Btw- Nick Saban has Been at Alabama 14 years and has had 8 offensive coordinators, their current OC was interviewing for jobs between the SEC championship game and the cotton bowl, others have done the same — their offense seems to be fine—

RE: Randy Fichtner
Randy wanted the head coaching job at Memphis back when he was QB coach at Pittsburgh (Rothlisberger) He is 58 now and since he worked three years as the OC at Pittsburgh he will be getting another NFL gig and will make more than Ryan Silverfield does now. If he were to somehow apply: Hire Him! Not likely.

Cincinnati built the team they had this year because they kept the same OC and DC for four straight years.

The seniors on that team played under one DC and two OC their entire career.

Our seniors this year will have played under 4 different DC and 3 OC.

Recruits want to see stability in the staff.

Thats a lie Cincinnati's defensive coordinator left last year they made the playoffs with a new coordinator but keep saying dumb things.

The OU QB apparently wanted some stability. First his team announced it was changing leagues, then his coach who he came to play for announced he was going to USC. So he announced he's looking around for HIS best situation too. Stability does matter to virtually everyone.

Not listed in Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Don't have to read Maslow to understand human nature. But I'd think it's somehow related to safety in his general categories.

I considered safety but it's a little vague.

Why not Justin Fuente? We did improve our running game under him and he did get Darrell Henderson to sign his letter for us.

He should reevaluate his life. He could have been King of Memphis but chose the risk of not being a head coach again. He probably won't be seeing a decent head coaching gig for awhile. Mike Norvell is on the chopping block if doesn't perform well next year. Losing the #1 recruit to JSU is his biggest blackeye.

I hear he won't take another college job that requires recruiting.

This is true. Once you get into that nfl network you basically have a job for life. Look at Richard Williamson

Well... hold up on the car wash... Let's get real. If he went 8-4, and then 6-6 a couple of years, he would be on the hot-seat here just like Silverfield is currently. Or at least criticized by the fan base like Silverfield is currently.

He's got a really nice house there and they also own a condo on the beach. At least they did a few years ago.

Silverfield is NOT on the hot seat, but he hs gotten some criticism from some fans

Fuente will not succeed as a head coach until he decides that recruiting is important, he may have had difficulty here if he had stayed a few more years due to his lack of recruiting and stellar personality (guys like him better win big becasue he does not engreciate himself to most people_)

Fuente would not come to Memphis as an assistant coach, I ASSuMe the one who suggested that knows this already

At an age where he may be looking for a job where he can coast till retirement.

Could be a great fit for OC.

I don’t think we are interested in an offensive coordinator who is looking to “coast” at anything. We need someone who is quite the opposite - hungry and willing to go all in.

Besides - Randy is very well set already with his retirement package from the NFL.

IE: is already interviewing for a better job before he even steps in the door.

WE HAVE GOT TO GET SOME STABILITY IN COORDINATORS.

Prior to this season, Cincinnati had the same OC and DC for 4 years.

The previous DC was also there for 4 years.

G5 schools can be successful and maintain staff.

If you can get a successful OC who actually wants to be here and is not just looking for stepping stone to another job you hire him.

If you had not posted stupid ideas constantly over the years I would think you are trolling. Normally, Nobody ignores facts and logic like this post , but I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you are NOT trolling.

I’m not against hiring Fichtner, just the stupid as hell idea of hiring coordinators that want to coast and not go anywhere else.

When is the last time we hired a football coordinator or even head coach that you had heard of before they came here?

Tommy West, and he was good until the triple bypass, and subsequent heart medications.

RIP hired Tommy West as DC 21 years ago, that's the last one that was successful here but he was only DC one year , then he was Head Coach- replacing the guy that hired him.

I had heard of Mike Debose who was hired 10 years ago, bit sure if he was DC or just D-line coach--- word was =he was undermining the head coach while he was on the staff -- the Dubose hire was NOT a successful one

I don’t know if that’s even remotely possible, but in three years here he could earn what would take the next twelve years at Denton Ryan. I believe he’s in his early fifties, so he could spend that lifetime doing something else. Or not.
