I would think Fick (or anyone else) would entertain LSU before OU.

That is Dave Simone. He runs the BCJ Twitter account.
Not sure if related but Dave is also a Tennessee fan and I would think OU might target Heupal.

Apparently, I’m out of the loop with the current cast system. Is Oklahoma a better job than Tennessee?

It is if you are an alum, like UT’s coach.

RE: 2021 CFB Coaching Carousel
Great decision by Riley to leave for USC. It's easier to win in the Pac-12 vs the SEC. He already made some inroads into recruiting Cali before he left-- as he has 3 top 50 prospects from Cali in his 2023 OU recruiting class, including the #2 overall guy who is a QB. I'm sure it won't be a hard sell to get those players to USC, nor should it be that hard to get alot of the top Cali talent to stay at home now to play.
Carroll showed that if you are a good coach and recruiter, you can dominate at USC. IF Riley turns around USC, then this is great for the game IMO. Major brand, major market, west coast-- all things that will benefit the sport if Riley can turn USC into a contender quickly. After 5 years of basically Bama, Clemson, tOSU, it would be nice to see other teams rise up and compete. College football has gotten stale, and this year has been a breath of fresh air with UC, Michigan. Georgia and even OK State all potentially being in the playoff.

Wonder if caleb follows him to SC? If so SC has two QBs that might end up in the portal as well.

Well apparently Oklahoma isn't the destination job everybody says it is.
Riley looking at some major a$$ kickings in the SEC took the first train out of town.

Maybe it shows how bad of a move it was for OU to go to the SEC.

Cheating until you get caught and beat feet to the NFL didn’t hurt, either.

Per Adam Schefter
Oklahoma has targeted Cardinals’ HC Kliff Kingsbury as one of the potential replacements for Lincoln Riley, league sources tell ESPN.
Kingsbury has one year remaining on his contract after this season.

True. But now it's legal for players to get paid. Carroll just got busted for the Reggie Bush scandal, or was it more than that?? I can't remember.

IMO that would be a waste of time target. It would be one thing if he was struggling in the NFL, but KK currently has the best (record) team in the NFL. If it continues, he's in for a hefty NFL pay raise.

Per SI, Riley was making $7.6M and Okie is owed $4.5M on his buyout. You figure USC will pay him north of $10M annually.

I guess it doesn't hurt to pick up the phone. I agree he's in a great position, and I don't know why you would leave a successful NFL job to go back to the grind of recruiting and dealing with boosters. But you never know... maybe he doesn't like ownership or genuinely loves recruiting. But yeah, that's a 1 in a million chance. I don't think he would take the job, but Aranda at Baylor would be worth a call. Heupel would be a poor hire IMO but they might sniff at him. Venebles at Clemson is another long shot they might poke at, as well as Mark Stoops. Getting Stoops and Marrow out of our region might help us in recruiting.

One of several reasons I'm not too concerned about Fickell being interested in Oklahoma is that he has a better chance of going to the CFP at Cincinnati going forward than he does at OU. OU might not win an SEC championship for 10 years. Fickell will have Cincinnati competing for Big 12 championships annually.

RE: 2021 CFB Coaching Carousel
Didn't someone in this thread say Oklahoma might become the next Nebraska in the SEC? I don't know if they'll slide that far, but Nebraska is a case study in how leaving your natural rivals and recruiting territory for bigger paychecks isn't always a great idea. Oklahoma has a better shot in the SEC due to having Texas/Texas A&M and more recent success than Nebraska did, but it will be tough sledding for sure.
