you believe that number) was a somewhat highly talked about HS senior last year (probably because he put up 20 against Oak Hill). I seem to recall talking about him here and, needless to say, I never understood the fascination with the guy.

He never at all looked to me like a fit 305. Actually, he struck me as being out of shape and grossly overweight but being extremely athletic allowing him to overcome the body.

IMO, if he dropped 40 pounds he'd be a monster.

Last year at Cleveland State, Mirambeaux played in 25 games and averaged 5.5 minutes and 1.5 ppg shooting 33.3% FG and 47.4% FT (9 of 19).

Anyway...I guess we'll have a somewhat front row seat to see if this dude can live up to the hype.
