UC wins 15-14, now 2-0.....

Pitching falling apart again in game 2 of DH. Staff struggles throwing strikes. 6-0 them still 1st inning.

Gave up 5 in the 1st inning to start the last game.

Going to need to win games that look like football scores this season.

6-2 FGCU top of the 3rd.

7-5 bad guys. I think it’s the bottom of the 6th but the feed doesn’t put that graphic up.

Screwed my knee up on ice so it’s been nice to watch baseball on the couch.

Usually I use ice to fix my knee.

I much prefer it floating in my Manhattan than falling on it.

This is what happened last season as well. The Diamond Bearcats can score, but the pitching has been suspect. The biggest weakness has been in the middle relief.

Second verse, same as the first…

0-5 FGCU in 2nd inning. This UC pitching staff is rough.

Now 0-10 FGCU still in the 3rd. Our guy on the mound is throwing BP.

We went for the 2 point conversion.

Now down 16-8 in the 8th.

It would appear that pitching will be an issue this year

Yep.

I was hoping pitching would improve but 46 runs in 4 games is not good. And they have 35 walks and have hit 13 batters in 4 games. That's just bad.

On the hitting side, UC struck out 13 times today. They have struck out 47 times in 4 games.

Pitching isn’t very good (again) and we have a squad that spins on its front heel and swings as hard as it can on every pitch. Lump this in with basketball as programs that need a different level of recruit before heading into the B12.

All true, but northern teams seem to traditionally struggle in the early season playing in the sunny south. Obviously, pitching and hitting must improve but under Googins that's mostly been the case as the season progresses.

Bearcats headed to Florence, Alabama this weekend to take on North Alabama. The Lions dropped their first three against Southern Miss and play Vandy tomorrow. Hopefully the Bearcats lick their wounds and take care of business this weekend.

Combined with last season and expected growth, he could be looking at being drafted in the first 5 rounds or so this season. Much better contact hitter than Weimer (who is now listed in most Top 25 outfield prospect lists based on the second half of last season where his swing adjustments started taking hold), little less natural power, decent, if unspectacular, runner and decent glove.

Komistek did a lot of that damage in game 1 of the doubleheader going 5-6 with a walk, a double, a HR and 3 RBIs.

It was a bad start for UC at North Alabama. UC lost 5-2 to a team that scored 5 runs in 3 games last week.


My wife just said - "You have to do a lot of negative bantering now that football is over, don't you?"

Two of the games against North Alabama were canceled due to weather.

We have added a non-conference game against @OhioStateBASE on Wednesday at 5 PM at UC Baseball Stadium. See you at the ballpark! ?
