I hope this kid gets to the NFL, cause he's passing up a great last hoorah in Hawaii if he doesn't.

Memphis fans are like entitled children. A 6-6 year, let's see who is the next man ready to step up. Also this is a precursor to see what Seth Henigan can do without his #1 target. Calvin Austin earned this sit out.

We've been watching him do it for weeks. If you didn't know both of them have been battling injuries for parts of the season, you aren't paying close enough attention. There have been long stretches when Austin wasn't even on the field.

I do agree that this game and the other games in the season have allowed some younger players to step up. Also agree on Austin earning this. He has been a warrior on the field this season.

I'm aware that Calvin Austin was battling injuries and missed time this season. It will be interesting to see who is the man up and who Seth Henigan's new favorite target will be.

If he's getting his info that he will be drafted, I suppose it's worth his sitting out for a nothing bowl like Hawaii. On the other hand if it were me, I might like a free trip to Hawaii. Now if he decides to come back next season, then as a fan I'm not liking that decision - and as a coach I might not allow it.

One Draft site had him listed as the number 15 WR which would likely give a late round call. He has logged a 4.3 40. Evals give him good scores on all speed and skill drills. He gets high marks for his routs and above average on his hands.

He is short at maybe 5’8. Weight is maybe 165.

The numbers he has put up makes him an intriguing option to many teams looking for that extra 3rd down WR.

Again. Getting back to 100% is very important.

NFL teams are going to look at him and hope/wonder if he can become another Tyreke Hill type of player; utilizing his speed and explosiveness to make big plays ... the big question is can he catch the ball in traffic and in clutch situations ... Senior Bowl is coached by NFL staffs and practices are run like an NFL practice, so it is a pre-combine evaluation for these players .... It will be an important week for his future, for sure ...

Outside of the 4 teams in the national championship games, what if every single player (no matter what year they are) that has ANY chance to ever play in the NFL or the CFL sat out their bowl game?

Why risk an additional chance at injury?

Based on this thread no one should be critical.

Would make for some 'interesting' bowl games.....

Good points bluebacker.
And, oh God forbid, we fans be disappointed that one of our key players volunteer to sit out a game. That is so selfish (sarcasm).

As far as Austin, It was obvious the kid played hurt in the last few games of season. Calvin was a great Tiger. Calvin showed heart, strength, toughness, lightning speed, great hands, clutch player ...
The list goes on and on. My wish for him is to be in Hawaii now enjoying the benefits of soaking up the sun with his teammates and having a great travel experience.
But yes, I also wish he was suiting up tomorrow ready to kick some ass in a Tiger bowl game.
