RE: VaTech game discussion
Well that was an impressive showing considering the sloppy offense and both star freshman out with 2 early fouls.
Even when Duran and Bates both have a terrible outing we are still able to keep an experienced and legit NCAA team at arms length virtually the entire game.
That is a really good sign imo.

Turnovers low.
Rebounding margin high.
Rotation low.
This checks all you guys' boxes.
What else could you POSSIBLY complain about?
What about Lomax AND Harris on floor at the same time? I hoped and thought I’d seen the last of that…
Nothing to complain there either, that worked. We could stay with their small guards on both sides and to compensate for rebounds we might lose our NBA style coaching staff had the vision to put both bigs in and they stuffed'em so that any big switch we could rotate a big to that player.
That rotation confused the hell out of VA tech. Great coaching; again.

The problem is that we have too many good players. I agree that Lomax and Harris should not be on the floor together, and I don't think you can put Harris and Junior on the floor at the same time.
Can we ever have Minott on the floor? He's barely played the last 2 games.

If we had a PG this team would be elite, one of the best in the country.

Eh, I guess that is a matter of how you define elite. For me that is top 3 maybe top 5, but also depends on how great other teams are that season. As of right now we are a legitimate good team, I hope by tournament time we are a legitimate great team. But we are not "elite" at this point, IMO.

agree
you have to compare yourselves to the rest of the teams in any given year, kind of like recruiting rankings
I think Gonzaga, Purdue and Kansas are elite right now. There is plenty of time to get better and gel even more. Our talent is elite, we just need to play smart every game.

Penny let’s mismatches dictate who to run the ball through.
Williams is more of a garbage man. An opportunist. He’s a good player but you can’t run an offense through him.
I agree. He is the emotional and vocal leader. He is makes plays at the right time and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time but he makes a lot of unforced errors.
You can run your offense through him for a play or two every so often but it would not be good to try and run the offense through him all game.
He does a good job of breaking down the defense and can score 1 on 1.
2nd on the team in assists last year behind Lomax...Nobody else really close. I think calling him a garbage man is not accurate...The guy can get his own.
Better than anyone on the team IMO.

There is no doubt that he can. But I think that is situational. I don’t think he is a guy that you give the ball to over and over again that can consistently get his shot off.

Also, Deandre. So Deandre and Malcolm having big games. And you have to give Duren a chance - which paid off in the 2nd half. So Minott didn't get opportunities.

Honestly don't think his role would be to be a scorer...But he gets both feet in the paint in control...From that point the offense opens up. Especially if he is playing with shooters.
Later in the year Emoni may learn to stay in control when he drives...Once he learns that he can have the keys.

Long time lurker, first post.
I am happy with Penny's coaching this year. If i had to find a negative, it is line ups throughout the game. I know foul trouble and all that. Even this "issue" is not terrible.
We did score 69 on the #1 scoring defense whose opponents were averaging 48 points.
Very good win.
