JMU is scheduled to host championships in women's basketball, women's lacrosse and softball in spring 2022. After over a year of no in-person games, I will be less than thrilled if we lose those three opportunities.

Not on JMU bit the CAA. At some point JMU has to make the decision to move up knowing sports will be effected in the CAA. Cannot suppress the future because some teams cannot compete for a conference championship.

RE: JMU Transition to Sunbelt/FBS/CAA AQs
The precedent and by-laws worried me about this. This was exactly how ODU was treated, our time to have fought this was between then and now.

At this point, making the best of this situation is what we're left with. Perhaps turn in our formal exit after 11/20 when football ends or 11/14 when Men's soccer ends. I will predict the by-laws are re-written - such that UR and W&M can move to another conference in a less impactful manner.

Really unfortunate for the spring sports. I would love for ESPN to pick up the story and make CAA leadership/schools feel the heat of not more effectively working through the nuances in this Covid impacted several seasons. JB and company knew this was coming, creating another weight on them to make sure the opportunity was worth the impact.

The CAA has been instrumental to our athletics rise and JMU has been great for the conference. No reason for JMU to burn any bridges or create rifts with any institutions we now engage with. Foremost, is helping the student athletes impacted by this. Sadly, this move is about football primarily and many of our other outstanding sports will bare the most immediate impacts.

The CAA has been burning that bridge with napalm for the last several years. Flo's contract, the outrageous crap from CAA refs, not to mention the way that the CAA strength of schedule (or absence thereof) has been holding us back in the Olympic sports for years.

If they're going to be that petty and unprofessional, I wish them nothing but agony and failure in the future.

The future for the CAA is in their leadership's hands. I am not wishing ill will. However, as mentioned, CAA leadership/conference participants have chosen cost savings and nominal revenue vs. growth and investment. Once VCU, GMU, and ODU departed - the steps taken to 'preserve' the conference put as the anomaly.

I was just hoping we could preserve the spring sports, with Football/other sports being separate affiliation.

The only way to overturn it is to get the other ADs to vote to overturn, which makes no sense. The chances to get an autobid for everyone else goes up when we're eliminated. Very unfortunate for our players, but this is to be expected.

Small clarification, but it isn't the ADs that made this decision, it is the Presidents/Chancellors/Chief Clowns in Charge of the member universities.

RE: JMU Transition to Sunbelt/FBS/CAA AQs
Does anyone else note how important JMU “was” to the CAA?

JMU’s relation to the CAA “was” similar in importance to Oklahoma’s and Texas’ relation to the vitality of the Big XII, with a similar reaction from the league mates we’ve left behind.

Like the spurned in any relationship, the feelings of the rejected party are raw.

Time to focus on JMU’s bright future and our new relationship with the SBC. Any effort or time spent worrying about our “ex” is misspent.

Amen. This reeks of the same jealousy that OU and Texas are getting from OSU and Baylor from being left behind.03-hissyfit

Quote:For those wondering about the transition time for #JMU FOOTBALL to the Sun Belt:

I'm told JMU will play an "independent" mix of FCS/FBS games in 2022.

As for 2023, that's TBD.

#JMU will, for sure, be a full-time
@SunBelt
football program by 2024. Could be in 2023.

Hopefully part of that schedule will include home mix of FBS games in 2022

I would at least like 1 home FBS game, but I don't expect it to be a big name.

Would love for it to be Marshall.

Let's get started again with ODU next year.

Would we count as FCS for FBS teams next year???

Won't we play a full SB schedule in 2023? Just no championship eligibility

From WaPo...

The JMU football team would not be affected; football in the CAA has a different set of bylaws and, without a conference championship game, the Dukes can still win the regular season championship and get the NCAA’s automatic playoff bid.

He he - I just asked that question above. Wonder if he’s reading the boards to know our questions.

Great news for scheduling. It might be easier to find FBS games than FCS ones given what happened in the Spring season.
