To be fair, it doesn’t take much to move to a better conference.

However, you’re right. They should be taking the high road here given their school’s past voting record on the matter.

I have always liked JMU. They have stuck it out thru thick and thin with us. But I think it’s time for them to say their goodbyes and bow out gracefully. Their concerns are no longer our concerns. So, in this case, it is time to throw the baby out with the wash water. No more time for bickering with those that are moving on. Ladies and Gentlemen, we have bigger fish to fry.

If you have ever read their board or interacted with their fans, there is no such thing as the high road. They have always had a bigger than thou mindset. It just amplified once ODU and VCU left (who had even bigger egos).

We have a NC school like that in ECU. Always see themselves in a better light than anyone else does. JMU has been good in football because they shake down their students for athletic fees higher than anyone in FCS football by far. They will now get to play schools with the same resources every week in football. Outside of football, they really haven't had much success except in their women's sports. They will be missed due to their geography and football, but not much beyond that.

We won't miss them for their football at all.

I liked the CAA better when it wasn't a football sponsoring conference.

True. WE won't, but the CAA football schools will.

People don't seem able to disagree and get along anymore. Life was better when we could.

That being said, I hope the Tribe beats the Dukes next weekend in the final installment for football against them. JMU will then finish the regular season against their rival, Towson.

As far as their over the top reactions, that is life on a message board. They were less than kind hosts to 82' when he posted his reasonable thoughts. I presume that Trask will be charged up for the meeting with the Dukes this winter.

They have some good posters over there, but there are some that see everything thru a purple lens. It is bound to cause some headaches and irrational behavior.

Spot on, sadly it seems to be a majority over there.

Another stupid move on their part. They are not competing in the Sunbelt at all. There are also no other Sunbelt schools posting on their boards there.

Here's my prediction for JMU going forward. They have had a tremendous recruiting advantage against other FCS schools with a budget that dwarfed everyone else and as a result, success beyond other FCS schools. So if you were going FCS, JMU was the place to be. Moving forward, they will be just another FBS school in a mid level conference instead of the top dog in an entire NCAA football classification. Recruits looking at JMU will have a whole lot of options, with many FBS schools all the way up to Alabama. In their own conference, App State and Coastal have already established themselves as top level FBS schools outside the P5 schools.

JMU may actually have an advantage in basketball in a very weak Sunbelt conference with new facilities and a new coach. How ironic would it be if JMU fell back in football relevance and rose in basketball with this move?

RE: JMU unsurprisingly barred from competing for CAA championships upon acceptance t
They absolutely will. I think they under estimate the change it will have. There is little doubt they will compete eventually, but their first few seasons are going to have some sticker shock for their fans, I imagine. Recruiting is definitely a different animal than they deal with currently. A fringe/bench player at G5 can go to JMU and start and win a championship. Now that wont be the case. They will look like any other sunbelt team during recruiting. It wont be as easy as they think it will be.

Sad thing is, I think that part will happen quickly. Sunbelt has not been good in basketball so they should be able to compete for titles immediately there. There is more dead weight in basketball in the SB than there is in the CAA. But good for them if they can raise their program to something other than a doormat. Its been a long time coming for that one. The SB certainly opens that door day 1.

True and false. That conference doesnt seem to post on individual boards. Guessing most schools have their own, like Mason, VCU, Delaware, etc. However their general board is highly active from many schools, whereas our general board is typically dead

Interesting. When the old "CAA Zone" board was alive there was a lot of chatter on the general board. It seemed better laid in such a way as to almost encourage it.
