Hopefully, they’ll put together a search committee, as they did with Norvell & Fuente, and not make an emotional, feel good hire… those typically don’t work out so good.
You have to give him one more year. It's just not a good look to let a coach go after two years, unless he's a Larry Porter type. He's been hit with some bad mojo this year. Defections and injuries have taken a toll on us.
Now, if he under-performs next year then send him packing along with his DC, OC and ST coaches. If he doesn't address those issues in the off season then I think we can expect more of the same from him next season.
I’m beginning to think the bad mojo & defections are not a coincidence. He lost his playmakers last year & neither said a good thing about him. He lost his top corner (Carter), top O lineman (Eze), team favorite D-lineman (Dorceus) & emerging WR (Washington) to transfer this year and not one uttered a complimentary word towards Silverfield on their way out. Now, we stand to lose our top RB (Thomas) again to transfer. Perhaps these were all bad seeds that needed to move on, but we’re not a program with the luxury of having so many top contributors leave. So yes, I question if Ryan Silverfield is head coach material. He had never been as much as a coordinator prior and seems to have a difficult time appeasing his top contributors. In my opinion, he’s best coaching oline somewhere else.
I guess I didn't keep up as closely as needed with just how these defections were playing out. A little context changes everything so thanks.

The recruiting rankings must lie. Either that or Norvell and Fuente were much better at finding the diamond in the rough. Probably both.
This is the main problem. Our running game is no longer a threat. We don’t have a Patrick Taylor or a Dorceus. Calvin Austin is the only playmaker on the team right now.
You're also working with your back ups on the left side of the line and your right tackle isn't very good. Thus the running game suffers

We need someone who can catch the ball and hit the gaps . No Henderson , Pollard , Miller , and others . We're a couple of "really good" wide receivers away from being pretty good . JMO

Bottom is falling out next year, and then we're starting over.
I think the term is called “Pastner-ing” the program. Does GT need a football coach that we can send them?
GT would probably welcome him with open arms after the beating they took yesterday!!!!

Remember, Tahj Washington WR wanted a meeting with Coach Silverfield to determine how he planned to use him this year. “He just wanted to know what (Silverfield)'s plans were, what his goals were for Tahj,” Washington’s mother, Shanon Kuykendall, said this week. “He sat down with Silverfield and there was nothing promising. That made his decision for him. You can’t keep a child in a box.
Tahj as a second or even a third option in this offense could have been a valuable piece that could have helped this offense. The creative imagination that Norvell had to put skill players in a position to contribute is not present with this staff. This is not the same program.

The running game would be fine if the O-Line was better.

where is the talent not exceeding expectations?
Is that a joke? Do some brief google/247/espn research and compare recruiting classes for Tiger teams over the last 30 years. Silverfield is Pastner-ing this lineup and the football program. It is what it is.

Yeah, you have to be mentally deficient to not see how this team is being wasted

OL? graduated several . down to 3rd string. QB? freshman. still learning...
Kicker? injured used a punter and now he is kicking...

Tpaw - please quit throwing facts into the conversation. It’s just not the acceptable thing to do around here.
RE: Is this the same program that went to the Cotton Bowl…
Three years ago, we had Patrick Taylor, Henderson, Pollard, Gainwell, and Gibson all on the same team. This year we have no one like that. And we probably never will again. Not many teams do.

I cannot believe Ryan Silverfield did not make time to speak to this kid… but it goes back to not knowing how to keep talented players on the field or on the roster. Players seem to have zero loyalty to him. Josh Pastner had the same problem… perhaps there’s the fake public persona that does not mesh with the every day persona the players see. Regardless, Ryan does not command the same level of loyalty Mike seemed to receive.

Ryan has managed to turn us into a mediocre football program in just his 2nd year. Impressive.
He has made mistakes but there was nothing wrong with the coaching against Houston. The gameplan was solid, the play calling was fine and the kids competed like crazy. What was much more worrisome was the huge talent gap between us and Houston. In 2019, we were better than Cincinnati is this year, and better than Houston last week.
It isn't possible that that we have anyone with the talent of Henderson, Pollard, Gibson, Gainwell or Coxie on the roster, and Silverfield and the entire staff aren't able to develop them. It is obvious that we have a lot less talent than we did in 2019. Norvell and Fuente couldn't do much better with what we have, and Silverfield wouldn't be 5-5 with the 2019 roster.
The most confusing part is that we have been recruiting at our highest sustained level ever, over the last 4 years; and yet there isn't anyone emerging as anywhere close to the talent that we had during Norvell's tenure. Either we were super lucky before (which is highly possible) and we are highly unlucky now (also possible).
Besides Austin and Dykes, I would say that the only above average players on offense are Ivory and I think Lewis is going to continue to get better. It is very weird watching us play these days.

I agree, Norvell and RS ( he help recruit for NOrvell) found the diamonds in the rough. rankings are a crap shoot sometimes. TBH, finding Parish a 4* recruit is mind boggling.
