Seems they are still working things out at both ends. I imagine Wes is still trying to figure out lineups too; there are a lot of options, but the subbing was pretty crazy tonight.
MAW was pretty steady. So was Newman.
Lahkin continues to impress on offense.
Koval with a huge no no no yes! 3 there at the end. I guess he can hit that shot? He had a bunch of rebounds too. Solid game for him off the bench.
Not a great night for Davenport, but he still ended up with 11 and 7.
Please no DDJ at the line at the end of games. MAW and Madsen should be the guys getting the ball late with a lead.
That Madsen got so few minutes again is a huge mystery to me. What am I missing?
Anyone see Tyler Hansbrough in attendance? I gather he and Miller are close.
Really liking this team. Excited to see them progress.
A few points...Madsen played 15 minutes...that was like 5th most last night (the rotations are nuts right now). Shouldve probably be in that last minute for free throw shooting through.
Koval is a career 35% 3 point shooter (which, by percentages, makes him the 2nd best 3 point shooter on the team at this point). I think you'll see him have more than a few of those in the pick and pop game, and I'm more than ok with it. His shot looks far better than most of our perimeter players at this point.
I still don't know what I'm supposed to see that makes Ado a starting caliber player...he didn't bring anything to either of these first two games that we didn't have more of from Koval and Lakhin.
We had 5 guys over 20 minutes and a couple right around Mason's 14. But he was 8th in minutes, not 5th. I think we are seeing Wes's bias towards defense and rebounding. Newman is generally going to beat Mason in those two departments and Miller in the post-game praised MAW/Saunders for their pressure on the ball (though if you ask me MAW gave up quite a few drives to the rim). Mason is also prone to getting overhyped and making a bad decision.
Mason isn't bad on defense though and he is one of our best offensive players. He helps spread the floor with the three in a way nobody else (besides possibly McGinnis) on the team can and showed the ability to drive to the basket and create as well. I get why Newman is preferred for now, being the older veteran who defends and rebounds, but I think at some point this season Mason starts to get more minutes at the expense of someone (probably Newman).
I agree on Ado, haven't seen much from him. He has the size and big body but he just can't use them to do much. Doesn't have great hands, doesn't move well to get rebounds and struggled to defend a smaller guy in the paint. I figure we will need him against teams with size that pound the paint, but we need him to be a lot better than he has been thus far.
Koval has been our best center (keep in mind I'm not considering Lakhin as a center, because he has played almost exclusive at the 4) without a doubt, moves very well for his size and can shoot. Biggest concern with Koval is he will probably get pushed around by a bigger guy. Ody has the energy and athleticism, but makes a lot of mistakes trying to do too much. Needs to learn to keep up the energy, while also playing within the system. Between that and his lack of offensive ability, I think Ody needs a year or so to develop before he is more than a 5-10 minutes per night guy.
I'd like to see Lakhin get 5-10 minutes per game at center, combine that with his time at PF and he'd average 20 minutes per game. Also give Koval some more minutes and drop Ody/Ado to the 5-10 minutes per game range. It's only two games though, so perhaps Ado/Ody are better than we've seen. In Miller we trust, at least for now.
