RE: Campbell - GAME 9
Campbell lost to Duke 67-56, beat Marshall 67-65, beat Stetson 60-58(Stetson beat CofC), and lost to VCU 65-61.
They average 68.6 ppg
Here are the players we should see the most:
Cedric Henderson 6'6" 190 lb G/F Sr. 13 ppg, 51.4%, 9-27 from 3(33.3%) 6 reb 31 min
Jesus Carralero 6'8" 215 lb F Jr. 12 ppg 46.4%, 5 rebs, 43 assists, 26 min
Ricky Clemons 6'2" 205 lb G Sr. 10 ppg 65.5%, 2-7 from 3, 6 reb, 31 min
Jordan Whitfield 6'1" 175lb G Sr. 9.4 ppg 41%, 10-31 from 3(32.3%), 33 min
Messiah Thompson 5'8" 165lb G Jr. 9.5 ppg 42%, 16-45 from 3(35.6%), 27 min
Austin McCullough 6'5" 205lb G Sr 8 ppg 55%, 10-28 from 3(35.7%), 25 min
Looking at their DI games Cedric Henderson and Ricky Clemons are their primary scorers
Duke
Henderson 18 pts, 11 rebs, 8-15 from the field, 38 minutes
Clemons 18 pts, 7-10 from the field
VCU
Henderson 20 pts, 11 rebs, 9-14 from the field (7 TO's)
Stetson
Henderson 14 pts, 6-13 from the field, 36 minutes
Clemons 14pts, 6-8 from the field, 39 minutes
Marshall
Henderson 21 pts, 8-16 from the field, 37 minutes
Jesus Carralero hasn't had the big scoring games but he has the third most FG attempts, second in scoring average, leads the team in steals and leads the team in assists with 45, with the next closest player being Clemons with 26. Looks like the offense runs through him from the post where he will shoot or make a pass.
Clemons is going to be a handful for our guards to stop on the drive. At 6'2", 205lbs he is shooting 65.5% from the field and has only taken 7 three point attempts all year. He has the most FT attempts on the team.
Campbell really only goes six deep and in most of their games their primary players are going 35 minutes plus. They are going to want to slow this game down and operate in the half court set. Sure seems like a game where we use our depth, press as much as possible, and get out on the run every chance we get. And I know Siddle doesn't like to run a zone defense, but this sure seems like a team we should run some zone against to keep our guards out of foul trouble and stop the drive. Campbell likes to play a five out offense, but they really rely on the drive to score or set up the three. Since one of their primary scoring guards doesn't shoot the three a zone could take him out of the offense.
Campbell looks to take advantage of guard play against big men in the same manner UNCW does, so they aren't big. We should be able to hang with them on defense and use our depth and pressure to wear them down. I like our chances in this one.
