Last year, they were late in getting the renewal packets out, so there was a delayed due date. (I believe it was in June.) I would expect another delayed renewal date this year.

The season tickets themselves were always something to look forward to. Some of the designs were quite good. Now, with them pushing for electronic tickets, the fun is gone. The paper tickets now are simple, generic Ticketmaster tickets. As long as I can get any paper tickets, I'm fine because I will not accept electronic tickets. If there is one thing I have leaned about Athletics over the years is that if something can go wrong, it generally will. Plus, I usually bring other people with me to the games, and I like to hand them their own tickets. Plus, if I can't make it to a game and want to give my tickets to someone else, there are less headaches for me and them to just give them the paper tickets. If something should go wrong electronically (and it certainly can), the paper ticket is evidence that you've paid to get into the game and sit in a reserved seat.

I forgot something. Remember when season ticket renewals and HAF packets were available at a season ticket holder/donor event before a basketball game in February? Players were seated at a table handing out the packets and there were speeches by coaches and players. It was a nice little event, complete with appetizers and drinks. Ah, "the good old days"!

I prefer my milk delivered by the milk truck. Who knows what happens in these supermarkets. Milk from the truck is closer to the farm.

And I only use a dial telephone!

Totally agree with you! I have my dairy products delivered mornings by a milk man.

I too use rotary dial telephones. I even demanded a rotary dial on my cell phone. That had to be custom made and cost me a pretty penny. But, you should see the looks I get when I whip out my 10-pound brick phone and start dialing!

I'm unsure if I will be able to make it back to Illinois for any games this year so will unlikely buy season tickets and instead just make a HAF donation that is tax deductible.

Toledo does this extremely well. As an example, at one time they gave out a set of Rocket drinking glasses for season ticket holders.

Toledo is missing the boat if they are giving out drinking glasses ... a more creative and fun gift would be a free pocket rocket for every season ticket holder.

I heard a rumor that Athletics will indeed be offering season ticket holders a gift this year. This desktop-sized model of his golf cart will be personally signed by STF!

Now, tell me THIS won't induce you to buy season tickets!!

Yes, but that's only for the mega donors. However, models for the ordinary donors/season ticket holders will have an indentation on his seat where his arse is always planted. (And, there will be a couple mini hot dog wrappers on the floor!)

There's even less incentive to buying season tickets when you might get two, maybe three Saturday home games. NIU ends up selling the weekday November tickets for dirt cheap.

I rarely make it to more than one game a year but have always kept the tickets to support the school and the football program. I know from this board and talking to others though I am part of a diminishing group. It is unfortunate because many of us have memories of grander times at NIU than the dismal offering currently being put forth by the school and athletics.

I am not even sure if football continues to stack wins and gets back to being in the top 25 if it will be enough to bring the fans back. I think institutionally there is a lot broken at NIU and do not believe football alone will be enough to turn that tide.

I was buying season tickets every year too. I think Athletics will get more out of me donating any money i would have spent on season tickets to HAF. They can use the money at their own discretion. I end up giving most of the tickets away for free since I don't live in Illinois and they still often go unused.

I agree, the university needs better leadership and vision to turn things around. They also need a huge cash infusion and have desperately needed a major fundraising plan to make impactful change.

I took paper last year and was disappointed they were generic ticketmaster tickets rather than the normal cool ones we had in the past.

Joe

It's a cost saving measure since they are pushing season ticket holders to use electronic tickets. Thus, with more people using electronic tickets, there is less of a need for the paper tickets. Printing custom tickets would cost even more with a lower quantity. I am okay with the generic tickets just as long as I can get the hard tickets. For all I care, they could print the tickets on hot dog wrappers (which would make the tickets incredibly rare and valuable)!

Oh I'm glad they are paper tickets at all. it was just disappointing to see they were stock TM tickets. Its just another FU to the people who actually support the team consistently. WiFI out there sucks so if there is a problem getting your tickets on your phone you're screwed.

I used to keep tickets to all events I went to. With my Iphone I have transitioned to using electronic tickets and using my wallet on the phone so I can show the ticket even if wifi is down. I find most events I go to now use electronic tickets. For me now I don't have to worry about losing the ticket from my pocket. Just an older guy who left paper tickets in the past I guess. Nothing against all who like paper tickets.

You can also lose/misplace your phone, or it could malfunction. Many times my phone would freeze and stop working. I have never lost or forgotten a paper ticket.....and they don't malfunction.

My ice maker broke and I lost the recipe to make ice. I now have ice delivered by horse which is better than by car or truck since gas prices are so high.

I get all my ice in the winter. It's free and plentiful. I go to a local lake and chop out large blocks of ice to fill my ice box and smaller chunks for my drinks.

Just got a season ticket renewal email. I'm packing as I type this to move from L.A. to Charleston SC, but going to re-up again to support the program.

Gonna be a good season coming up I think.

GO HUSKIES!

I'm going to purchase season tickets this year for the first time. I just look at it as a simple and relatively cheap way to support the program. I will probably only make it to 2-3 games like I usually do. Buy tickets! Support the Huskies! We are coming off a great season and they deserve our support.

Go Huskies

Same with me. I don't go to the November winter midweek night games. That's what my TV and warm living room are for.

Charleston is great. I think you will like it. Congrats on the move! I've done cross country moves, they are a beast.
