RE: Penny stinks.
Why fire Penny. He’s an amazing recruiter. Eventually this will come together. No offense but I would rather watch talented players get beat then the mess we had under Tubby. Memphis will be back but this year has been difficult. As good as the guys were at the end of last year there really is no reason for it unless the veterans aren’t willing to step up for the newbies. Penny is a genuine coach who loves his players. Why would Harris come back unless he knew Penny was always in his corner? Play basketball for fun….. quit listening to all this crap and this team could be special. Penny saved Memphis bball in a lot of ways. He’s recruited top tier talent. He will figure it out. Why fire the guy? He loves Memphis
…. Bleeds blue and white so why trash him? Even if it takes 10 years this guy is special. The talent he can convince to come here. In adversity the Phx rises…. This team has a lot of potential. Ride or die…. They need us just like we love to watch them win. Whether it happens or not these kids could mud stomp any opponent on any given night. Of course they also could get beat. Exciting to know they could win any game. Personally I hope it works out for Penny. No one will ever love the school and Memphis like him

Great second post in 10 years and you don’t even know the school’s colors? You aren’t very good at trolling.

RE: Penny stinks.
Penny is learning, he’s hardheaded, but he’s learning, the biggest mistake he made this year is not having a “good one or two” point guards, he has the other pieces, it took Cal about four years before he got going good, josh came in behind cal, had talent and added some talent and it why down hill after that, penny has the talent, knows how to get the talent, he just has to learn how to coach the talent, hopefully things will change when the East kids leave, but for now, they are not going to fire Penny because some posters on a board want too, penny is a “cash” cow, he has to get it together , they are not going to do penny like they did Larry years ago, he would have to leave on his own, the university has more bigger problems than Penny Hardaway

How has this clown not been banned?
Hardaway is a poor coach. Hardaway has done more the University of Memphis than you would ever do in a thousand lifetimes. You exist simply to exult in our failures.
I'll bet our loss yesterday gave you a solid half hour of bliss in the bathroom.

Yes a troll
Nonetheless
He is learning
He was stubborn
He made inexplicable wrong decisions
He recognizes being short of players but doesn’t handle that well
Team has under performed anyway but the injuries specifically cost the Tulane and ECU game and team still could have won them with better coaching decisions
Even bad D1 competition is too good for any relaxation and Penny does that too often. Defining relaxing by not paying attention to a detail like back to back plays running through Dandridge or allowing kids to walk and not run
Painful part is how capable they are when focused an entire game
VT struggling but that was a nice win
Alabama
Dominating WSU on the road
Cincy, remember they made 16 threes fer crissake
If for example Nolley is only hampered (if it is more so be it) he needs these young athletes to contribute. Not asking to make an injury worse just asking to recognize that minor injuries happen and when the team will be 4-5 players down maybe if they are able they need to play

Ole Miss is struggling.
Murray State is struggling.

RE: Penny stinks.
Likes to argue guy I see
The one period during the season where the team simply badly under performed without injuries etc was in that hideous stretch right after Iowa State
That would include Mississippi, Georgia and Murray
But if it makes you feel better you can now argue that the Mississippi, Georgia and Murray games were bad, because I guess because people like to mock when the same point was already made

RE: Penny stinks.
Even though I think Penny is a weak coach, he does recruit - although the one position he needs worse than any - PG, he hasn't been able to get it done. I think he can but I honestly think he's been protecting Alo's minutes. All this to say, as long as Penny can recruit I think we should keep him here. Maybe he'll learn to coach & make the tough personnel decisions best for the team. If recruiting falls off, it will be time to find a real coach.

RE: Penny stinks.
He will always recruit, it’s about who he recruits, we do not need anymore kids reclassifying this young in age to play college ball, upper class men take that as a insult and play the kids tough, we need to do what school like Iowa State did, it’s not about the coach, it’s about the upper class men that they get to play for them, 4 and 5 stars are a thing of the past, you mite have one kid good out the group, the rest are average, you really have “two” this year, the one at Auburn” and the one at “ Duke” that’s it, it is what it is, again penny will always recruit

RE: Penny stinks.
As a coach so far Penny stinks. You are correct about that. Penny has earned more time in many ways and should not be fired, he is a red blooded American and his veins are striped blue and gray. If however he does not improve soon, and if his team does not become more entertaining and less frustrating he will lose much more support. At this point it is up to Penny to find the corrections to his bad coaching. If he fails he will end up gone. At this point he has become almost as much a liability as Tubby Smith. This is sad and is not something for anyone to crow about.

RE: Penny stinks.
It occurs to me that maybe is such a bad offensive coach because he never got a lot of offensive coaching during his career. Maybe he is a better defensive coach because that was what his coaches worked with him on the most. He really needs to concentrate upon his offensive coaching. He hired the right man to teach him It doesn't appear that Larry Brown isn't doing his job, or maybe Penny just doesn't get it. Either way something has got to give.
