Taran Armstrong from Cal Bap is 4th in assists at 7.2 pg
Blaze Nield from Utah Valley is just behind Trammell at 5.1 assists
3 pointers made, Cameron Tyson from Seattle is in the top 20 with 48.
Gibson from Tarleton now leads D1 is minutes played after playing every minute last week. He was second at the beginning of last week.
Not sure if this is a stat we are proud of.

Stephen F Austin leads the nation in turnovers per game with 18.4.
Chicago State and Utah Valley are also top 20 with 16 per game.
California Baptist is 2nd in assists per game with 19.1
Grand Canyon ranks 3rd with 46.9 rebounds, Utah Valley has 43.3, and CBU and Chicago State are both up there with 41 and 39.
As raw numbers, some of the WAC programs are putting up some good stats. However, there are a lot of stats that play a factor in others. Rebounding, Field Goal Percentage, and number of scoring possessions all work hand in hand. If a team shoots a good percentage and plays a slower pace, there are less total rebounds to be had in game. On the other hand, if a team keeps their opponent to a low shooting percentage, that generates more rebounds. I think rebound margin is a better indicator of a team's dominance on the boards.
Very true. All pieces of the puzzle I suppose. All the stats are enlightening, but what they are shedding light on can be more obscured.

As long as he doesn’t get burnt out by the end of the year. Some players are just built to play every minute of every game. It would be nice to have a few where you can get him a half where he could rest up a bit.

Fardaws is averaging about what Jemerrio Jones was averaging in rebounds. But I doubt anyone would say Fardaws is a better rebounder than JJ.

They are different style rebounders. The 6'11 Fardaws Aimaq (13.8 rpg) camps out under the basket and chisels out a space where his long arms can nab rebounds. The 6'5 Jemerrio Jones (13.2 rpg) snaked through the paint and chases down rebounds all over the court. Jones could rebound outside of his area because he was cat quick and had quick hops. He had the highest motor on the court. Aimaq dams up most of the rebounds coming off the rim. The big advantage for Jones was he could grab the defensive rebound and start NMSU fastbreak off the dribble; has he was an excellent ball-handler and facilitator. He led NMSU in rebounding, assists, and steals. And was selected the 2018 WAC Player of the Year. Aimaq is the consummate big man and as we all know, the 2021 WAC Player of the Year.

His Senior year, Jemario was absolutely on fire and had 20+ rebounds numerous times. His Junior year, just as often, Eli Chua out rebounded him. Some of it was their role, but most of it was Jemario hustle and improvement from one year to the next.
Either way, I think Jemario and Fardaws frequently were simply getting different rebounds from different parts of the court. I'm not sure which I would say is better.
But I know one thing Aimaq has, and that was the highest rebounding average in 40 years of D1 basketball, so its tough to say JJ was better. Close tho.

The coaching change and team demands put Jemerrio Jones in the forefront of Jans' system. Jemerrio was also a dominant rebounder in Junior College (13.3 rpg); rank 2nd nationally in JC ball. But it was Chuha's offensive strength and his familiarity with Menzies/Weir's system that put him in the starting lineup over Jones. And, it was Chuha's lack of defensive fundamentals that put him on the bench in lieu of Jones in Jans system. If Weir had played Jones over Chuha, his Junior year, I have no doubt Jones would have grabbed as many if not more rebounds than Chuha. With regards to rebounding, it is instinctual for Jones. It can't be taught.

Set me straight on this please. You say he’s 2nd in rebounding at 13.8 and has the highest rebounding average in 40 years. Wouldn’t that title go to the player that is in 1st place?

Aimaq is 2nd in rebounding this season. However, last season as a RS Freshman, Aimaq averaged 15.0 rpg which was the highest rebounding average in 40 years. If Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe can maintain his 15.1 rpg average this season, he will supplant Aimaq's rebound average from last season.

Seattle Rallies back in the second half to beat UVU... 71-65. Seattle's guards took over the game. Cam Tyson with 25 pts. and Darrion Trammell with 20 pts. UVU really needs Trey Woodbury back.
Dixie State surprises CBU in Riverside... 79-76. Cameron Gooden led all scores with 26 points. CBU is struggling without freshman phenom Taran Armstrong.

The UVU game is a little more of a surprise to me than Dixie. Seattle has a lot of talent, if you don't contain their scorers, they can win games. But neither team shot the lights out, by any stretch. A game of mini runs.
Nice road win for Dixie. They are gelling and become more consistent finally. CBU early schedule was pretty soft. Not sure their win total so far is indicative of a stellar team necessarily. They are now 1-4 in their latest D1 games since mid December.
I didn't know Taran was out, but with or without him, I'm still taking Utah Valley on Saturday.

CBU seemed to hand Dixie the victory last night. CBU was up by 8 with less than 90 seconds left in the game. They proceeded to give up 11 straight points by caving to the full court pressure and by turning the ball over when they did get it past half court. They likely would have won that game if they had Taran. They certainly could have used his ball handling & passing skills down the stretch.

I think they ran out of gas getting there. CBU was actually down by about 10 and went on a tear over the last 5-7 minutes. Its almost like Dixie just regrouped and took it back. Ty Rowells fancy moves and taking over the game only worked so long. At some point, someone else also had to be involved.
Cal Bap coughed the ball up time after time under Dixies press in the final couple minutes, even though they only had 4 turnovers in the first 38.

The announcers for the CSU UTRGV game pointed out that the Chicago State bench is as loud as the entire crowd in the fieldhouse. Good on the Cougars and bad on the UTRGV fans.

Sadly that's been an issue all year. They aren't going to fix it, it seems.
