One man’s speculation is another’s BS.

Regardless, your “speculation” was used by others here who ran with it because they have an agenda against penny.

I thought that I had heard everything, but this is on another level. Someone saying that they "heard" about a future point spread when none exists. The other hater comically (predictably) then jumps on the bandwagon saying that the imaginary point spread shows that Penny can't coach.

He called it “line speculation.” It sounds so official!

Sorry I used a word that’s not in your vocabulary, ya hillbilly

Technically it’s a phrase - and a phrase that you made up.

Facts are facts. There was no line and you made one up. I’d be really curious as to who you “heard” it from, there are two companies in Vegas that set lines and several intermediate companies that help books with analytics to make sure they are covered on both sides of the bets.

There was no line and unless you have friends who work at the two major companies who have major NDAs and legal repercussions worse than the SEC about leaking lines, you are completely full of it.

It's called line speculation. I never claimed I knew a real oddsmaker or companies that set lines in Vegas (where the hell ya come with that beats me???). And he said he hoped they'd be playing Iowa State because Xavier is better. I hate to break it to him, but they'll be playing Iowa State when both lose.

The author essentially says Tech will win against #9 Memphis, but he’s scared of #25 Xavier. He’s got that exactly backwards

That should be the expectation...If we are only 1.5 points better than V. Tech our aspirations of making a run to final four are not logical.

We should beat this team by double digits if both teams play their best game.

I completely disagree. First, Virginia Tech returns its top 8 scorers, with 6 of them being seniors or juniors. We return 3 out of our top 6 scorers, our top 2 scorers are freshmen, and 5 out of our top 8 scorers are freshmen or sophmores.

Quote:We should beat this team by double digits if both teams play their best game.

In their first test against good competition, Anderson, CDR and Dozier went 4-12 from the field. In his first test against good competition, DWash went 4-12 from the field with 1 assist and 6 turnovers. In his first test against good competition, Sean Banks went 2-11 from the field. Rose went 4-12 from the field against Oklahoma. Tyreke went 4-16 from the field against Xavier.

Quote:If we are only 1.5 points better than V. Tech our aspirations of making a run to final four are not logical.

The 2007 team started 8-3 and went 25-1 the rest of the way. The 2009 team started 6-3 and went 27-1 the rest of the way.

I would say that Virginia Tech has an infinitely better chance to play their best game, than we do. Why would anyone imagine that with so many newcomers; we are going to play our best game the 5th game of the season? Why would anyone imagine that our 5th game will have any bearing on what kind of a team we are this year?

I don't understand how anyone thinks it makes sense to live and die by our 5th game of the season.

No living or dying...But the expectations should be to roll this team...

If we lose this game is it the end of the world...No...But the expectation should be that this game shouldnt be close.

We are not a young team...We Start Senior, Senior, Junior, Freshman, Freshman.

Then the sixth man is a Junior.

5 out of the top 7 guys in minutes played are Junior or Senior.

And point of note...You have the scoring reversed as well 3 out of top 8 scorers are Freshmen or Sophs.

I would say Gonzaga lost more than we did...3 out their top 6 scorers are Fresh and Sophs. They would be favored to win this game by way more than 2.

We have to prove it on the floor...That is why we are only favored by 1.5.

If we win by 2 or even lose does that mean it will be a bad season...No...But a team with expectations to go to the final four shouldn't be worried about playing a close game against a middling V.Tech team unless they play poorly.

Not sure how you come up with all that.
GP had Va Tech as his "unranked team that could crack the top 10 this year".
The challenge is that our top 2 players are supposed to be playing in HS tournaments this weekend.
The talent is there for sure.
And if this game was in February, I'd be with you.
But right now, a 3-point win sounds about right to me.

Maybe I think more highly of our guys than you...Or less of V. Tech than you.

But I think this team without the Freshmen should be a tourney team. I would call that a pick'em vs. V. Tech.

I have a hard time seeing that. without the freshman, the team is like a donut, a big hole in the middle. Dandridge has been a big disappointment so far this season. Don't see C. Lawson helping a lot in the middle either.

So you think if Penny doesn't land the Freshman that we go another year without a tourney appearance.

I still see a solid starting 5...Malcolm instead of Moussa...Definite drop off in the middle. We would be seeing much more Minott and possibly Camden...Both tall guys who could steal minutes at the 4.

But I still think what is left would have been enough to have made the dance. Wouldn't have gone far...But would have at least made it

I've seen too may of these games... First road test, even though a nuetral sight... team with several new players, Penny will play too many. etc. I hate it, but we'll play right into their hands and take a Fat L tonight for the nation to see, and it will take about 5 games to make it up. Duran and Williams can’t get into foul trouble. That throws the rotation off.

Seems like historically we often struggle in these early season tourneys. I can't guess how many times we had a highly touted ranked team get humbled in these big November matchups.

I think it comes down to how tight the defense is at this early stage and if they can avoid too many turnovers.

If our defense is clicking we will be in good position.
