RE: Covid Things
The kimono is finally opening. About time these reports start seeing the light of day. #bamboozled

Quote:NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — This week, the Metro Health Department reported 707 patients with COVID-19 in Nashville-area hospitals, but there may be something not reflected in that number.

“We’re similar to several other reports that have been done in other cities (and) Canada, where there are a lot of people in the hospital with COVID, but it’s incidental, meaning that they had a heart attack, they had a stroke, they were in a car accident, they got taken to a hospital. Everybody that goes into the hospital is being tested these days for COVID. They’re found to be positive, but they’re not there because of their COVID,” said Metro Health Director Dr. Gill Wright.

Ron DeathSantis is not a Navy Seal! He was an Attorney for JAG and he was a legal advisor to the Navy Seals. He never went through Navy Seal Training thus he isn't a Navy Seal. He is an Ivy Leaguer who graduated from Yale and Harvard Law School and an Elitist!

So is he an alternative isle version of Obama? His mom was a nurse and his dad a TV repairman...must have been born with a silver spoon. Was captain of his Yale baseball team (+ marks for being an athlete) and seems to be an overachiever all around.

Worked his way up the food chain and graduated magna *** laude from Yale and Juris Doctor *** laude from Harvard...6 years of active duty and then on reserves thereafter. Currently serving as a Governor, married with 3 kids (wife currently dealing with breast cancer)...seems like a positive role model.

DeSantis oversaw detainees, making sure they were treated humanely,
and also monitored missions of Navy SEALs and Army Green Berets in
his jurisdiction, making sure they followed the rule of law.

While in Iraq, DeSantis worked to protect the rights of around 100
detainees, and made sure any interrogations followed US military rules
as well as the Geneva Conventions.

Thorleifson told the Tampa Bay Times that DeSantis became "one of
my very close counsels," and that he had a lot of respect for DeSantis.
"He was super smart, articulate, resourceful and a positive part of the
staff. I relied on him heavily," Capt. Thorleifson told the outlet.

Smart guys stay in their lane...talk with your doctor and understand the pros / cons based on your personal medical history. A politician shouldn't be giving medical advice IMHO.

I'd never fault someone for giving the medical advice to talk to one's doctor. But we have a State Health Department for a reason. The Governor oversees that department. If they come to him and say "hey, we have a problem, our hospitals are flooded and our population has low vaccination rates. A lot of them are your supporters. You should speak to them about the benefits" then there's nothing wrong with a Governor giving out medical advice. Trump's right, it's cowardly to not tell your constituents the truth about vaccination status. Transparency is one of the most fundamental traits I think we'd all like to see more of on Capital Hill.

Or, similarly to how DeWine handled it, let the Director of the State Department of Health speak directly to the people.

RE: Covid Things
So a few weeks after running off the doctor who warned of this exact thing happening...hospitals in Hamilton county are flooded with Covid again. The national guard is helping staff ICUs and EDs. Elective procedures, including those related to cancer, are being delayed again. For months now the leaders of our local hospitals have been pleading for people to be careful, get vaccinated, etc. Instead, Ohio has the 43rd worst vaccination rate. Our ICU's have more patients than any point in the pandemic. Most of these hospitalizations and deaths could be prevented with 15 minutes at CVS.

What a huge fail for the guy who said he would end COVID.

Just horrible, inexcusably incompetent leadership.

It's too bad that no one saw that coming03-lmfao

This exchange from a few pages back kinda sums up this thread. Anti-vaxxer in arctic fortress calls ICU doctor a fear porn surfer. ICU doctor says F this thread, I'm out. 3 weeks later, the predictions and concerns of said ICU doctor occur.

Seemingly nice people that live in an arctic fortress of solitude will tell you all the shutdowns were unnecessary. People that worry too much will tell you we still need to be more careful. I don't even argue any more with patients or families that tell me it is not real or accuse our ICU team of using the CDC death protocol. Water off my back now.

A highly contagious variant seems to be coming down the pipe, and we are doing almost nothing to contain spread. If it really is less virulent and as contagious as it seems to be, might be a quiet early spring for me and my coworkers.

Don’t be one of the fear porn surfers that sound sad about Omicron not being Captain Trips from The Stand. I’m sure you’ll still have a job if Omicron is only as virulent as is being discussed. You’ll still have work when the “winter of sickness and death” subsides.

BTW: I love that they held off on this speech and announcement about stuff they dismissed 2 weeks ago until the Winter solstice. A+ for dramatic effect. Lol

In Siesta Key Florida working on my tan, kiddo. No masks, no shut downs, no liberal governors freaking out and everyone seems to be doing just groovy down here.

It’s refreshing watching local news with no Covid fear porn.

No non stop PSA commercials. Come to think of it, this thread is the first time I’ve heard the word Covid since I left the Traverse City Airport last week.

Today the AMA released a statement saying that the CDC’s Covid guidelines are confusing and need to be revised.

Another case of what us uneducated schleps have been saying for the last two years and getting criticized for doing so.

Let's talk some realities; health care workers being let go for not taking the vaccine (weird that health care professionals won't take it). Replaced by more inexperienced people in the Guard and other health care professionals which (LOL) don't need to be vaccinated.

This article states many patients hospitalized for other ailments are also testing positive for Covid, so COVID isn't why they're hospitalized but it does continue the fear.

Quote:“I’ve admitted patients with abdominal pain, I’ve admitted patients with chest pain who had no symptoms of respiratory illness, cough or Covid, and they just ended up being Covid positive,” said Dr. Rahul Sharma, the emergency physician-in-chief for the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-ne...-rcna11247

This article states that a new study suggests that almost half of those hospitalized with COVID-19 have mild or asymptomatic cases.

Quote:The federal government requires hospitals to report every patient who tests positive for COVID, yet the overall tallies of COVID hospitalizations, made available on various state and federal dashboards and widely reported on by the media, do not differentiate based on severity of illness. Some patients need extensive medical intervention, such as getting intubated. Others require supplemental oxygen or administration of the steroid dexamethasone. But there are many COVID patients in the hospital with fairly mild symptoms, too, who have been admitted for further observation on account of their comorbidities, or because they reported feeling short of breath.

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archi...ng/620062/

Last an article from SLATE states CDC Updates Guidelines to Make Clear Cloth Masks Offer Least Protection Against COVID. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022...covid.html

Something many on here have stated with much wailing and gnashing of teeth by those who would enforce mandates on the general population.

My advice; consult your trusted physician and make an informed decision. Live your life. Florida has clearly pointed the way. If this wasn't about politics or of FL governor were a (D) everyone would sing their handling of everything.

Also important to note about FL the choices are given to YOU. You want your kid to wear a mask at school? OK, no one stops you. School board mandates your kid wear a mask? Nope, not going to happen.

This is gaslighting. I criticized you for suggesting we could abolish the CDC. That's not the same as the (completely valid) criticism the CDC receives from health professionals, especially in regards to their public messaging.
