I'm not surprised about him, I just thought it would happen the year after Whyle left. I expect them both to play on Sundays eventually but I'm hoping one of them decides to come back next year.

Bryan Cook stands out to me as the guy forcing himself into NFL consideration. All he does is make plays.

With the year he's having, i would be shocked if Taylor comes back. You go from having Ridder throwing to you to Prater (with the caveat that Prater's passing is something of an unknown currently). To BearcatMan's point upstream, both Whyle and LT are going to have pro-caliber measurables with good production at various points in their respective careers. This should get them to the next level.

I love Des and his attitude, but I don't see him as the #1 pick or even the 1st QB to go in this draft.

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love it... for him and for UC but I don't see it. I think he's as talented as the others (also thought a couple of our former QBs were up there too) but IMO, the G5 tag and who did he play cards will get played against him. But I love that the national media are talking about him! Go Des!

I feel similarly. I love the guy and obviously am rooting hard for him but he just doesn't strike me as the #1 pick or even a sure-fire 1st rounder if I'm being honest. And it's not about the G5 thing - we saw the BYU (non P5) and ND St. QB both taken in the top 3 overall last year.

Maybe I'm just hung up on some of his earlier struggles even though experience says that doesn't necessarily matter. I mean you look at Burrow not starting at Ohio St. and then being good but not great his first (of two) year at LSU. (Isn't it weird to contemplate how things would have worked out if Burrow had transferred here rather than LSU?)

It's gonna be a fun ride to see how it all ends up this season and into the draft...

I don't know that he will go number 1 but there is absolutely the potential for him to be the first pick / a first rounder. Just last year, Zach Wilson (BYU) and Trey Lance (N. Dakota State) were selected 2nd and 3rd and but for a generational prospect in Lawrence one of them would've been the first guy off the board. In 2020, you had Jordan Love go at 26 to the Packers out of Utah State. Josh Allen got drafted 7th out of Wyoming in 18 (crazy that Lamar Jackson went 32nd to Baltimore. What a whiff by the other teams). Carson Wentz was 2nd in 2016 out of North Dakota STate along with Paxton Lynch from Memphis. Blake Bortles was 3rd overall out of UCF in 15 along with Derek Carr at 36 from Fresno State. I think QB more than any other position is possibly easier for them to see if you have "it" regardless of your competition. They certainly haven't shied away from drafting kids from smaller schools.

RE: 2022 Bearcats NFL Draft Prospects
Pretty good interview with Jim Nagy (Director of the Senior Bowl,) over on BCJ website. (It is free content.)

Some interesting tidbits. Safety is really weak this year among the Senior class. TE, which they normally struggle finding 6 quality guys to invite; Nagy says there is a solid 13 or so guys that they would be happy to invite. With it being a strong TE class, that could impact the decision of someone like Whyle.

I'm not affiliated with BCJ, but any draft nerds should check out the interview-- only 30 minutes or so. The one thing Nagy doesn't discuss is underclassmen, so no comments on Sauce or Whyle-- just the Senior class, so Ridder, Pierce, Cook, Beavers, Myjai etc etc.

RE: 2022 Bearcats NFL Draft Prospects
Just found two sites that gives draft projections:

https://walterfootball.com/draft2022QB.php

This site says that it is updated as of November 2nd. They rank each position separately but do not appear to rank underclassmen:
Des Ridder - 6th rated QB
Alec Pierce - 6th rated WR
Michael Young - 40th rated WR
Myjai Sanders - 21st rated DE and 24th rated 3-4 OLB and 18th rated OLB
Coby Bryant - 16th rated CB

In their 2-round mock draft, they have Sauce going 25th and Pierce going 35th overall.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2022-...ings-more/

There's 3 analysts on this site. Also the "projected round" isn't in line with the number of picks in the NFL draft. There's 32 picks per round and roughly 260 picks in the whole draft (due to compensatory picks). Oddly enough, according to their first analyst, Arizona State has 8 potential 6th round draft picks (take that for what it's worth.

Analyst Tony Pauline
16 - Myjai Sanders - 2nd
57 - Ahmad Gardner - 3rd
107 - Desmond Ridder - 4th
144 - Josh Whyle - 4th-5th
206 - Alec Pierce - 5th
325 - Joel Dublanko - 6th
361 - Bryan Cook - 6th
367 - Coby Bryant - 6th

592 - Michael Young Jr. - FA
774 - Curtis Brooks - FA
826 - Ja'von Hicks - FA
969 - Leonard Taylor - FA
1021 - Marcus Brown - FA
1083 - Malik Vann - FA
1571 - Vincent McConnell - FA

Analyst Ian Cummings
16 - Ahmad Gardner
40 - Myjai Sanders
151 - Coby Bryant
163 - Desmond Ridder
179 - Josh Whyle
212 - Ja'Von Hicks

Analyst Oliver Hodgkinson
19 - Ahmad Gardner
53 - Myjai Sanders
95 - Desmond Ridder
165 - Coby Bryant
183 - Josh Whyle
228 - Malik Vann

He can go if he chooses...I don't think he is in the "likely to declare" category yet.

I disagree - I think he's likely to declare. But, ya never know.

Yeah, RBs with some success are more likely to go than not - they have such a short NFL shelf life.

I was stating that that's likely why he hasn't been ranked. I've been pretty clear from the start of the year that I think he's a one-season guy, and it's the right thing to do...get to that second contract with as little mileage on the legs as he can.

RE: 2022 Bearcats NFL Draft Prospects
Assuming they all go, I think Sauce, Des, Myjai, Pierce, and Whyle are pretty much locks to be drafted. Ultimately I think we'll end up with at least 6 and maybe as many as 8 players drafted. For comparison, the 2021 NFL draft saw only 3 schools with 6 or more draft picks; Alabama with 8, and both Georgia and Ohio State with 6. If anyone ever tries to tell you UC doesn't have the talent to compete in the CFP, tell them they're an idiot.

We're definitely a talented squad but we probably only have 1 or 2 people possibly going in the first 2 rounds and that's Gardener. Those other schools have most going in rounds 1-2 it seems.

With how terrible the QB class is this year it's possible Ridder may slip into the 2nd round, if there's a run on QBs and teams get desperate.

I'm going to preface this with Des is a Bearcat so I hope I'm wrong. Having a QB succeed at the next level would be massive for the program and I'll be pulling for him hard.

Des is a 4 years starter. Using QBR, I know it's not the gold standard but I like it because it uses both passing and running contributions for the QB.

2018: 74th
2019: 82nd (we know that the second half of this season he was battling an injury that probably should have been pulled earlier)
2020: 12th
2021: 42nd

Again this is just one snapshot but I think it tends to be one of the most comprehensive. If you look at the guys who finish in the top 10 they're the guys who are the college football mega stars. I don't have an NFL team but if someone took Ridder with a 2nd day draft pick I'd be irate. He's got good size, athleticism, and intangibles off the charts but he's a 5th year player with a ton of starts; he's more fully developed than most prospects. I think he gets overdrafted because he's going to win the interviews and has good size but I also think after the season when the scouts really get deep into the tape they're going to see some of the flaws that will prevent a first couple round pick. I think he goes 3-4 and should get picked a couple rounds later.

Newly updated top 50 from Brugler in The Athletic:

- Sauce stays at #35 - same as in August
- Ridder joins his top 50 at #41 as the 4th highest QB. Opening quote: "Ridder is an easy quarterback prospect to like, but a tough quarterback prospect to love."

I'd be shocked if Sauce doesn't go top 20. I'm not a draft expert though. It just seems like lock down corners are one of the most coveted things in the NFL, or at least they used to be. I've been playing closer attention to how he is against the run. He doesn't seem to be afraid to jump in there and get a little dirty. Really nice player. One of my all time favorites.

That's the most dead on accurate quote I've ever seen about Des.

Sanders has been playing his way OUT of the first two rounds. He's just not getting it done this year. I've been watching him close the last several games and its not all about being double teamed. He's simply not getting through his man. He's trying to use his superior speed and going around his lineman but more often than not the lineman just swings him so far behind the QB he's not a factor.

I’ve noticed that this season with Sanders as well. He takes himself out of the play so often by getting up field that the QB either just steps up or they run the ball right where he came from.

Pierce is going to be a STEAL for whoever gets him. I feel like he could have the most NFL success for a Bearcat WR in a long time.

I've been watching this year and I think he's pretty good against the run.

Gardner is also pretty big for a CB, even in the NFL. Listed as 6'3" and 200 lbs. The average NFL CB is 5'11" 193 lbs. That's gotta help against the run.

Whyle, 3rd Round if he enters early

I'll eat my hat if Sanders is a first round pick. He certainly has speed and athleticism but that hasn't translated to big time results. As teams have schemed around him a little more this year his production has dropped off dramatically. Maybe my expectations are too high but I've been watching him specifically and he's not disrupting the game like a first round draft pick should.

Myjai's highlight reel might as well be all the times he's been held with refs swallowing their whistles. He's gotten into the backfield plenty and if he got a flag every time he was held, his impact would be both significant and noticeable. The hope is that the scouts/personnel people understand that he's simply not getting the calls he should be getting.

i don't know about first round but i could easily see him being a second day pick. if he goes 3rd day, someone is getting a steal.

A pass rushing specialist with one sack in 9 games. Concerning.
