...UAB to jump to the AAC in 2022?
...from the Sun Belt smack board, it appears that the 3 C-USA teams heading there, as well as FCS call-up James Madison, are all going to be in the Sun Belt next season...

...and with that, I've seen a few folks (somewhere amongst these boards - I can't recall where at this moment - sorry) that UAB MAY be looking to go on and jump to the AAC for the 2022 season (or even better, the AAC is looking
to bring us in early) - it WOULD 'even out' things, leaving 10 teams in C-USA, and adding to 12 teams in the AAC, at least for 2022...

...realistically, it's MOST likely not in the cards, as I'm sure the $$$$ is a major hinderance... but just throwing it out there to see if y'all had heard anything to this effect...

RE: ...UAB to jump to the AAC in 2022?
First, there isn’t any sources but I believe. ODU, USM and Marshall will announce before March they will play football in the Sunbelt in 2022. James Madison announced it will only play eight football games in 2022. This means they can join the Sunbelt in 2023.
UAB could lose two big home games Marshall and USM.I believe C-USA will pressure UAB to play JSU. JSU is the weakest entry into C-USA but I believe is a brilliant addition. Eastern Kentucky will probably be announced as a C-USA member this year bringing it to ten members. The C-USA baseball tournament is in jeopardy if USM leaves. ESPN is really crippling C-USA revenge are cheap programming either way it’s what it is. C-USA will get payouts sooner and may negotiate with the six teams going to the AAC. UAB will win a lot this coming year. This is what I believe much speculation and no source’s welcome to 2022.

I find this plausible, but not sure it can happen. If the 3 Sun Belt bound teams leave, C-USA would potentially have uneven membership even if Liberty and New Mexico State are able to work out logistics to come on now. American has never replaced UConn so they currently do not have divisions.

Theoretically, would seem there’s one spot open and I think UAB is probably best positioned to move if the AAC wanted to do it. I don’t think it will happen but …

It would be pretty awesome to slide into the AAC East a year early.

UAB
Cincinnati
UCF
USF
Temple
East Carolina

Navy
Memphis
Tulane
SMU
Tulsa
Houston

Imagine a schedule like this!

Alabama State
At Liberty
Georgia Southern
Cincinnati
At Temple
At UCF
Memphis
USF
At Navy
Tulane
At LSU
At East Carolina

Would be awesome but I don't see it happening. Though it would be cool to add NMSU, Liberty & Jax St in basketball for one season before UAB's departure.

RE: ...UAB to jump to the AAC in 2022?
The Sun Belt schools all got to vote on their new additions. The six CUSA-AAC moving schools had no vote on CUSA's additions; if I'm a stakeholder I'm going to be deeply unhappy with the Sam Houston Institute of Technology, Falwell School of Pool Cleaning and JustShowUp on the conference schedule and sharing revenue.

I'd rather spend a year playing all five other moving schools twice in football and four times in basketball in a temporary independent scheduling alliance. But I suspect adding schools without existing members having had a voice would void parts of the bylaws including the exit fees. So maybe I could live with playing those dumpster fires if it screws LaTech out of cash.

That’s not hard to imagine, just have to go back in time about 15 years to CUSA version 1.0. The OG CUSA would make a “P5” conference today, since half of those schools are now in “P5” conferences.

Everyone that is moving, wants the move to happen ASAP. UAB would like to join the AAC while Cincinnati and Houston are still there, they would like to move to the Big 12 while Texas and OU are still there, and Texas and OU will jump ship before they play in a conference with those schools.

If Memphis and SMU are short lived for the AAC, the best UAB can hope for is to get a few seasons back with Memphis before that move happens.

Don't see this happening. While there are strong rumblings of the Sunbelt bound schools joining for 2022, I don't think the AAC bound schools are. UCF and the AAC haven't released the full schedules but we've already released our home schedule for season ticket renewals back in November. And the AAC portion of it happens to be all the AAC teams we played on the road last year. So it's a pretty safe bet our AAC road schedule will be all the teams we played at home and that schedules are set already for all the AAC.

I don't see us moving in 22. I hope it's soon guaranteed we move in 23.

The diploma mill who hired Baylor's rape-enabling AD and punishes rape victims for reporting their assault? Any accurate description won't get past the profanity filter, so "reeking pile of poop" will have to do.

Unfortunately, regardless of conference jump, I think we have that “steaming pile of poop” on our schedule.

I do find it funny that we had 2 of the new CUSA additions on our schedule last season. UAB was ahead of the curve I guess

SBC had room. 3 AAC teams moving up are blocked by UT & OU not going to SEC until 2023

If the 3 SBC bound members leave in ‘22, does CUSA add one new member to go to 12, or do they add 3 to go back to 14? Or does it stay at 11 for a season?

CUSA could be very interesting in ‘22.

...most likely will stay at 11 - between the two indys and the two 'call-ups', not sure if either situation will be ready for '22 - Indys have a full slate of teams they would have to cancel - well, at least half of the games - which would be pretty expensive (I know Liberty is reported to have a somewhat 'limitless supply' of money, but still they would probably not want to shell out more than they need to) - and Jax St and Sam (Houston, not Ford... 03-drunk) are still in that 'transitional' deal, which happens in '22... the A-Sun is a bit less 'tricky' to get out of, with only 6-7 members, but still might be too much of a jump...

Until further notice, OU and Tejas will be in the Big XII until 2025.

With any luck for you guys, the Big 12 won’t add until UT and OU leave, and the AAC will go ahead and add you guys in 2023, give you two seasons back with Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. But not sure how the AAC adds all the CUSA teams before those 3 leave. Would get awfully crowded over there.
