Exclamation Liberty Bowl Stadium
From the commercial appeal today. Read what you will from it, but...

Laird Veatch, the athletics director and vice president, will share plans on progress with the Liberty Bowl — home of Tigers football, owned by the city — "in the coming months," Rudd said.

“It's not about building a new stadium, or dramatically renovating the existing facility at the Liberty Bowl," Rudd said. "It's about the university demonstrating sustained investment in our athletic programs in an effort to join a Power Five conference."

RE: Liberty Bowl Stadium
I haven't read the entire article, but my first thought to the posted blurb was it sounds like the university is considering a purchase of the stadium.

Wasn't the stadium offered to the UofM for $1? I'll buy it for $1 and donate it to the University. :-)

This is typical of people under 50 years old, and those college-educated and steeped in corporate-speak.

Okay... so what is "IT" about? But first.... define "IT".

But I like Rudd. I ain't gonna bust on him too bad. But I hate that crap. Speak plainly, people. Let your yes be yes, and your no be no.

That's probably going to be the result. No inside info but I can see the school putting some type of sports and leisure management program in a building over there that incorporates the sportsplex and LB elements. Like the Holiday Inn is part of the hospitality school the sportsplex and LB could be hands-on learning experiences.

But we get what he's saying. "It" is impressing Power5 leagues. The Power5 leagues don't necessarily care about whether we build a new stadium or renovate the Liberty Bowl particularly. What they want to see is a commitment to investing in our athletics.

You buy it from the city for $1, then they sue you to make it fully ADA compliant.

I don't have to do that if I ban access to the public.

Geez…
Is there any wonder why the NFL dodged Memphis? We’d be offering yet another underfunded Liberty Bowl renovation & talking up sightlines & the new airport terminal.

We don't need another municipal stadium in Memphis. In fact, the city doesn't need the stadium it has now. The only party needing a stadium in Memphis is the University of Memphis. And currently the university can demonstrate no tangible investment in its FB program that will sway the B-12. Hence my concern over the announcements by USF & SMU in terms of major facilities investment while our university has been silent.

I’ve finally accepted it, we simply do not have the fanbase or the money. We’ve been passed by universities who started this football thing decades after we did, and our fate simply comes down to a lack of vision, determination & investment. We will not get in the Big 12 if we cannot demonstrate we can build a stadium & charge a premium ticket price.
