Maybe I got spoiled again but the last decade I think we had a lot of guys who played some of their best basketball when their best was needed. Not sure if that = alpha but basketball tough guys. Ford, Stahl, Walker, Eatherton, Vasa

Having watched the last two games against UNCW, it sure looks to me like NU is clearly better than your conference record indicates. Did you guys take care of the ball better in your nonconference schedule?

Not really.

RE: 21-22 basketball.
This first half told me what I knew. The turnovers are the reason we are a bad team but we are an absolute disgrace because there are some guys out there that have totally let go of the rope mentally. I'll leave it at that but this collective group should be ashamed. There is no way we should be down 7 points at the half in ths game. JMU sleep walked through 15 minutes. I'm angry at myself for being angry at this point.

Did you notice that we didn't substitute in the second half?

As much as that is suicide, I was glad to see it. The starters were a collective +9 and the bench was a collective -34. I don't know why this is bothering me as much as it is. I don't see any hope for a win until the final 3 game homestand

I was, too. The bench was useless in the first half.....actually worse than useless.

I don’t know why either. I watch just increments of our games now and follow the gamecast online. Too many mistakes are made in these losses to see for my taste.

I don’t take the losses home or dwell on them the last month or so.

RE: 21-22 basketball.
I just looked at statistics and made my CAA First Team. It is my opinion, not a prediction. If Delaware's Dylan Painter is out for the season, Djogo makes my First Team. I care about shooting, I will leave great scorers off my First Team if they don't shoot well, and I don't hesitate to choose players over teammates who score more. Hofstra's Aaron Estrada, UNCW's Mike Okauru, Towson's Cameron Holden, and Drexel's Camren Wynter are the rest of my First Team. If I made Second and Third Teams, I would consider Doherty. With Painter injured and Drexel's James Butler contributing less, Doherty is closer to being the top forward.

The top nine impact players I feel like I have seen this year are Estrada, Holden, Okaru, Morse, Cooks, Meeks, Wynter, Sims and Doherty. After that, there seems to be a big dropoff or maybe I just didn't see enough of that team

Some of these online play-by-play announcers are just brutal and can’t pronounce a name properly to save their life.

Yeah, but these guys were worse than usual. It's just lazy to not look at the phonetic spellings that they are given and mispronounce McClintonck's and Stucke's names all game long.

That’s why a PR or SID should either provide a phonetic pronunciation list or meet the opposing broadcasters to go over the roster and make sure they can properly pronounce names.

I did that when I was with the Sox during spring training when you have minor league level public address announcers.

Insert broken record but I truly think this is going to impact next year. There is something (or things) fundamentally broken in this program at the moment. It my be able to be fixed, but it is going to take a heck of an effort and time.

I really think you’re overreacting to this bad season. I don’t see this impending doom and gloom you keep clamoring about.

Like NUGuy said… tell us what’s broken?

RE: 21-22 basketball.
I reflected upon this and think I continue clamoring (a highly underrated word by the way) because things are actually getting worse as the season progresses. I’m not able to see consistent effort or anything new implemented in terms of gameplan. And when I look at the players, I am not able to see one that I can honestly say looks to have improved from this time last year. These have come as a shock to me. Even at 0-8 or whatever, I thought the team may play a couple of good games and someone may emerge a little bit.

I’m not sure what else specifically is broken (if anything) but the competitive juices of this team sure appear to be. Once a group gets used to losing, it’s often a very difficult cycle to break out of in the short run. That’s what accounts for my doom and gloom about next year. With the nature of the sport, I wouldn’t even speculate beyond that, though, so it’s not like I am saying I think we are in for a bad decade or anything. I hope I’m wrong and guys stay on board, we find an alpha or two and things improve. I’m more hopeful than I am confident, though.

RE: 21-22 basketball.
NU blows an 8 point lead with under a minute left and committed 3 turnovers in the last 25 seconds to lose 76-73.

We’ve probably lost a handful of games this season not making plays down the stretch.

Unreal...

On the bright side it looks like the team finally got the message that the guys finally got the message that they need to get the ball inside and stop relying on three point shots.

I give Hofstra a lot of credit for the outcome. They made the two threes that made it close and the defensive choices they made (bringing it down to a question of can we make two foul shots) was textbook.
