Moultrie and Shopshire just entered the Portal.
I’d like to thank them and wish them well [/align]

Definitely. I can see why both would want to leave though, although really its the same reason: improve draft stock.
One probably wants more targets in a pass first system and the other would likely see his production explode playing as a 4-3 DE.

We'll be dealing with this until we truly reach the apex. We're almost big time and therefore players that are missed by high profile teams during first round of recruiting (high school & juco) don't mind coming to UAB but when they develop the high profile teams get a second shot at them. As we continue to ascend hopefully the number of players putting their name in the portal will decrease.

Both were underrecruited, so it is perhaps understandable they want to see who wants them now. I imagine both will be in the sec next fall, and I lean toward ole miss or miss state. Or maybe FSU.

RE: Players who have entered the Transfer Portal
Well just because their names in the portal doesn't mean they're leaving. They could be just testing the waters to see what else is out there. Going to a higher profile team without assurances regarding whether they are going to be starting or just in the rotation may make or break the deal.

RE: Players who have entered the Transfer Portal
For those of us who try to follow recruiting and who seem to be constantly dissatisfied with our recruiting rankings (and yes I include myself in that group), here is some food for thought with reference to the two players many of us are discouraged about losing today: Antonio Moultrie was a 2 star recruit and Trea Shrophire was a no star recruit.

Also, Kris Moll - who we unfortunately didn't see enough of this year, but who was first team all conference last year - was a 2 star recruit. First team all conference lineman Tyree Turner (transfer) was a 2 star recruit. Second team all conference TE Gerrit Prince was a no star recruit. Second team all conference safety Grayson Cash was a 2 star recruit, etc. (All rankings per 247)

The evidence seems to say that either:
a. Clark and staff are better at evaluating players than the recruiting services OR
b. Clark and staff are good at developing players OR
c. All of the above

Really surprised but I just read an article that the USFL is going to target players three years removed from high school that enter the Transfer Portal from G5 schools.

Yeah, this is the best recruiting evaluation staff we’ve had, but this is CUSA. Kiffin won it in year 1 and 3.
Taylor won it in year 2.

Now Huff has the top class and they were a game from playing for the title.

What was it that Anderson said about Burger King all Americans?

Perhaps if you ramp up the talent across the board, we are doing what UTSA did this season.
They played for the title WITHOUT Huff.
Traylor and Kiffin inherited two of the most talented teams in the league.

Stop already.

Clark took a team that literally didn’t exist and which had its recruiting nuked for more than a decade and turned it into 2-time champs and darn near a third

2014 Clark came and took a team with 1 FBS win in 2013 that in its last game got blown out by a team that lost their previous 23 to bowl eligible, while blowing out Troy in his first game. Do you think Jordan, JJ or Gerald get a shot at the NFL without that year? anyone complaining about player development just don't realize how bad we were in 2013.

Coach Clark is the perfect coach for UAB. There probably isn’t another coach who believed in us. I really like Coach Kennedy as well.

I would say “c. All of the above”. You have to identify talent with the potential for development to fit your system. Then you have to develop that talent.

RE: Players who have entered the Transfer Portal
The portal to me, is a chance for a deep pocket P5 team to offer NIL to players to bring them in where they aren't getting the $$ from NIL at current school. For the kid, it makes sense...they are free agents negotiating money and draft stock. Why would you stay in AAC if you get offered a SEC level NIL?

There will be player that enter, and don't get those offers they hope and will return, or will get a NIL locally that keeps them here.

You can't blame them for looking for sure

I also think a transfer is a very different situation for guys with these bonus years from covid. In their minds, they probably feel like they have fulfilled what they came to UAB to do and now want to see what their market value is from all that work.
