Don't forget Buffalo ... so that record is 5-2 w/losses to Ohio/UB and a game still to play vs. UB.

Not to look ahead, lots of games still to play but ... can 4 losses still win the MAC????

Agree. I think being healthy and being able to have normal 5 on 5 practices had a lot to do with the improvement.
I remember a similar game against a Bob Huggins' team at the MACC in, I think, 1984-85. I recall Akron hardly scoring at all the first half. I think Akron had even fewer first half points than Ohio had tonight. But my memory could be off.

I remember Christian saying once that every year you have a couple games where you play much better than you are and a couple where you play really bad. I think we had one of our good ones tonight while OU had one of their clunkers. Really impressive win. Great defensive effort.

I'm not sure I can recall a game that was that lopsided on the scoreboard while being equally lopsided the other way on fouls. At one point I looked in the second half and OU had a 25-9 advantage on fouls. Odd to see, but great to see we didn't let it bother us.

It is good team basketball. It’s great to watch Kent play hard. That separates the pack.

Want to know what's amazing .... blew the doors off the two best teams in the MAC and only scored 75 points or less to do it. Not much being said but Kent is playing some monster defense during this run.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio
I have so many questions...
Where did this team come from this week? Two weeks ago I was hoping we'd just beat Akron.
What happened to Ohio? I thought they where good?
What happened to Toledo? I thought they where good??
Where did the fans come from?
What was up with all the reach-in fouls we commit? From what I saw most of them were legit. A little ticky-tack, but legit.
Whatever is happening I hope we can keep hold of it. My friend from OU text me and said it's all about the tournament. I wouldn't want us to pull an Akron from 2017.

I'll eat my words. I will say it goes so much more smooth when we run plays on offense.

The season wasn’t over after the two dumb losses and it isn’t over tonight after eight straight wins.

Lets do something crazy and save the ‘I told you so’s’ until mid-March.

I don't need to save them. Whatever happens in March isn't changing my mind either way. 11 years and I know what I know.

Actually, should we win out in the regular season, I would say Sendy will win MAC COY. Don't know if we will win the last 4 but if we do.....BTW has anyone been over to the OU message board? Whoa. We sure sent them into a tizzy.

It’s great to see Kent State playing good, hard basketball. That is a testament to coaching for sure.

Effort like that is what has made KSU hoops so much fun to follow even in the seasons when the team wasn't at the top of the standings. Recently there have been several stretches that caused some (me for sure) to question if that standard has changed. So "where are the Sendy critics now?" I'm one I guess. But I think its understood that Rob Senderoff has more knowledge of how to coach NCAA Division I basketball in his pinky toe than I, or most of us, could ever dream of.

As for the good people of Ohio U….wow. This one clearly stung the friends of the Bobcat. And the suggestion that the Dutch bigs are not related is absolute hogwash.

Preach. After the bad second loss I thought he lost the team. The bench was extremely quiet during games, the players always seemed mad at each other. Sendy made a comment in the post game that they need to get back to having fun playing together again. Idk what happened but the mood of the team is a complete 180. Now you can hear the bench even with a loud crowd. Even the guys out of the rotation seem engaged and excited. I know winning is more fun than losing but they are having a ton of fun during games. I know some of the antics rub opponents the wrong way but Idc. A couple weeks ago it seemed like these guys didn't care each other existed, now it seems like they've been playing together their whole life. In the era of the transfer portal this type of team chemistry is rare. I think the coaches and players deserve a ton of credit.

This is the one concern I have with the team right now. We struggle to play individual post defense without fouling. IMO Hamilton, Odusipe, Hornbeak, and Garcia all struggle here. Last night the first three had 4 fouls and Hornbeak had 2 in 4 minutes. Freeman exposed this problem in the second half of the Akron game and it was the only reason Akron stayed in the game. You're right that they were ticky tack. Many were not egregious but the fact that it kept happening showed a lack of adjusting to how they're officiating you. Fortunately for us, our perimeter defense is so good it makes it harder to expose the post defense and pounding it in the post is not something teams are great at now a days.

RE: Kent State vs. Ohio
Defense has been good all year. The difference is that during this win streak they are shooting almost 50% from the floor (49.7%) and 41.6% on treys. Amazing what can happen when you shoot the ball well. I'm not suggesting better shooting is the sole reason for the turnaround, and a lot of shooting percentage is based upon how well a team works for good shots and passes the ball, but improved shooting is the main reason for the turnaround.

Can't argue that Muskrat. Carry has been on another planet at times and simply can't miss. I think working for good looks and % go hand in hand (at least a little).

Last night KSU limited Ohio to one shot time and time again. I would add defensive rebounding to the list.

Carry is pretty close to automatic in the mid range (another skill that the modern game undervalues). The last two games he's made a very compelling argument for jumping ahead of Sears and Rollins in the POY conversation.

Really great to see that intensity and the fans last night. Great win for players and coaching staff - now let's keep it rolling. Buffalo is a tough matchup for us - they have a good inside game. I remember when they joined the MAC we beat them like 12 straight - since then we've had a tough time. Also road trips to NIU and CMU - require we be on our game as both have improved since we lost to them at home - just ask Akron
