Anyone expect a win tonight?
I am hopeful and believe we really need this game. But I can't say that I "expect" to win. I will need to see a couple of wins before my expectations for this season change significantly.

Not without Gordon.

RE: Anyone expect a win tonight?
Not sure what got into us the last 10 minutes but it was a great win for us last night. The paper reported that GaSou was short 2 starters and low on players overall due to Covid. So they may have tired at the end. Still, I'm not shedding tears for them considering what our team has been through. I'm just glad we stepped up and took advantage of the situation, in a game that was looking like a sure loss.

Well, I now "expect" to win at Monroe next week. Winning a road game at ULL is another story.

RE: Anyone expect a win tonight?
I heard Myron Gardner looked good. Nikola looks like he is back to normal. CJ White has renewed confidence and swagger. We know big Marco can shoot it. Isaiah has been solid. I think our young point guards have potential. Boy, I would love to have DeAntonio back, but I am starting to think we might be okay. I'm not sure if "okay" means .500 in the league or somewhat better, but after Jacksonville State I was feeling like finishing at the bottom was very possible.

Just watched the game. Gardner looked like someone who was seeing his first action of the season. He was a much needed extra body. Dont know why DJ didn't play much. Maybe just a match-up deal. GS put a much taller defender on him in the first half. What was Berg's problem after the game when he started mouthing off at Walker.

Maybe he was sad he had 19 unanswered points put on them. Walker could have said something the coach did not appreciate which has occurred in the past.

I also just watched the replay of the game. Enjoyed it more knowing it was going to be a win. I too noticed the conversation between Coach Burg & Coach Walker on the replay which I missed at the game.

Just a guess, but it might have been about Walker not just having his team dribble out the shot clock when there would have only been a second or so to play with a 10 point lead instead of trying to score. Most would consider that a lack of sportsmanship.

Everybody here thinks Newell hung the moon and Newell said its your job to keep me from scoring. If you can't, well you might be in the wrong profession.

That is maybe a good example of why you think Walker is a great guy!

I don't recall anyone complaining about sportsmanship when we beat champion Christian 115-51 or arkansas Baptist 91-60. As I recall we were shooting 3s with less than a minute to play in those games.

You just don’t get it do you! It is one thing to play your style of game in the course of the game, and even with less than a minute when you have cleared your bench to allow walk-ons, etc to play, but an entirely different matter to try to score with your starters when you have the ball up 10 and can basically dribble the game out. It’s what is called sportsmanship!

RE: Anyone expect a win tonight?
Personally, I think this "sportsmanship" at the end of games has gotten ridiculous. Been following basketball for close to 60 years and never remember this being done until the last decade or so. I stay until the end of the game, why shouldn't the players play until the end as well? Now teams who get the ball back with 32 seconds left, and a sizeable lead, just dribble it out and give the ball back to the other team. Just play the damn game! If a walk-on, like Terrell Curtis, finally gets in a game what's wrong with him taking a shot with 5 or 10 seconds left? He only gets a few chances, during the whole season to do so, and it is a "thrill" for him, his family, and his teammates if he knocks it down. Who cares if you win (or lose) by 10 or 12, 20 or 22? Anyway, the other team's subs should be working on their defense, as well, if they get on the court.

PTJR- I just reread your post and note that you did make an exception for when subs/walkons are in the game. I just have gotten annoyed with players letting the shot clock purposely run out and then giving the ball back to the other team with seconds still left in the game. To me that seems more "demeaning" to the other team- "I could score on you, if I wanted to, but I'm not even going to try".

I agree. I don't see it being unsportsmanlike. If anything, I think Burg was just frustrated by the result of the game and just found something to get mad at. I respect him a lot and honestly I understand putting frustration on something that's not worth getting mad about. It happens.

Still better than how Balado has behaved in the past (no offense stAte fans)

Well, if you think it’s sportsmanlike to wait until the end of the shot clock that would leave one second on the clock and then drive the hoop like Little Rock did, you better be ready to take a really hard foul. Because, no matter what fans may think, the team that was in Georgia Southern’s position isn’t going to appreciate it. If they wanted to extend the game, they would have tried for a steal and/or fouled. They didn’t and had conceded the game, so you don’t do what Little Rock did. Complete lack of class, but not surprising.

Didn't see the end so I really can't comment. Your description makes it sound unnecessary like a football team running it in from the one-yard line, rather than taking a knee, when a game has been decided and time will run out. Although if you are saying there was one second left on the shot clock, and a little more on the game clock, I would support shooting the ball.

One second left on shot clock when drive to hoop. Just over one, but less than two, on the game clock. Your football comparison is on point.

Sam Pittman just showed how it is done with sportsmanship in the Outback Bowl. Up 24-10, the Hogs had 1st and goal with just under 2 minutes to play. It is certainly likely that they could have scored if Pittman chose to. But he did the right thing by taking a delay of game penalty, then a knee for the remaining time. And I seriously doubt any player on the Penn State squad felt demeaned by the Hogs ending the game in that classy fashion!

RE: Anyone expect a win tonight?
I guess Coach Burg had a reason to be pissed off again. From a GaSou fan on the Sun Belt board-

What pissed our guys off is instead of just dribbling out the game with roughly a 20 point lead Ark St was trying to score more in the last 10-20 seconds.

Maybe Burg needs to do a better job coaching and not be behind double digits in the last minute.
