And it'll be one of the strongest Men's Soccer leagues in the NCAA from Day 1.

A top-level men’s soccer league, coupled with solid baseball, softball and football programs definitely makes the SBC an elite G5. Now, if SBC MBB can be improved maybe the SBC can steal the AAC’s label as a P6. lol

Hard to make that broad statement when we're not doing our part. Though, I do understand your point.

In what way is JMU not doing its part?

My guess is baseball and MBB?
In terms of soccer, baseball and softball there really isn't the same P5/6 mentality in the way as football and MBB. We're already up there as a league though, I can't imagine another league (maybe even amongst some of the P5) that can claim the respect the SBC will own from day 1 2022/23 season in those sports.

I agree. Especially about baseball. If JMU doesn’t change direction and improve in baseball, however, JMU is going to suffer, mostly because the SBC is already playing at a very high level sending multiple teams to the NCAAT each year. Coastal won the CWS in 2016, and Southern Miss has been a NCAAT regularly, hosting and winning regionals. JMU won’t really hurt the SBC standing in baseball, but the Dukes wont be helping much either.
As for MBB, JMU’s present level of play is not much different than the rest of the current SBC. Perhaps (with the new arena) JMU can help the SBC improve the level of recruiting. ODU can also contribute to improving the level of recruiting and play, and Marshall has had some recent good MBB teams. My point tho is that improving SBC MBB has got to be a league-wide effort.

RE: Sunbelt Soccer
Depends on sport, but the Big East has a legit claim as a power conference in basketball. SBC would be competing to be the 7 or 8 there. But the overall point is a good one. Future is looking bright! Go Dukes!

That is awesome and a nice extra 3 added that need a home as well under the SB banner.

Love the teams listed. Kentucky, South Carolina, and West Virginia add a nice wrinkle that I think will get more people to tune in.

So basically the SBC East (sans Appy) with three power conference schools in there. None of these schools are geographic outliers either. This is actually awesome.

Six of the nine programs in the new Sun Belt men's soccer league finished in the top 70 in RPI last season.

Sounds like UCF will come aboard as well when they go to Big 12.

You specifically mentioned MBB, we are not any better than about mid-pack of SB MBB. We're not lifting SB basketball. Maybe we're headed in the right direction, but adding JMU basketball is not anything any of the current SB teams are thumping their chests over. I certainly hope we can get our program to the point we're a perennial threat to win the conference, but there's a lot of distance between where we are and where we need to be as a program. Arguing with a different opinion means you simply like to argue. Did I say that? Say it "ain't" so.

I would say MBB in the SB is to MBB at JMU. They are both the weakest parts.
Also, both are working to improve.
I think it's easy to say JMU needs to improve to help the Sun Belt, but so does the rest of the Sun Belt.
The Sun Belt has done a phenomenal job in turning around football. Basketball needs to be the next major focus.
Both JMU and Sun Belt MBB are working on improving. JMU is perhaps a step ahead. I don't see why both couldn't lift up the other.

Yeah JMU is certainly making the effort(finally). New arena and a solid bump in the head coach's pay while hopefully being willing and able to bump it up more when necessary. So sure you can say JMU isn't doing their part there, but JMU is making the effort.

Apparently the shoe is a better fit on you.
Where did I ever suggest JMU was either a major plus or minus in contributing to helping SBC MBB improve? I’ll wait…
We’re actually in agreement that the entire SBC MBB profile is pretty blah, and JMU (as of this moment) fits right in, so stop trying to split frog hairs.
It might be said (with some degree of objectivity) that JMU brings to SBC basketball the best basketball arena in the league, and that has to be considered a positive contribution. The entire league, however, is (at least) several recruiting cycles (and notable victories) away from improving its national profile.
