Ryan has managed to turn us into a mediocre football program in just his 2nd year. Impressive.

He has made mistakes but there was nothing wrong with the coaching against Houston. The gameplan was solid, the play calling was fine and the kids competed like crazy. What was much more worrisome was the huge talent gap between us and Houston. In 2019, we were better than Cincinnati is this year, and better than Houston last week.

It isn't possible that that we have anyone with the talent of Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, Gainwell or Coxie on the roster, and Silverfield and the entire staff aren't able to develop them. It is obvious that we have a lot less talent than we did in 2019. Norvell and Fuente couldn't do much better with what we have, and Silverfield wouldn't be 5-5 with the 2019 roster.

The most confusing part is that we have been recruiting at our highest sustained level ever, over the last 4 years; and yet there isn't anyone emerging as anywhere close to the talent that we had during Norvell's tenure. Either we were super lucky before (which is highly possible) and we are highly unlucky now (also possible).

Besides Austin and Dykes, I would say that the only above average players on offense are Ivory and I think Lewis is going to continue to get better. It is very weird watching us play these days.

Nothing weird about it. I told you it would happen and why.

You are weird. Go back to Norvell's 4 years; look at the quarterback, running backs and wide receivers, and rank them. It is obviously subjective, but facts are facts.

Quarterback
White 2020
White 2019
Ferguson 2017
Ferguson 2016
Henigan 2021
White 2018

Running Backs
Henderson
Gainwell
Pollard
Taylor
Dorceus
Thomas
Clark

Wide Receiver
Miller
Gibson
Coxie
Austin
Pollard
Mayhue
Washington
Ivory
Lewis

So the best of the best of our current roster, this is how they fit into the depth chart.

3rd string quarterback (no shame for Henigan, he is a pure freshman)
6th string running back
4th string wide receiver

Gibson barely got on the field his junior year. Gainwell got 4 carries his freshman season, Pollard was the third best running back on the roster in 2018, and that is only because Gainwell was allowed to redshirt. He would have been our 4th best. Austin barely sniffed the field in 2018 and 2019.

Under Norvell; Thomas, Clark, Watkins, Martin, Ivory, Lewis and Rogers would have been world beaters, and under Silverfield; Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, Miller, and Coxie would have been average?

I agree, Norvell and RS ( he help recruit for NOrvell) found the diamonds in the rough. rankings are a crap shoot sometimes. TBH, finding Parish a 4* recruit is mind boggling.

GUSNOB- Waiting for data to back up your DS.

I was on vacation when Parrish got his start and his treatment by this board has been incredibly unfair. He was playing his first game in 3 years, with a horrible offensive line, almost no playmakers to help him out, while getting 3rd string reps in practice.

I think you’re providing my point… the program Ryan Silverfield is not leading is not the same program Mike Norvell led. Mike put talent on the field… lots of talent on the field; while Ryan has managed to run an awful lot of his off, and the product he puts out there is painfully average. For being such a good recruiter, we’ve got no one on the offensive side of the ball better than the players Mike put out there. The WR position is thin… our best RB has been chased out the door… Sean Dykes is f’n awesome but he’s been underutilized & plays his last home game on Saturday. The only consistent producer we have returning on offense next year is Seth Henigan, so the program is in a precarious spot… at the worst possible time.

It's a shame we didn't get year two out of Fuller. He produced at every single job by year two, including at Florida State, where they are giving up 9.3 less points per game than last year, while only scoring 2.4 more points.

Quote:Mike put talent on the field… lots of talent on the field
Fuente's last class had Henderson, Pollard, Magnifico, Kyser, Maulet, Kedarian Jones, Oglesby, and Gentry. The class before had Avery, Mayhue, Shareef White, and Akins. Norvell had no quarterback, but nailed it with Ferguson.

Norvell's last class had Mashburn, Owens, Clark, Ducksworth, Dale, Rogers, Washington, Ivory, Joseph and Martin. His 2018 class had Gibson, Gainwell, Q. Johnson, Orona, Fields and Ellis. Silverfield had White for a year and nailed it with Henigan.

The bottom line is that neither Norvell's last two classes, nor Silverfield's first two classes have produced the elite talent that we have had in the program for so many years.

Quote:Ryan has managed to run an awful lot of his off
Last year the board was on Eze big time and Carter had stagnated. Both would have helped this year for sure, but the big loss was Washington. And in the spirit of being fair, OF COURSE you are going to have more attrition with a first year coach than with Norvell, who was considered one of the great young minds in the game.

I did a post on it a few months ago, looking at coaches who were hired when Silverfield was hired. I'm a bit foggy on exact details, but most of the coaches that were hired at other programs, were less desirable, were retreads or turned out to be busts.

It doesn't look like there was a Fuente or Norvell out there to be had. I will have to go back and have a look.

Who are the potential superstars Silverfield hasn't developed? Clark, Watkins, Weaver, Martin, Timothy Taylor, Kameron Wilson? How many of them should be in the NFL? Which one of those would have been the next Henderson, Gainwell, Coxie, Miller, Pollard, or Gibson?

You dope that's the point. No one predicted those guys to where they are at the beginning

Sure, we are all of a sudden going to go 6-6. Some of our fans sure do like to keep it "real." 03-lmfao - Stammers

Your point is that Clark, Watkins, Weaver, Martin and Taylor had the same talent coming in as Henderson, Gainwell, Gibson and Pollard. Good one. Bonus points for forgetting how to speak english.

Yes, if Norvell had Clark, Watkins, Martin and Weaver, he would have developed them all into NFL running backs. If Silverfield had Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, and Gainwell, they would be average D1 backs at best.

You keep getting funnier and funnier with age.

Yeah, everybody knew they would be NFL guys when the signed with memphis. Do you know how dumb that sounds.

Are you drunk?

Yes, because Norvell developed them. Norvell would have developed Clark, Watkins, Martin and Weaver into NFL draft picks. Henderson, Gainwell, Gibson, and Pollard would have been average D1 backs, nothing more under Silverfield.

Hopefully, God will have mercy on you and you will pass out from drinking before you post again. It's no fun getting old.

Ok. Ok.

I'm through taking you serious.

You have some sort of cognitive impairment or you're fricking with me.

The thing is… Ryan is soon headed into year 3 and, at this point, barring an influx of “ready to play” talent from the portal, it appears his best year will be his first.

At some point, if he is going to keep this boat afloat, the players he is bringing in have to contribute at the same high level of the players Justin & Mike recruited. If not, we’ll remain a 2-6 AAC squad.
