Going down memory lane, how can we forget Joel chasing this big donation to name the basketball court?

A friend who is no longer with us and I used to talk about these things off and on over the decades and it had always seemed to us that there has always been a kind of a hubris, for lack of a better word. Of course, it varied depending on the president and AD, but in general it too often seemed that the university's efforts in so many areas, especially in athletics, was merely perfunctory.

Thank you for what you have given even it is was small, I am sure it was done with a big blue and gold heart!

Hammer. That was a good one. There are others , similar that didn’t get
the same attention because they backed out before the announcement.
Others have taken gifts from Athletics and redistributed elsewhere within
the University when they demanded money back and KSU refused. They were especially interested in getting the money somewhere it would be used as the donor intended. I’ll stop there. Hoping to move forward and see some of these wrongs corrected

He (and the fundraising department) have shown their incompetence in this regard and instead are simply waiting on a white knight.

I’m also in the same boat. IMO the last AD was so focused on bagging the big whale the smaller donors were taken for granted. I’ve said a million times, if you donate $50 im going to reach out, make you feel valued and try and get you to double down to $100. If you donate $200 im going to try to get you up to say $500 and on and on and on…I don’t need my @$$ kissed, I don’t mind donating and would increase my donation levels if I felt like it mattered.

Years ago I had many great interactions with people working in the department, but sadly most of them were driven out and are working elsewhere and the new staff just don’t see the same. I was also hoping the new AD would jump right in with new ideas and firing on all cylinders, but I'm not seeing it. You’d think when you’re conducting those interviews you’re getting the candidates to answer those questions on how they’re going to boost donations and what vision they have for facilities, but again I guess not.

That’s one thing I have noticed. When Nielsen arrived all hell broke loose. Morrow and Lindsay were sent packing and there obviously was a new sheriff in town. That’s pretty typical of a new boss. This time it’s crickets. Hopefully he is thoughtfully analyzing things and the big moves are coming. I hope he is not like Warren. Make sure the student athletes like you but don’t tackle the real issues.

How about less tweeting from the AD? ODU is his former school & KSU needs to have 100% of his attention. Liking & responding to the numerous ODU tweets & among the various others is not a good look. People may say this is nitpicking, but for every moment spent on social media is a moment lost on focusing on the KSU athletic department.

Mr Flasher. Could not agree more. Too many tweets on ODU events.
It’s insulting, if ODU is so great he should have stayed in Va.
Problem with Athletics is they run it like it’s an academic test case.

It’s a business run it with a plan. If you switched jobs and kept communicating publicly with your old employer you would be unemployed . Period . I also am upset about HOF plaques handling. Charging HOF’ers to get their
Plaques which were removed, ridiculous. KSU has little respect for history and tradition. It’s a shame.

Sidebar: No more #FlashFAST on the end of tweets, replaced with #TheHunt.

If I had to guess, this means slowing things down a bit to balance things out and help Defense. Anyone else have any thoughts?

There's a video on Facebook videos. It says, "Everybody wants to eat, but only a few are willing to hunt." Seems like some kind of weight room motivational thing. I couldn't copy the link. Type - Kent State #thehunt - in Google.

Nice game to schedule, easy location we can get to as fans. With the $900k hopefully the school can buy a snowblower so our coaches won’t have to continue shoveling snow. 03-wink

Wagner on Staten Island is a very low FCS school.
Checking their past schedules they have losses to DII schools.
We could have scheduled a more competitive
FCS school but that of course costs $$$
1-24 last 3 years including one abbreviated season
Last year 69-7 loss to Buffalo

Good point, they play in a weak FCS conference with a limited amount of scholarships. Additionally, games against those schools are limited in counting towards bowl eligibility, so scheduling this games makes zero sense. So many other more competitive FCS games they could have scheduled instead of Wagner and LIU in back to back seasons.

No more than one win against an FCS team may count toward that win total, and only if the FCS team has awarded at least 90% of the scholarships that FCS rules allowed it to award over the last two years (Currently, that means that wins against Ivy League, Georgetown, Pioneer Football League, and some Northeast Conference teams do not count.) The requirement that the FCS team must have awarded 90% of its allowed scholarships may be waived if a "unique or catastrophic situation" prevented the FCS team from meeting that requirement.

Hammer. Good info. So beating the crap out of Wagner could hurt us more than a competitive loss to a P5 team.
Why not play Youngstown, Towson , James Madison , etc.
Thanks for sharing the facts.

I like the odds against those two teams. That's the caliber of teams we should be playing if they can't get the Illinois and BCs of the world.

RE: Future Football Schedules
James Madison is transitioning to FBS this coming season, but yes there are a handful of competitive FCS programs to schedule if that’s what you’re after. I remember back in the day when we were losing to Youngstown State. With our usual 3 bodybag/payday games we need to make sure our 1 OOC game is a win but also counts if we wish to be in the hunt for a bowl game.

PS: nice additions to the 2024 schedule with Pitt and Tennessee.

Yeah, that was sickening losing games to YSU, and to Akron when they were 1-AA. A win against an FCS team counts towards bowl eligibility, but only one per season.
