Good timing. I was working on posting the Tweet announcing his firing.
I don't like how he left, but I still appreciate what he did for Memphis.
I like Ryan, I just think he may be in over his head.

Forgive him for what? Being the first coach to have an offense that threw the ball before 3rd and long?

I guess you have forgotten how the team just laid down with 4 or 5 games to go in the season after they learned he was going to leave for VT. They just quit putting any effort into winning.

I'd take Jus back in a second.
But his wife didn't like Memphis...so won't happen.

No thanks. He burnt me on his way out of town. But I’d take Norvell back in a second.

I don’t believe all that silly stuff. We lost to a good Navy team and then blew a 20 pt. lead vs Houston. I guess Jake Elliot was mad at Fuente for leaving so he blew that fg? All that “he left the wrong way” and we “coulda fired him the right way” is such crap. Everyone either leaves or gets fired. Once again it’s sports not a preacher or a son in law. Just win games and when you stop you’re gone. Saying all that it’s never good to go back. Ask Louisville how Petrino worked out the second time.

Doesn’t he seem a natural now for TCU?

Have they hired someone yet?

You don't get fired and wind up in a good HC position.

He's gonna have to either be a coordinator somewhere or he'll be a head coach at a lower job (almost certainly not P5 level).

Remember, we hired Tommy West as DC after he was fired from a better HC job, then promoted him.

It'll be hard for him to come back from this.

Fuente would be a big step up from our current HC, who is completely out of his element. I doubt he come back & I doubt we’d ever offer, however.

Va Tech is a tough job. The state is much like Tennessee in its shallow talent pool & the Hampton / Newport News that produce talent are geographically & culturally very different from Blacksburg.

It is well documented by the words out of his own mouth that left on multiple all- nighters to VaTech, including during the week of the Navy game. We didnt lose to a good Navy team. We were completely unprepared for a good Navy team primarily because the head coach was missing in action.

Exactly. Leaving is fine. Tanking while still on the job is not.

I think he’ll be fine. $10 mil buyout and he can make millions as a coordinator before other HC opportunities pop up (if he wants one). Barry Odom makes nearly $2 mil as DC for Arkansas.

If he wants to stick around someone will hire him as an offensive coordinator
