This is unfortunate, but wacko professors like Allyn Walker have a negative effect on ODU. And that includes attendance at football and basketball.

We can all agree on whacko I’m sure but I don’t think it has anything to do with sports….

Football/basketball attendence isn't being impacted by this

Likely didn't affect sports attendance, but it definitely didn't portray ODU in a positive light nationwide.

RE: 2021 Football Season
Does it affect anyone on this board going to a game? Probably not. But I know people who are turned off by the woke culture at ODU. Are they season ticket holders? No. But they are casual fans who probably won't go to any games or support ODU. They are the flip side of those who won't support ODU if we enter into a conference with Liberty.

If they consider ODU woke, they likely weren’t coming to games long before this assistant professor got to ODU.

Really? What gives you that vibe? **** Liberty but this **** is not tolerated by ODU and it shouldn't be. I am sure there is statement out there from Admin clarifying their stance on this.

+1. If they think ODU is woke then those snowflakes will never make it to our campus in the first place anyway.

They were put on admin leave. And yes the school released multiple statements.

I think it's fair to say that most college campuses are woke these days, though some of those are certainly more woke than others.

Tell ya what I'm really proud of college students nowadays if they're all woke. When I was in college it would take forever for me to wake up, and those early morning classes were killer.

Read the WAVY news article. What am I missing? Just exactly what is wrong with his research? If students feel threatened by research, they need to go to Liberty.

We all know who created this atmosphere of knowledge denial and fear of the truth.

Can one of the mods please split this thread away from a FB related discussion which this controversy has nothing to do with. TIA.

We all know who created this atmosphere of knowledge denial and fear of the truth.

The professor is using a different acronym (MAPs) to describe people who have not yet abused a child but are attracted to them.

On one hand, pedophiles are the lowest of the low and their abuses reek havoc on the victims for the rest of their life and there should be a stigma related to those thoughts regardless if they've acted on them or not.

However, I can also see the logic being used. Their hypothesis is that people who are ashamed of who they are and those thoughts won't seek treatment before acting of those urges out of fear of being ostracized. And if they don't get treatment, one would assume they're more likely to actually act on those urges. And that is something we all want to avoid.

It's a very sticky situation with a ton to unwrap. I don't envy the position this controversial subject has put our leadership in. If it was me, I'd work on getting Allyn Walker a position at a think tank and disassociate the university ASAP from their research.

So I understand why but I do find it funny that this post got pulled into this thread lol. I'm just trying to make jokes! Break the tension a bit! And was looking for other folks to commiserate with me about the evils that are 8am college classes.

Had to, it would have lost its humor and relevance if left in the other thread. And everyone should have known to never sign up for anything before 10am and ideally nothing before noon.

I get what you' re saying and agree for the most part. What bothers me is the defac to censorship of a very serious topic of research simply because some students are scarred. This is a textbook example of ignorance fueling irrational fears.
I wonder if those opposed to truth and knowledge are crying wolf about not feeling safe in an attempt to muzzle research?
