Every team Penny has coached here has been dysfunctional. Too many promises & too little leadership. I like the guy, but he is not a leader.
Not a leader? It is your opinion, but can you demonstrate with facts how you know this? He certainly turned things around after a challenging start to the season. That's called leadership.
His teams underperform every year.
He turned things around once Bates was gone, but could not repair the damage & keep his squad together.
I have no confidence next season will be better than this one.
Are you so daft as to believe that the reason the players that are choosing to leave are leaving simply because of Penny? In case you missed it, he was able to "keep the squad together" in order for them not only to make the tournament with an at-large bid, but actually win their first round game and take the overall #1 seed to the edge in the second round before losing by 4. That's ain't chicken feed. Players leaving to explore their options is happening all over. Get used to it. As the saying goes, it's the new normal.

Bull poop... This is the new reality of college basketball. Practically all teams will be losing 4+ players due to transfer every year from now on. It just is what it is.

Go look for yourself. It is very easily verifiable. Do some basic math. There are over 1,000 players on the portal already this year…

Indeed. Anyone who couldn't see the strong recovery and redemption isn't being honest. To be blunt, with fair officiating, we would have beat Gonzaga by a comfortable margin.

Link?
Stuff hit the fan around the time of the Ole Miss game. We were very close to losing a couple of players right after that loss. The situation was unhealthy— favoritism toward Bates while throwing veteran players under the bus. The writing was on the wall for Minott, Nolley, and to an extent, Lester, well before Christmas.
LQ’s situation seemed to balance out more as the season went on. He is a really good indicator of where the program is at— especially as to whether Brown returns, things have been reconciled with Penny, etc.

Interesting narrative. Do you realize it was actually when Williams came back from injury that it turned around. Anything to bash Penny or Bates, though, right? Since you won't have any confidence and hate the coach, no sense pretending to be a fan.
Don't let the door hit you.
Why did the team need turning around

RE: Lester ... BOH?
Perhaps the fact we’ve had 11 players over 2 seasons voluntarily leave the program when there was opportunity for playing time here is a red flag.
Minott
Nolley
Quinones
Onu
Camden
Timberlake
DJ Jeffries
Boogie Ellis
Damien Baugh
Jordan Nesbitt
Moussa Cisse
In addition, the only 2 recruits we committed, Knox & Batchelor, decommitted & moved on. Our transfer roster is quite talented.
While transfers are the new normal, the steady attrition of contributing players we are experiencing is not normal.

In other words, no insider knowledge. Its no mystery. You were very silent while the team was playing well. Only happy when it rains.

I think Marc’s point is a good one. He’s not claiming to be an insider. He’s just pointing out what’s going on with transfers and the reasons, or likely reasons, guys are leaving. We’ve all commented on Penny’s bizarre use of personnel.
Until Penny changes that particular situation, it’ll continue to exacerbate the transfer situation. Pretty simple to see.

My post, that he was responding to, was asking if the poster had any insider knowledge. It was that context in which I reference insider knowledge. As far as reasons go, its all speculative. Some choose the optimistic view and others the pessimistic. The truth is, no one knows the exact reasons for any player migrations, and it doesn't imply there will be no new players committing to the school or that we are looking at fielding a weak team next season.
Some posters have been consistently down on the coach, and "Mensa" is undoubtedly one of them. He tends to only post negative things about Penny and the program, hence the "only happy when it rains." Its been pretty transparent.

Neither is stupidity, but it has never stopped you. Just so you know, my loyalty isn't blind. I have reasons to be optimistic. You're another of those who've bashed Penny incessantly, and he proved you wrong. So it goes.

You have me mixed up. I have been a Penny fan always. I was for hiring him after Pastner. But if making things up helps you feel better about yourself, by all means, make stuff up.

Timberlake is clearly the most alarming yet because he is actually choosing to sit out a year.
