Come to an agreement, y’all?
There is one true black and gold school.
There is one team that plays at the original Rock.
There is one team that is truly the Eagles.
Cool?
I Hope not. I am looking forward to other schools with chips on their shoulder looking for a fight with pride in their bellies. I love y’all but sure look forward to some battles. I hope y’all all come check out our hospitality and food we’ll provide before or after the game. During the game you suckers are on your own. But before and after we can be cool. We like to share food and meet new friends. We I’ve been to games all over and we really do love up to the “hospitality state” motto. But let’s dance first. I’m your huckleberry! SMTTT

RE: Come to an agreement, y’all?
Interestingly, did you know it actually isn’t huckleberry he is saying? It is huckle bearer. A huckle was the handle on the old wood coffins and the bearer was of course the person that carried the coffin. So he was basically saying I’ll put you in the ground. I just recently heard this myself.

“I’m your huckleberry.” Is the rough equivalent of: “I’m the man you’re looking for.”

Great line, Great Movie . . .

huckle bearer is believed to be what the “real” Doc Holiday said . . . But in the movie, Val Kilmer said huckleberry, and it stuck.

RE: Come to an agreement, y’all?
A huckle bear is a medium sized mammal native to the American Southwest. Not an actual bear, it's actually in the badger family. Johnny Ringo was known to have had a pet huckle bear that was either stolen or ran away from his home, and the extremes he went to in order to find it were well known in the area. Thus Doc's cold "I'm your huckle beary" was a way of opening up a wound for Ringo.

If you go back and listen in the movie it sounds as distinct as possible in his accent to be huckle bearer.

It's huckleberry.

Remember in the scene at the beginning where he's playing cards and the guy makes a high bet and he comments, Must be a peach of hand.

In those days peaches were considered like the second best fruit around.

Notice when he says Huckleberry, it's never to any other cowboy but Ringo. That was because huckleberry was slightly better than peaches. So anytime he told Ringo he was his huckleberry, he was saying, you're good, but I'm slightly better.

Settle it with a new trophy game! : "Battle for the Black Rock" : USM-App St. conference games for a new trophy that's literally just a rock/small boulder painted black with a yellow-gold "helmet stripe" going over the rock and both teams' logo on the either side.

But Wait, there's more! - Winner of the game gets their stadium referred to as "The Rock" on official Sun Belt Conference marketing materials and promos until the following matchup.

Is it contrived? Sure, but both teams can make a legit claim to "The Rock" nickname (especially with such similar colors), plus you can play off the old vs. new dynamic (both in terms of App State being in the SBC first, and in Southern Miss being a historic college football power and giant-killer before App State gained that rep).

Easy way to add some juice for a new conference member, and give an otherwise nondescript (both teams have only played twice ever, and once since 2010) conference matchup actual stakes! (Plus some additional synergy opportunities if BlackRock Inc. wanted to get into the college football sponsership game...)

But App already capitulated on the ASU thing. The Rock and the colors won't be given away.

The Rock, being that Boone lies on an exposed lay of rock, is too easy. It's in the mountains for crying out loud. Some of the oldest mountains on planet Earth, next to the Uwharries in Central NC (Asheboro) which once rose to levels of Everest and K2, only to be wiped away by Father Time.

I like Southern Miss. I always knew about Southern Miss growing up, since I was a 90's kid and Brett Favre had just come out of there so they were at peak popularity in the NFL and had quite. Abut of visibility in college.

They keep making demands and that may change.

Well at least it's not us or Appy. Plus, that movie was awesome so this thread wasn't hijacked, it was elevated.

Who is right? Huckle bearer or huckleberry? This can't stay unresolved in my brain.

Both: The Real Doc Holliday said Huckle bearer.

Kilmer: Huckleberry

Movie tried to be as authentic as possible, and Kilmer was supposed to say the same, but it came out huckleberry, and stuck.

. . . Back to the thread .. .

I think it's the most widely debated part of the movie.

Quite honestly, the best is the conversation between Ringo and Holiday in Latin.

Doc Holliday: In vino veritas. (In wine there is truth.)
Johnny Ringo: Age quod agis. (Do what you do.)
Doc Holliday: Credat Judaeus Apella, non ego. (Let Apella the Jew believe, but I don't.)
Johnny Ringo: Juventus stultorum magister. (Action/Experience is the teacher of fools.)
Doc Holliday: In pace requiescat. (Rest in peace.)

I was in Tombstone just last week. I bought a tee shirt that had all the famous lines from movies involving Tombstone.

Huckleberry was used.

Yeah, though in real life Johnny Ringo would of had a tough time spelling Latin . . .

. . . also loved where Ringo pulled his gun, and puts on the “hand display” with it,
Holliday responds with his cup . . . 03-lmfao
