RE: Week 12 Other Games
Well would've been nice for more than one other game to go our way, but I figured Montana was the only one with a decent chance to. Very likely 4 seed with a slight chance of 5 behind Sacramento State and smaller chance of a higher seed imo.

Avoid Fargo and would go back to SHSU when its not 95 degrees out.

The last time we one the title we were the four seed so it's fitting

ECU beats Navy on a 54 yard FG as time expired to go to 7-4. Their last game is at home against Cincinnati.

MH should be set for a while, regardless of results against Cincy. Once realignment happens, they could dominate the weakened AAC, and should be a perennial top 3 in that conference now.

I don't know Kevin's thinking, but there is an argument for his picks.

Sac St is big sky Champ and AQ
Montana and Montana St are both 9-2. Montana has the head-to-head plus a FBS win. Its possible 6/7/8 get shuffled, but there is a case to be made for Kevin's picks.

Also, sort of a minor detail, but Montana AD is on the committee. Rarely see an unfavorable outcome for committee member teams.

Agreed.

Should ECU win a bowl game this year and finish 8-5 (or 9-4 if they upset Cincy), MH will have silenced his critics and set himself up for a nice run that could lead to a P5 coaching gig.

Yeah they are all 9-2. But again in Big Sky play:
MT ST is 7-1
MT is 6-2
EWU is 6-2.

They round robbined (MT ST beat EWU, EWU beat. MT, MT beat MT St).
So 7-1 trumps 6-2. Then with 6-2 head to head trumps. So therefore MT ST-EWU-MT.

Understand your logic, but I think on close calls, the committee has more leeway to vote as they please. They can justify either seeding outcome. If they seed Montana higher, the justification will be the "impressive" FBS win over U of Washington.

The process involves discussions, a round of blind/anonymous votes, followed by discussion of prelim vote results, followed by a final anonymous vote. In my mind, the job of the committee chair afterward is to defend/explain the voting results based on various conversations that happened in the discussion.

An ESPN question, is VT 1) a sleeping giant or 2) faded great program?

There should be a third correct option 3) an overrated program

Why does that football program get so much credit for having done so little?

Fat chance! I've seen ECU play. They suck! They will suck as long as MH and DK are there. This season was an anomaly.

Except they've looked better every season Houston has been there? Going to their first bowl game since 2014

This season was an anomaly. Beating a really bad 2-8 Navy team on a last-second 54-yard FG is not very inspiring football to me.

I would say that ECU's odds of winning their bowl game are very slim, no matter who they are playing.

Granted, I'm very biased against Mike Houston. I thought his last season at JMU was an absolute train wreck and the way he left disgraceful.

Really? 03-shhhh

You know, it’s only human to admit you might be wrong when your bias colors your outlook. 04-cheers

MH has improved the train-wreck of ECU’s FB program every year since his arrival, and posting a winning season this year and going to a bowl game is factual proof that he’s making a positive impact at ECU. It makes absolutely zero difference what the margin of victory is or who ECU beats as long as it’s a “W” and helps earn the Pirates their first bowl invitation in 7 years. If MH repeats or even improves upon this season’s winning record in 2022 MH should receive a nice raise and contract extension.

Really, Horny? You see a 14-19 record as a wonderful thing? That is Houston's record at ECU over the past three years. Would JMU fans be happy with that record? Hell no!

EZ beat a really bad 2-8 Navy team on Saturday by a prayer of a 54-yard FG in the last second of the game. They will almost certainly lose their bowl game.

Houston has two years left on his contract which I do not see being renewed or extended. We will just have to wait and see. In the meantime, 14-19 is in the books! It will soon be 14-20. Argue with that.

He just got them to their best record since 2014 with a 3 point loss to South Carolina, 4 point loss to UCF, and an OT loss to 10-1 Houston. If he continues to improve on that (which is likely with the 3 teams leaving the AAC in 2023) he will have no problem getting extended

RE: Week 12 Other Games
ECU Sagarin ratings:
2018: 140-(last year of Coach Mo)
2019: 140 (Houston's 1st year)
2020- 100 (Houston's 2nd year)
2021- 75 ( Current year)

Even some of the hardcore haters and unrealistic expectation, tantrum fans are starting to come around. He has righted a sinking and rotting ship that was a dumpster fire when he arrived. Getting Ahlers to come back would give them a chance to improve next year, but I personally think Ahlers should go the way of Gardner Minshew, and try to find a real QB coach for his last year. Donnie Kirkpatrick likely can't help him get beyond his current level.

RE: Week 12 Other Games
I wonder how ECU would look right now if they hadn't run Trott out of town. It took some time for his defense to gel at JMU but when it did, well I don't have to tell anyone here how good it was. I bet they wouldn't be allowing 40 points per game this year... And their biggest loss is 14 points which was their only two-score loss, they might have a very impressive record this year with even just a little better defense.

Glad to see Houston getting things turned around though. I don't know how much blame for the way he left is truly on him vs Charlotte and/or just the early signing day, but I do know how good his first two JMU teams were and think he deserves as much credit as almost anyone for where JMU football is now compared to before hiring him. Hopefully we can get a home and home with his Pirates and give them a couple more beat downs.

Added some emphasis in bold in case those that want to discredit the Navy win since it was on a last second FG want to play the what if game out completely. If ECU had just a few plays go differently in the last minute of those games, they would be sitting at 10-1 (or I guess 9-2 if Navy FG was missed).

14-18 overall is certainly better than 3 straight years of 3-9 with multiple losses to FCS teams.

2022 OOC could be rough with current top 25 opponents NC State and BYU (which both appear to be returning key players).
