Not discounting that number as being more traditionally determined commuter though. Was down in Houston for a conference a few years back and was shocked at how few residence halls there were on and around campus.

While our dorm capacity is relatively small given the total enrollment, I was told by a UC official (probably 15 years ago), that we had about 10,000 students living on, or within walking distance, of campus. That was largely the result of the beginnings of an Uptown, off-campus student housing boom that has only accelerated this past decade. I think data collection on this is sketchy at best but historically the measure of commuter population was probably estimated as full-time enrollment minus dorm capacity. Now we've seen the addition of large, multi-unit apartments in Clifton Heights, Avondale, and Corryville.

I'm not familiar with Houston's campus or neighborhood but I've always suspected UH had a much higher commuter population than UC. In part, that could account for the poor attendance we see when viewing its televised basketball and football games. I think our student engagement with Bearcat sports is light years ahead of theirs.

Defining commuter by total - dorm is so outdated. For example, my daughter graduated from Ohio U. and lived in an apartment after the freshman year dorm requirement. Very common at OU. She sure was not a commuter.

Saturday after the Cotton Bowl we went by the TCU campus and checked out their facilities; I had been there previously but my sons had not. Aaron Carter Stadium, home of the Horned Frogs seats 47,000 so Nippert isn't that far off. There isn't a lot of room to expand but there are some opportunities for revenue.

I'd like to see UC add luxury boxes to the end zone(s). You could easily keep the character behind the student section by incorporating the current building in the structure. At the opposite end above the Bearcat Lair you could add the luxury boxes above.

Three stadiums I have been to that have done an excellent job with the end zone seating:

Louisville: https://cardinalathleticfund.com/sports/...emium.aspx

Vanderbilt: https://vucommodores.com/fb-premium-seating/

Mizzou: https://tsfmizzou.com/sports/2019/6/14/m...ating.aspx

I would like to see UC get to 44-45K with about 3k SRO. UC has to be ready for the next round of expansion just in case B12 goes the way of the BE.

Along with that comes the need for more parking, more restrooms, more concessions, and open concourses. Going above 45,000 will make getting those things done that much tougher and more expensive.

And I'd like to know the specifics of how Houston had $8.5 million in ticket revenue.

Makes no sense.

UH $8,500,000 divided by attendance 151,618 = $56.06
UC $4,100,000 divided by attendance 223,388 = $18.35

That means 3 times the revenue per ticket. Does not pass the smell test.

Attendance figures are per Wiki.

70,000 of those seats pay $0 to attend games at Nippert. We also charge WAYYYYYY less than we should as far as normal tickets are concerned.

I think 50,000 of those are 10.00 per. (Pretty sure they sold out of the 5000 student season tickets at $70.00 (10 per game with the conference championship)...also may be a little more because some students may have bought the guest student season tickets for $20.00 per game.).... but yea, those are pretty cheap.
If I take out 50,000 @$10 the results become $3,600,000/173,388 or $20.76

UH $56.06 UC $20.76 MAKES NO SENSE!

Could it be that UH does not include the required donations to buy better tickets?

The consensus has moved to on campus + all full-time in person students with permanent residency from outside of 50 miles + all students from inside of 50 miles with temporary addresses different from permanent addresses.

My allusion was to the calculation you mention being outdated as something that an exceeding old professor may utilize to identify "commuter" students...so that 85% may be off (although as I said, they had an eerily small amount of on/near campus residences).

Is there really no way to renovate the north endzone? I know people talk about infrastructure constraints but isn't the space under the Bearcat lair section the visiting locker room? I feel like you could redo that entire endzone with premium suites, maybe somehow connected to the rec center building behind for access to campus.

I'm probably in the minority here, but if we could find a way to add 2,000 to 3,000 seats in that north end zone AND improve amenities, I'd be fine with calling it good.

I'd hate for them to ruin the lair. Best bathrooms, view, and food in the whole place. Best kept secret in Cincinnati Sports.

Yeah, NW corner. You go down a set of stairs and the men's room has about 30-40 urinals and 15 stalls. Best bathroom setup in the stadium. There is a complete café right behind the seats too.

Yep. I sit on the East side of the stadium but always walk over if I have to take a leak. There is never a wait.

Much to the chagrin of many posters on here...the likely (and most sensible) expansion/improvement of Nippert is filling in the north endzone, likely with premium seating as many other colleges have done, and completely rebuilding Shank to accommodate more common man seating with a more significant relief and concessions plaza (maybe by way of the parking garage underneath the Tennis Courts) on the eastern side of the stadium.

I would be fairly surprised if the tennis courts don't move from their current location when/if Nippert is worked on again. They are in the most inconvenient place and are relatively easily moved (hell, they could even simply move to the Sheakley Lawn or even Armory if need be).

I do not get the idea of premium endzone seat. Great view half the game, crappy the other half. I would think premium club seats above Shank would be better.

I hope any additions can be done without having to move to PBS for a year (YUK!).

The All-22 crazies like me would love a suite with an endzone view...completely different way to see the game. Plus, if you have TVs with the broadcast angle, whats the harm. There clearly is a market for them as Louisville, Texas, USM, Missouri, Utah, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, UCF, and TCU to name a few have either completed or announced intent to add premium endzone seating.

I've always wondered why more coaches are in the press box and not in some endzone level perspective

I always say Football video games are always done from the endzone view for a reason. It's the best way to see what's really happening.

I'm probably really in the minority, but I am happy with them doing almost nothing.

In-person attendance is going to continue to shrink as the home viewing experience continues to improve. In stadium revenue is going to continue to drop in comparison to media rights. Keep the place filled by keeping a large student affordable area, increase things like Wi-Fi, bathrooms and concessions, and if demand increases charge like heck for the rest of the seats.

That's the beauty of the lair. Even on the other side of the field, I think I'm still closer to the action than you are in the suite. It's set up higher, for a nice view, and I'm right on the field. It's literally the best seat I've sat in anywhere. No where else has anything like it.

When I started making real money, I actually thought about buying suite seats, just because I could. After thinking about it, I would much rather be where I'm at. So maybe, the suites are coming to me.
